College Football 2019: Rise and Fall of the Transfer Portal QBs

Taggart gone!! Rejoice! Thank you to the rich assholes that donated $20 million to buy his contract out. Imagine writing like a $100K check to something like this? What an insane fucking world.

He reminded me of Kevin Ollie. Always weirdly optimistic and saying the right thing but couldn’t, you know, coach.

There was a Miami fan they showed a few times yesterday during the game wearing a “Keep Willie Taggart” shirt.

That's when you know it's bad.

One article I was reading on the USC vacancy said it won't be Urban Meyer because USC is feeling so scandal-ridden as a whole school right now.  If that's true is there any way FSU gets Urban?  That would be terrifying.

Nice, I hadn’t heard that. I thought USC was the frontrunner. Getting Meyer is obviously the dream scenario right now.

Here's Plaschke on it:  (LA Times, limited clicks)

USC also needs someone with the good sense not to fall into the gory glory trap that is Urban Meyer, and Bohn appears to be that guy.

Wait, what, you thought because of an Ohio connection, Bohn was hired because he could successfully woo Meyer to replace embattled coach Clay Helton? Heck, you even thought Bohn and Meyer were maybe a package deal?

Think again. It’s just the opposite.

The many, many USC boosters who are pushing to hire Meyer, the three-time national championship coach, are understandably delighted to see the Trojans hire an athletic director from Meyer’s alma mater and the school where Meyer’s son Nate plays baseball. And Bohn obviously respects Meyer’s coaching, as he hired current Bearcats coach Luke Fickell from Meyer’s staff.

But Bohn is being hired, in part, because he demands an integrity that is the opposite of the culture created by Meyer, who has a history of fostering criminal players and trivializing domestic violence.

Meyer protected players at Florida throughout multiple arrests for alleged crimes. Meyer then protected receivers coach Zach Smith at Ohio State amid multiple accusations of domestic violence by Smith’s former wife Courtney.

Kentucky fans worst case scenario here is that UK wins enough games to keep Mark Stoops (former FSU d coordinator) in the conversation for second tier of FSU candidates.

We had Notre Dame on the ropes...and let it slip away.  Damnation.  Meaningless game in the ACC, so we started the former 3rd string QB in order to let the 1st string guy rest for another week.  But damn...Notre Dame.

Had a guys road trip this weekend, went to the Michigan Maryland game in Maryland. Nice drive, spent a few hours in DC Friday checking out the monuments, got to see Marine One take off, which explained all the roads blocked leading to the front of the White House and the SS stationed at each entrance w assault rifles. Tailgated before the game, just as many Michigan fans there as Maryland. Nice stadium, good atmosphere and they actually sell beer??? Michigan and Michigan State stadiums don't sell any alcohol so this was a pleasant surprise. Had some damn good fried chicken at a local chain, Pollo Campero(?). Not sure if it was that we were all starved or not but man that was good!

And just like that Clemson is back in top 4, as expected. Nice to see Minnesota beat the fraud that was PSU.

^^^I know Minnesota could be this year's UCF, possibly winning out and be on the outside looking in at the FBS playoffs.

If they won out I think they would have to be in the play off since that would mean they were undefeated and had wins over ranked Iowa and Wisconsin together with #4 PSU and #1 OSU.

Possibly, but what if OSU were to stumble in the B10 playoffs and Minnesota beats a lower ranked team in the B10 championship? Under that scenario I could see the GGophers getting snubbed from the FBS playoffs, at least theoretically.

I thought it was just a Big 10 championship game, not a playoff. With PSU and Michigan at 2 losses each, OSU would have to lose its last two games (to those teams) to miss the championship game.

Okay. I guess your right it's a different format than the basketball championship which is tournament style for B10 championship.

So you guys think that Minnesota would be in if by some fluke they were able to take down the Buckeyes, it's a tall order but it would be such a wonderful, dramatic development to see such a dark horse team get that far.

A Minnesota team that is undefeated would have also beaten penn state, Ohio state and Wisconsin. Any power 5 undefeated team is going to make it in. FSU showed that despite not being very good in 2014.
