What Does Stannis do for Fun?

Counts his wrongs.

One for the brother who mocked my hawk,

Spurned my friendship and game me a rock.

Two for the brother who laughed at my wife,

He took my rights and I took his life.

Accompanied by the world's smallest violin.

Reads old maps, memorizing troop numbers, imagine he's lord of Storm's End.

violently wanking to thought of having friends

At least in the show he apparently trains his entourage to dismount in a synchronized move.

He looks up the word "fun" at the dictionary

All of these.

Probably sits around on tumblr all day, endlessly reblogging gifs, all while eating ice cream and binge watching Oragne is the New Black.

In slightly more seriousness, I imagine Stannis reads a lot of history and nonfiction. Probably occasionally hunts or hawks, since that's the traditional noble form of recreation. If he was alive in our modern world, I could see him enjoying strategy board games and lots of home-improvement projects.

"I mean to scour that bathtub clean, the way Robert should have done"

Perfect.

But yeah I think reading is one of the only non "duty related" thing Stannis would ever do. And even then he probably sees it as a duty to be knowledgable about Westeros history and current affairs "Joff's a bastard, Cersei's a skank, pass it on". He seems to be very well read (and snarks about Robert's lack of reading to boot)

I actually think he's having some fun ("fun for Stannis-standards") in Theon's TWOW sample chapter, when

he has everything under control and apparently a plan, he has both Greyjoy siblings, trolls the Maester ("Your vows are stronger than your bladder, it would seem", aso.), trolls the Karstarks (He *exaggerated winking* "breaks his fast" *exaggerated winking* with them), he sits just there (Some Karstark: "There are no chairs", Stannis: "There's one... And it's miiine"), reveals betrayal after betrayal, threatens guys with Clayton "Scoop an eye out with a spoon" Suggs, has Massey's and Horpe's clear loyalty, insults Theon as "worse pirate than Salladhor Saan", and cracks one awesome badass line after another. He seems highly confident and stannis-ish amused in this chapter, IMO

Yeah, I've said before actually. Stannis Baratheon is, right now, the happiest he's ever been.

i am always surprised at the disparity of my interpretation of the man that is stan, and everybody else's.

to digress, though not irrelevantly, i have not 'holiday'ed for many a year, hating organized merriment, busy places of idleness, metal tubes full of recycled breath, hot weather, cold weather, drinking alcohol only due to its low price, sleeping in beds so recently slept in my unknown persons of unknown numbers, and many further reasons.

by spending not just the time that would have been spent on holiday, but the time organising, and the funds funding, on improving everyday life, said life morphs into one long holiday.

stannis shows himself to me as a deeply laconic, pragmatic industrialist.

he is amused by his own situation, resigned to his ugly wife, determined to succeed but hardly surprised by failure, just mildly put out that further effort must be expended, that could be used to do something else, something new.

stan knows he is the smartest man in the room, unless davos or mel are around, which is why they are not always there.

fun? stannis is always having fun!

his life is one long holiday!

edit: occasionally watches original Highlander movie, on full volume, drawing lightbringer to co-enact the swordfight scenes.

ps: i'm going to watch Highlander. really loudly. i wish i had a sword.

Agreed, life was one big party to all three Baratheon brothers. Robert enjoyed actual partying and was good at it. Renly enjoyed playing the polician and was good at it. Stannis enjoys the adversity and endeavour, the world being against him while also complaining and saying he doesn't (people like this exist, we all know one) which is why he's actually having more fun than both his brothers combined, I call it anti-fun, Stannis excells at it. His only two downers have been Renly and Edric.
