Asian Fever II

I'm sure all those complaints about the objectification of women are just made by ugly bitches who need a good deep dicking as well.

Because this alleged objectification is as widespread/serious as the objectification of women? Or can we all just claim objectification in some way, then use the actual objectification of another group to back it up?

You're of course entitled to your personal opinion; but it's not too uncommon to dismiss someone's argument on ground of hypocrisy.

We do it to teabaggers all the time around here.

What hypocrisy?

Nothing you've said here says anything about why one should dismiss Yags argument.

In fact, as you yourself state, the only point you seem to actually make is the same one Tempra does: that the complaint is just because of a personal failing

How delightfully dismissive. I'm sure all those complaints about the objectification of women are just made by ugly bitches who need a good deep dicking as well.

I think if those objectification of women threads started with the OP saying "now let's wait for a bunch of white boys to come in and defend themselves" then you would see similar complaints popping up. This thread was meant to provoke as evidenced by OP's second post in it, which just came out of nowhere.

What, objectification needs to be super widespread and prevalent to be a topic for discussion? What's the cut-off here o master of what gets to be talked about?

Or, you know, we could be not stupid and realise that just because problem A isn't as widespread as problem B doesn't mean problem A isn't a problem or allowed to be discussed.

Except the allegation is that *white people* "objectify" *asian people*. Which is a pretty ridiculous thing to be generalized to the whole, based on one personal ad of dubious authenticity.

Ah, so now you're prejudiced against the sex industry? People in the sex industry shouldn't be allowed to talk about sexual objectification?

What hypocrisy?

That someone who profited from an industry which fetishize/objectify women as sexual objects are now peeved because some people are doing that to a particular ethnic group he/she identified with.

The message isn't the problem here (see Terra's posts), but the messenger is.

Well, the sex industry objectifies women to a far greater degree than "white people" objectify East Asian woman. Perseus and his ilk are very few, compared to the whole, yet the whole sex industry objectifies people. For money, no less.

They could, if they're against the whole sexual objectification practice altogether.

It just ring hollowed though when they only condemn a particular subsection of the objectification/fetish spectrum.

That is, of course, ridiculous. That's like saying that people that sell shoes can't talk about selling shoes unless they're against the objectification of shoes. You're speaking from ignorant stereotypes here, though I suppose that's nothing new. The fact that sex is commodified is neither controversial nor new nor inherently wrong. That's why nobody is out there complaining about Old Spice ads.

The point that I'm trying to make, which you're trying to derail behind tired old "anyone that sells sex is either an abusive pimp or an exploited whore" stereotypes, is that (while there's nothing inherently wrong with having fetishes) there is something really fucking racist/creepy about creepy race fetishes.

And yet, being in the sex industry is different from being a baker or a shoe salesman, no? Unless you're comparing fellow human beings to bread and shoes. In which case, you're objectifying.

It's also pretty racist to generalize one guy to all or most White people. But hey, why not go argue with your colleagues that produce East Asian porn? Seems like they're more at fault than "White people" as a whole.

:ack:

But I'm glad that these threads surface a few times a year, so I can remember why I hate people.

ETA: Actually, seriously, I can't believe that anyone would think that was an appropriate thing to link to here. And then say it was on a funnier note. Yeah, I know I'm a downer, but I find that really triggering and I'm just sitting here upset and fuck you. What an asshole.

yikes! i am glad i didn't click the link. how is this the only comment on it? maybe you were the only one to unfortunately click it :(

It's good then that Yags didn't make that generalization.

It's rather disappointing that the discussion isn't about the post but about the poster, I don't see anyone decrying TPs comments futher upthread regarding the reality or preception of Asian Fever.

That's the way this discussion goes every time.

Someone brings up the issue, and tons of other people fall over themselves to try and paint it as some sort of generalization about all white people or something.

It's like the idea that some people can do something that is bad without that something reflecting on the whole group doesn't occur to them. It's like some hilarious example of the black pot calling the white kettle black.

Lol, you mean something like this?

What? No hordes of whiteboy boarders leaping to his defense like the last yellow fever thread?

Um, you realise that comment is in response to that exact behavior happening in the last thread yes?

And that said comment is in no way like what I was talking about?

I mean, your post doesn't even make sense.
