Worst dialogue yet

The difference is that Darkstar is supposed to be a tool. Gaston & LeFou, however, mean for us to take lines like this seriously. Tyene's supposed to come off as sexy, not stupid. "Bad pussy." Are you kidding me? Am I watching a porno or something? Atrocious.

sadly that line isn't even good enough to put into bad porn...

1. You're missing the point. It's not the register that's a problem, it's what she says. It's bad dialogue.

2. You can keep calling the books pulp, it doesn't make it so. There are chapters that are easily as good as some novels that are considered literary classics. The storytelling itself is better than many literary classics. I've just read Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and Nineteen Eighty-Four for one of my students' literature exam. While all three make more interesting comments on their immediate historical context than ASOIAF does, they are all rather weak from a storytelling point of view - they have unconvincing characters, a rather simple, often unsurprising plot - Martin is the better storyteller. Their writing style isn't by any means better than that of, for example, the Theon chapters. So no, by no literary criteria is it pulp.

This is very subjective I think. I got as far as Quarth in the books before Dragon Tits put me to sleep. The whole Mother of Dragons part of the show always made me lose interest in things entirely, and it didn`t really become interesting to me in any way until Tyrion showed up to improve the dialogue a notch. But the books made it even worse. If I could have my way I`d have GoT without Daenerys and the entire eastern "not Mongolia/not Babylon/not Venice and not Greece" continent. Poorly written, full of lame clichès and bad TV.

I watched Episode 9 again today and I must say that Tyrion's

In my experience, eloquent men are right every bit as often as imbeciles.

was far worse and far more out of place than a bit of bad pussy.

To elaborate - Tyrion's comment was meant to be a counter play to, or outsmarting Hizdar's but it ended up just sounding stupid. And, not only stupid, but it carries with it a deeper meaning that everything everyone says is always bullshit. It's the same as Tyrion's logic about confusing 'what is' with 'what should be' - of course there is a difference fuckwit - one is reality and they other is an ideal. No wonder he has gravitated to team Dany :) but I digress, everytime Tyrion opened his mouth in that scene was worse than bad pussy because bad pussy wasn't meant to be a serious rebuttle, or even a clever rebuttal, it was only meant to be a cute little line by a slightly slutty tease of a character who was having fun toying with Bronn's desire - nothing more. It wasn't meant to be intelligent, or insightful - just playful. And, as playful, it worked better than Tyrion's side of his 'smart' conversation with Hizdar - unless they were trying to make Tyrion seem stupid?

Fat Pink Mast are the words of a boy who is having sex for the first time and it's very much a foreigner about his own body. He has never seen his own penis "acting" in that way with a woman.

Reread Arys' chapter when he's with Arianne. She pretty much tells him the same Tyene tries (and fails) to say but she's waaaaaaaaaaay classier about it.

Bad Pussy are just the words of a slightly slutty girl who is trying to be a tease and control a horny guy with her sexuality for probably the second or third time. She's not really as mature or dangerous as the line she is using and probably has a pussy and sexuality every bit as soft and pretty as her prior episode boobies. Show Tyene is not the bad-ass she thinks she is - that's the point.

Yes, Arianne was more classy but undoubtedly also more mature and experienced. Classy can be one type of sexy, cute, immature and eagre can be another.

Slate ran a column claiming GoT was at it's best when it strayed from the books.

No.

On the initial viewing the show IS at it's best when it strays from the books, IMO. The less I know about what is going to happen next in the show, the more interested I'll be in watching it. On re-watches the order on what's better might change as the anticipation for "what's going to happen next?" is gone and you're judging it solely based on the quality. Even then I might say that some of the stuff in the show is better than in the books. Personally I found Dorne in the books to be extremely boring. The only character I found even remotely interesting was Darkstar. In the show, although the Dorne plot line was mostly pointless, I found it far more interesting than the book equivalent.

The interaction with Bronn and Tyene isthis episode has go to be some of the worst in GoTs yet.

Genuinely hate this fabricated attraction. Dorne is such a painful betrayal of some great chapters in the books, and these moments are the worst of the worst

I agree it stood out as bad and didn't add anything to the scene, I'm surprised it made past the final edit. But the same can be said of most of the Dorne stuff.

Sex is messy, and GRRM is a writer who is know for his realistic and messy portrayal of things. There are no heroic deaths in his books as much as people shitting themselves after dying, which happens more often than many would believe. We have Dany having diarrhea in her most important chapter because she gets sick drinking filthy water. Why would his sex scenes be different? He doesn't romanticise things like many other authors do and I've find my peace about him in that aspect.

Which would be an excellent point if he was doing it on purpose. But they're just way too awkward for that. The scenes are terrible because he can't write sex scenes. Which is completely fine; nobody is good at everything.

Bad pussy would have been better put into a Jon-Sam bro dialog :

Sam - Gilly is a good woman but I don't want to betray our vows.

Jon - You think you want to respect your vows but you need the bad pussy.

Sam - But shouldn't you be against vows breaking, as Lord Commander ?

Jon - I'm from the north, I don't remember.

I love Arys' chapter in Feast, because Arianne's an actual confident, sexy character. Show!Tyene, I don't even know what to make of her. The slap game was possibly the worst thing I've seen on TV, so there's that.

Agree completely. The only thing that shocked me as much as the jail scene - how's your arm/i poisoned you/do u like my boobs?/here's the anitdote - was the hothands scene.

That scene was horrible. The focal point of that scene was to show that they have antidotes for their poisons. Instead, they turned the scene into nothing by a boob-fest for no reason at all. I mean, yes, she's got pretty boobs, but they had no place in that scene and it was rather pointless. It ruined it.
