Lost Season 4 Part Deux

Nah, the giant mutant appendix thing leads to better dialogue:

"You can't kill! YOU'RE PART OF ME!"

Seriously, Gareth Marenghi* could write it. It would be brilliant.

* Fictional horror writer from the Darkplace comedy series, whose greatest work involved a mutant placenta which grew to monstrous size and attacked Bristol.

Nah, this is fun.

Anyway, calling on Planet Sanity, I just watched the video podcast (no audio one until next Friday, apparently). It just shows how mental this show is. Because Alan Dale was pre-booked to appear in Spamalot in the West End, they couldn't get him over to Hawaii to do his scene with Ben, so they flew Michael Emerson, the director and a dozen or so background crew, plus their equipment, all the way around the world to do just a day's work on that one scene.*

*

SPOILER: Lost
Although it is rumoured they picked up a couple of other shots for later eps, and the actress playing Sun was also reported to be around as well.

The other thing to consider is that Alan Dale's English accent is absolutely terrible. I didn't realise he was even aiming for a British accent, and assumed that maybe he was American and his wife was British and Penny was raised in Britain, explaining her accent. This fits in with the fact that there's an American 'arm' of Widmore Industries, specialising in construction, and a British 'arm' specialising in pharmaceuticals (according to Bad Twin, the tie-in book of doubtful canonicity anyway). However, his general awesomeness in the role and his pointlessly shitty treatment of Desmond, which is really funny, means it doesn't really matter.

This won't mean anything to the Americans, but Alan Dale is and always will be Jim Robinson, hard-working, reliable neighbour and father who died of an unfortunate heart attack twenty years ago in the legendary Aussie soap Neighbours (which at one point was attracting audience figures in Britain of more than the entire population of Australia). It's been interesting watching his rise to prominence in the USA (starting with his role as the new colonial governor in the very first episode of Space: Above and Beyond, where he dies after about thirty seconds, and ending with his roles in 24 and Ugly Betty). But last week's episode of Lost was notable as when he stopped being Jim Robinson and became Charles Widmore. Interesting to see who wins this war between him and Ben.

I always thought he was supposed to be American too, until I heard the mish mash of English and Australian in that one episode.

This won't mean anything to the Americans, but Alan Dale ... (snip)

Americans might recognise him as Caleb on the OC. How I know that, I will never divulge :leaving:

Yeah, I'm one of those that believes that Kate was involved with one of two things:

1) Doing something for Sawyer, per his request (probably involving his daughter - wasn't the mother, or the daughter herself, named Noreen? In that case, Kate would have been telling Jack the almost truth as to who she was speaking to/about).

2) Covering her tracks, as she does something for Ben. I believe that this is more likely. Kate has proven herself capable of shadowy procedures, and would probably be adept at succeeding in some of the capers that Ben orchestrates.

The mother is Cassidy and the daughter (I think) is Clementine.

Seeing it as how Hollywood tends to make everybody with foreign accents into 'British' accents, be they a Russian Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October, or a French Patrick Stewart in TNG. He's meant to be British, and most people who live in North America caught on to that, what with the way the guy talked differently.

Very few Americans who watch this show would catch that slip. I sure didn't.

I'm not sure if it was a slip or not. When he woke up he was using his (bad) English accent. As soon as he recognized Ben his accent noticeably changed. Why Widmore would use a fake accent, i have no idea. Maybe it was just a slip up :dunno:

Emo Jack is unbecoming. Dude needs to man up and stop being a paranoid junkie. Sawyer would kick the shit out of him.

Only thing worse is emo Kate. Give me cool as a cucumber Juliette any day. How does she manage such perfect skin on a scorching island?

I don't know, it seemed like they went out of their way with that first scene to show that Jack had no scar. :dunno: If Wert is right, and the whole point was to show Jack's beachcomber spare then I am more worried about the show than I was yesterday.

The guy that Locke was talking to in the previews for next week, was he the same guy that welcome Ben to the island? He seemed familiar.

Or to translate: I don't know. I've seen it suggested that Jack would otherwise have beaten Dan senseless trying to find out what the freighter folk were really up to and they needed to delay that revelation until the finale, so had to knock out Jack for a while. With Sayid off-island and Locke not around, that doesn't really leave anyone else in the beach camp willing to step up and perform interrogation duties.

What about Rose's comment that people on the island don't get sick (you know, excluding pregnant women of course), they get better. Why would the person the Losties rely on most to help get them off the island suddenly get sick right when they're so close to possibly leaving...?

Gotta be honest, that photo is not flattering and suddenly, Jack doesn't look quite as buff as he was supposedly looking...you know, according to some ladies I know who mentioned it...yeah...

I thought the same thing. Jack in a suit, though...

Jin seems to be stepping up to the plate. He threatened Dan to get Charlotte to comply.
