Superman and Batman: The End of Humor

The Faora fight was pretty good :dunno: The Zod one went too far and was just a pair of blurry ragdolls throwing each other through buildings. As for the tone, if they make it so that Superman uses the destruction and death as his drive to be a better superhero they might undo some of the damage, it just doesn't look like that's going to happen.

The trailers were the best part about MoS.

Always had a soft spot for the Superman Returns teaser. But that was mainly the music which was from the 1978' film.

:agree:

IMHO, if they did a SvB trailer and you heard a bit of the John Williams' Superman score while showing the Superman costume, then a bit of the Danny Elfman/Shirley Walker Batman theme and showing the Bat outfit, it would guarantee a bigger box office showing.

I loved that trailer so much, and that music ('Flight Over Krypton') for me is more evocative of Superman than the main theme (which I don't particularly care for anymore, loved it as a kid). I would have been thrilled if they'd kept just that for Man of Steel, admittedly that was always unlikely.

So much riding on this film. If I don't like it, it seems I'll probably not like the next decade of DC films. How on earth they managed to take my two favourite superheroes and leave me far more excited about Marvel characters I hadn't heard of 5 years ago is quite something. Still can't quite believe BvsS lost a game of chicken to Captain America, can you imagine if you'd have been told that in 2008?

At least everyone's been pretty vocal about the disaster porn, Snyder would have to have been living under a rock not to take that on board.

I watched a Lego DC movie with my son a few weeks back that did exactly that. The Batman scenes were set to Elfman and Superman to Williams. I am 100% confident that movie will be a better Justice League film than this one,

I liked MoS and am cautiously optimistic about this one. All of these super hero movies that are coming out are all on the same level for me though. Decent action flicks, but nothing to write home about. This one seems like it'll be more of the same.

The thing about Man of Steel is that yeah it divided audiences in a way most of the Marvel films don't, but that's partly because it took risks the Marvel films don't. It could easily have ripped off their formula bit it tried to go somewhere more complex.

So while I can see why people who didn't like it and aren't fans of Snyder are pessimistic about this, I think there's a lot of cause for optimism as well. I think it's odd that people are claiming this looks like this or it doesn't look like it'll be doing that when we've, you know, not seen anything apart from a few costumes and a bat-signal yet.

I think what happens in this one is that Superman learns science and realizes our sun isn't actually yellow. It only appears yellow because of our atmosphere. Ergo, he technically should have no power here.

After that, it's sort of like Wile E Coyote stepping on a cliff. He realizes his skills were all phony and Batman easily defeats him with his gadgets.

In terms of attempted relaunches I was always more a fan of Superman Returns don't worry I know I was the only one.

You are not alone. I enjoyed it.

What it had and MoS lacked was hope.

Not sure what the spoiler policy is on the leaked trailer....

Jesus it looks bleeeeeaaaak. Everyone was annoyed by the destruction in MoS, but before that was released, we were all worried that they'd think 'bleak and gritty sells' after Nolan's trilogy and misapply it to Superman. I guess I need to stop thinking of this as a sequel to MoS and more an anomalous outlier that is neither a Batman nor a Superman film.

Given that it seems to be doing exactly what people wanted to and looking at the consequences of the destruction at the end of the first one I'm not surprised it looks dark. It will almost certainly involve an emotional journey in which everyone turns on Superman and then he inspires everyone (including Batman) to a better future at the end. I'm fine with that.

I've never understood this notion that Superman stories can't be bleak. Just coz he's a symbol of hope doesn't mean that stories around him can't be dark. Hell, possibly the very greatest story involving him (Kingdom Come) involves him struggling with his own hopeful nature and it's bleak as shit.
