Last night's episode had me laughing a lot more than the previous week.

TANTRUM!!!!!

*tears up pillow and phone book*

Also always good for a laugh or 10 is Robin's Canadianism. Pretty solid episode all around, IMO.

Loved the bringing back of 500 Miles. That song just doesn't get old on this show. Marshall's dancing, also a highlight. :P

As someone who just watched every single episode of this show in the last 2 months, I'm a little confused how eating beef jerky and drinking TANTRUM!!!!! in the Fiero is remotely okay, as there was a "NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE FIERO" rule, but I'll let it slide cuz TANTRUM!!!!! is awesome.

I'm still amazed at all the continuity injokes and gags they keep bringing. It's downright impressive for any show, let alone in a 23 minute sitcom.

As shown, TANTRUM!!!, makes you absolutely insane. I'm sure Ted just made sure Marshall had a couple of cans in him before the road trip started and all rules would go out the window.

Overall it was a very solid episode. Although sadly I'm starting to think that I wouldn't miss Robin if she weren't on the show and Barney is being dragged down a bit. I actually, *gasp*, kind of liked Ted last night and didn't find him annoying. Probably because it had nothing to do with any of his relationships.

In other words, Ted was being Barney-Lite.

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. Maybe this is going to be Ted's new role this season. He doesn't seem to be actively looking for his soulmate at the moment but is enjoying single life (didn't he even say that last episode?).

And it doesn't sound like that bad of a plan. Explore Ted a little when he isn't on his quest for love. We know he gets there.

As to the episode: TANTRUM! That's just awesome. In fact, both stories were great. I'll admit I like when the two different stories overlap a little bit so all the characters are involved. The team isn't as strong when they're split up.

And Barney couldn't have been more right. Canada's just asking to be made fun of. Tim Horton's does have pretty good coffee though. :P

Yeah, I think these first few episodes of this season have shown some surprising trends in character development (or at least how the characters are being portrayed right now).

I'm annoyed as hell with Lily, and I normally love her. I just feel like...I dunno. She's outta control with the wet blanket stuff. I get it, I know how it is to have a friend get married and you grow apart for awhile, and I think that's where they're going with Ted and Marshall (esp. with this episode), but to make Lily practically unlikeable? I'm a little put off by it. I hope it's just a phase.

And Ted...well, he's actually okay so far. My favorite moment of his this season is in last night's episode, when he walks in to the bar, looks around, and starts bouncing up and down chanting "Shrimp Fried Rice!" with a shit-eating grin on his face - hilarious!! I agree with the people saying he's Barney-lite right now, to a certain degree. I think it's more that he's Ted-lite. Not so uptight, not focused on finding "the one." You know what they say. When you stop looking for the one, the one finds you. I think that's what they're going for with him, and it's working.

Good episode. Lily was annoying the crap out me at first, but her TANTRUM! moment totally redeemed her.

(also loved how they listened to the story about the dog again)

I'm having a little trouble buying the Robin/Barney thing when they're on their own. I'm just not seeing the on-screen chemistry. Not sure why though. Could just be the inevitable let down that occurs when a TV couple finally gets together.

Ted as a free spirit is working for me. Solid, believable, and most importantly, pretty funny turn for his character.

Ted's growth from whiny relationship guy to single for now and ok with it guy this season has really brought me back into the show. Ted got so bad for a while that I just couldn't watch it anymore.

I always found Lily the least likable character even when Ted was at his lonely heart's worst. She's the type of sitcom character I despise the most, the one that's portrayed as the most empathetic of the group but is really the most selfish.

At the end of the episode last night I thought the joke was going to be they forgot Lily at a rest stop when she had to go pee again and the whole bit of Marshall having to apologize for leaving her would come back, but the "TANTRUM!" turn was very funny.

  • 2 weeks later...
Bagpipes weren't on the same level of euphamisms as sandwiches, but it still was okay in my book.

Wow, I actually thought they were playing bagpipes.

It's odd that he would hide that when he talks about his and Barney's sexual exploits all the time.

I loved the slap bet. Good stuff.

Wait. Really? C'mon...

Eh. In the spirit of the story, the euphamism is just being played for the humorous bit that it is...

Oooo, tonights episode was the first one I thought was really funny in a while!

Am happy that the whole Barney and Robin thing is over - now when I've seen where it went, I wish it had never happened. This season hasn't really been about anything but them and it wasn't really very funny. (Untill tonight that is)

This episode was awesome, but I think it's been bringing the funny for a few episodes now.

The porn flying into the VCR was inspired.

I know that when the show is going to end, Barney and Robin will get back together. I'm glad he's back in the saddle, though. I wonder if now that Barney is single again Ted's going to start being all Ted again and stop channeling Barney's awesomeness. I hope not. Ted hasn't been nearly as grating this season.

And the running gag with Lily and Marshall stealing porns was great. Also the porn lines in everyday life. Just funny, funny stuff.

Barney in a fat suit and fat makeup? Not so much.

Also can not wait for the Robin Sparkles/Alan Thicke Variety Hour. And Legen --- ds of the Fall was funny as well. We haven't had nearly enough Barneyisms this season.

Solid win of an episode. The whole bit with Marshall and Ted trying to get Lily "out of retirement" was great too. I wasn't bothered by the fat suit, as Future Ted indicated early on that it might have been a little exagerated how they were seeing Barney and Robin. And the porn references were awesome.

I was thoroughly grossed out by the constant overeating, I think. I know Ted said he was exaggerating, I get that - I just didn't think it was that funny.

I just rewatched Sandcastles in the Sand, and I have to say this - Barney and Robin had a crapload of chemistry then. I don't know what happened. I hope it was intentional on the writers' parts, making them try to conform to what everyone else thinks is normal for relationships, only to have that fail and they get back together later on in their own way.

I can get on board with this idea. I mean, the show's essentially about relationships and how they're pursued anyway. This feels like a logical twist in the story.

How the Variety Show is going to play into the Barney musical number for the 100th episode...that's what I want to see...
