I'll wait and see what the fallout it is over the next couple of weeks.

I hope there is no fallout, that no one resigns, but my expectation is Trump will make some heads roll.

And on another front, rounded up, the Dow fell 666 points today. :P

I realize that fallout can be unpredictable, but I really think Nunes and his stooges scored an own-goal by actually convincing Trump to approve release of the memo.

They would have been able to drive the narrative much more effectively by continuing to hype the memo but finding an excuse not to release it.

But now both the DOJ and the FBI have Democrats' minority report memo, which WILL end up being either released outright or leaked, which will end up putting Trump's water carriers back on the defensive as they're forced to account for the inaccuracies in their partisan and misleading memo.

The main purpose of the memo was to attempt to discredit the Russian investigation and to lay the groundwork for firing Rosenstein if necessary.  If Mueller continues to press Trump for an in-person interview and/or starts putting pressure on Trump Jr. or Kushner, I think Trump will fire Rosenstein in order to appoint someone that's willing to fire Mueller.  But that would be a last resort.  Obviously, Trump is hoping that he can just sit pat and weather the storm, but it's clear that he's worried enough that he's taking steps to end the investigation.

A  new deputy AG wouldn't necessarily have to fire Mueller. They could simply narrow the scope of the investigation to point that Mueller can no longer get to Trump.

I'm not so sure people are going to see much of a difference.  I read the average cut will be about 1%, and I'm not sure people are going to be running out to vote Republican because they can put an extra half tank of gas in their car every two weeks.

Meanwhile we have all the negative parts like the tax cuts expiring for individuals and being able to write off a jet, but not teaching supplies; with more stories and terrible optics every day.  I just don't see how Republicans could capitalize on it.

Obama's stimulus plan more or less gave average people the same sized tax cuts and not a soul noticed. However, the big difference is Obama didn't go around bragging about it like Trump. It's hard to say if the latter's tactics will get him more support than the former.

I'll use a football analogy since were nearing the Owl. Obama is Ladainian Tomlinson and Trump is Terrell Owens. Both are among the greatest players at their positions, but their behavior couldn't be more different. Tomlinson had possibly the best season for a RB ever, and he went about it quietly, no celebrations and was very low key with the media. Owens might be the biggest "look at me" athlete in the history of sports.  Over the top celebrations, fighting the media, having some laughable press conferences etc. The result was the TO got a lot more attention, even if it was negative. But every sports fan in America knew who he was. Can't say the same about Tomlinson.

The memo failed to live up to all the hype.  Who cares about Carter Page?  I don't think the FBI, DOJ, or Mueller has anything on Page, otherwise he'd be indicted by now along with Flynn, Manafort, Gates, and Papadopoulos.  With Mueller in the process of trying to schedule an interview with Trump, the investigation is likely approaching its conclusion.

The Steele dossier still remains a disappointment.  Has anything of substance from the dossier that wasn't already publicly known been confirmed?  As far as I know, it's generated nothing usable against Trump.  And now it's being used by Trump and his supporters as a way to discredit the Russian investigation.  So far, none of the indictments appears to be relying on anything from the dossier.  We'll see if anyone else is indicted by Mueller, and whether the charges have anything to do with any of the allegations made in the dossier, but I'm doubtful that anything will ever come of the dossier.

If by some chance Page was acting on behalf of the FBI by infiltrating the campaign,  then the Republicans have just outed an intelligence asset.

That's why we should care.

The more I think about it, if they’d managed to give the impression that they were dying to release it but the Democrats were preventing them through legal technicalities, that would have been their best position. People will assume there’s something Dems are afraid gets out, they’re credited with wanting ‘to trust the people and let them decide’ but ultimately sacrificing political gain for Rule of Law, plus no one ever sees how nothing it all was. That was their sweet spot. Kinda pushes a lot of hyper-conservative paranoiac buttons. Who knows, maybe that was the intention and someone overplayed their hand.

It has been reported that Trump has told his friends he is sure it will help him against Mueller.

So, I just remembered that Tom, Bill and Kraft are Trump friends. Which means they can literally think of themselves as the moral straight-shooters, and mean it. Every group needs that one individual who makes the others think of themselves as the good guys.

Not sure how the Democrats' memo, if it ever gets approval from both the House committee and Trump, can effectively rebut the Republican memo if they can't disclose classified information.  To evaluate the accuracy of either memo, we need access to the factual allegations that served as the basis for the FISA warrant applications, but there's no way that we are getting that information from the Democrats' memo.  Republicans and/or the White House would redact all that material out.

I suppose burning them all wouldnt be murder from a certain point of view.  Or consider jace's comment about augustus.  A bunch of you guys are trying to out do either with threats of violence.

I do appreciate though your clarifying that you probably don't actually want them all incinerated.

Still, if Trump were only 10% the monster he's made out to be I'm sure most of the big talking Resistance LARPERs out there would stfu.

Well nice to see the Republican Party find its moral conscience.

Though I truly have to ask where in the hell has it been all these years?

I think we might have a Brigadoon sort of situation here.
