Lady Blizzardborn
Kate-lyn doesn't make much sense if her nickname is Cat IMHO. Cat as a nickname for Catherine doesn't make much sense from a pronunciation standpoint. Cath, sure, but Cat???
Reginald blackfield
I like that! Think red wine - Redwyne is quite a good name. eta: I started imagining GRRM thinking: Well Tolkien's middle earth has this all-defining River Brandywine. There certainly is something I can do about it...But the Arbor makes arbor gold, not red wine.

Daena the Defiant
I actually think that the name Cersei is kinda lame. It's clearly an allusion to Circe, but as one of the very few allusions to classical mythology in the whole damned saga, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Lady Winter Rose
I don't know if it counts but in the show, when Walder Frey introduces his daughters, one of them is called Freya. That's right. Freya Frey. It doesn't count, but let's talk anyway: It does sound pretty stupid, but I think it would be cool if Martin include character named Freya as some wildling spearwife. It's name I really, really like... But I'm aware this isn't going to happen, even if Martin wish to include such character (he probably doesn't), his editor would tell him to change that. Bloodmane
People would get confused and think Doran's wife ran off with his brother and that Doran is ok with it. It would sound plausible.

Count Balerion
I like most of the Targaryen names, and even the ones from Ghis, from an aesthetic point of view. I'm not so keen on the ones that are almost the same as in English, except that they have a Y or some other weird change. I think the basic problem is that (unlike Tolkien) he doesn't give me the feeling that he's put much effort into giving any kind of linguistic background for names. Part of the general lack of interest in languages, I guess.I think Rhaegar Frey is supposed to be ridiculous: an indication of that family's exaggerated self esteem. Kaminsod
GRRMs tendency to change names like Martin to Martyn, throwing a y in the middle of a name doesn't make it any cooler. The name Pate just irritates me for some illogical reason, don't ask me why, i don't know.
