Gee, thanks, Larry, for attempting to mansplain my political views to me.

I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative; deal with it. Not everything needs a ton of taxpayer money thrown at it.

Then how are we going to afford to keep having four new studs carrying your litter everywhere you go?

Maybe the last debate had something to do with that.

Our racist president did say something about people with “low IQs” if I’m remembering right.

I lived for several years with a large extended family originally from Mexico that included naturalized citizens, 2nd generation natural born citizens, green card holders, and undocumented immigrants.

Based on my very limited experience, views on immigration among Latinos is far more complex than I would have expected, but all of them know people who have been caught up in immigration court, and they know none of the ones who participated are low-IQ. I heard more disparagement against those who didn't participate, even though that was leavened with a lot of commiseration.

Not saying that's enough to move any needles, but every person who has even been tangentially involved with the immigration process knows he's full of shit.

Quite a few latinx people we've known here for years, but can't vote because they aren't citizens -- but not undocumented either -- are canvassing their own communities vigorously to get the people who are qualified to vote registered and voting.

I believe I read that Bloomberg's money in Florida has been used in part to hire hundreds of laid-off Latinos from the hospitality sector to canvass, as well. Pretty smart approach, IMO. We'll see if it pays dividends.

Anybody here think that adding Justices to the SC is a bad move if Dems somehow capture the presidency and Senate?

Only if the new SC justices are old, decrepit, and right leaning.

I'm actually now more on board with doing it. McConnell recently said that most of the work that the Trump presidency would be undone soon and at least in the next 4 years - but this (referring to Barrett) won't be undone for a generation.

I want to fuck that up, like, in the first 8 weeks. I want to make McConnell see exactly how little his soul was sold for, how useless his efforts ended up being, and how weak his reach actually was.

Just voted early today, was Working FamilIes Party down the ballot (NY has fusion voting), except for Pres where I wrote in Hunter Biden. ***Fingers crossed hoping he wins***

In 2004 I was registered in NY.  Voted for the socialist party for president for shits and giggles.  My roommate at the time was also registered in NY, he wrote in his father.  It was nice being able to have fun with it.  Hunter Biden is pretty good.

I do, for three reasons.

1.  As important as the SC, the power exercised by it is much more interstitial than that of Congress and the Presidency (certainly in combination).   This is our chance to meaningfully reform to our democracy and finally, finally, do something about climate change.  Squandering Biden's political capital on the SC is a political mistake.  It would crowd out a lot more good that could be done.

2. Adding more judges will not alleviate the Republican appointee bias until you get to 13.  That's a lot of new judges and you won't get a majority of Dem senators to sign up for it.  Manchin's already come out against.  Kelly has a senate race in 2022 (assuming he is elected).  Sinema and Tester in 2024.  They won't do it.

3.  A more modest reform would expand the number of circuit court judges and impose a mandatory retirement age of 80 upon al federal judges.  While such a reform is more open to constitutional challenge than court packing (which will  certainly also be challenged and before the same forum), it also addresses the twin vices of judges dying on the bench (Rehnquist, Scalia, Ginsburg) and colluding in their retirement when a friendly administration holds the reins of power.  It thus shifts the federal judiciary towards a more neutral role while also setting up the Dems in the long game to recover the Court.  Thomas and Alito are both in their 70s.  I suspect Breyer will retire in the first year of a Biden administration anyway.

we have several!

re: the court, if Dems don't do it the GOP will.  If Biden wins (either one!)  they should expand to 17+ and make them all 35 year old anarchists.  Then they can ram through as much legislation and case law as possible.  The GOP are even more of craven nihilists than the Dems and will do as much to worse and do it better than Dems can imagine.  If Biden wins, Trump was a dodged bullet.  the next one is coming faster and it's going to be more accurate

I think we are at peak 2020. I was watching CNN - I think it was the Ana Cabrera show - and one of the guests made the point that the Trump campaign is bleeding so badly financially that it is relying on Trump stoking media outrage during his rallies to get free airtime to keep pace with Biden's paid spending.

And everyone nodded sagely - and then they cut to *live footage* of a Pence rally that they just couldn't *believe* he was holding it because so many people in his orbit had tested positive.

Seriously just fuck all of them.
