He's undoubtedly just playing to the crowd and cannot do many of the things he says. Do you think that there is any chance of him building a wall on the southern border and having Mexico pay for it?

Do you think it matters in the least bit whether he actually manages to succeed, or not, when it comes to electing him as a President? None of us will know if any of the candidates can make real the campaign promises - Obama didn't close Gitmo, for instance, and he's less than stellar in open government and transparency. It is a bill of promise and a window into the governing philosophy of the candidate. In that regard, the fact that there are no practical way for Trump to build a wall on the southern border and have Mexico pay for it is immaterial.

scenario is grand army of the republic makes amphibious landing at veracruz and lays siege thereto; naval blockade of baja with occupation of cities thereupon; army units drive deep across the rio grande to invest monterrey and chihuahua; simultaneous landings in yucatan; all forces drive on mexico city, once there, nuclear threats and lancet-like public executions coerce second treaty of guadalupe hidalgo, wherein it is agreed that mexico pays for trump's construction company to build the wall and for trump's newly formed firm, Deportation LLC, to go door-to-door looking for unlawful aliens.

I've started seeing a few Evan McMullin web ads; which is a greater display of funding and organizational skill than I expected.

Doesn't mean much of course, but I haven't seen any Gary Johnson web ads; and only a couple Jill Stein ones. Tons of Clinton and Trump ones.

ETA: It seems that he's gone with "Its never too late to do the right thing" as his official campaign slogan. Inspiring.

It's not whether he succeeds. It's whether he tries: how much damage his attempts do: and what he settles on as a compromise (or sop) to the people he made this promise to.

Manifest Destiny 2: The Trumpening

(movie trailer voice-over)

"Last time, we took Texas. (shows explosions and Alamo and explosions) This time.... WE TAKE EVERYTHING. (shows rippling majestic American flag with bold eagle landing on the flag pole). The Wall of Trump: coming to movie theater in Thanksgiving 2016. This film is not yet rated."

It's going to be bigger than 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Probably the simplest thing he can do is ban sending money back to home countries until wall is paid for. This has already been threatened and would likely cause Mexico to capitulate. Would ruin relations, but it could b3 done and done without any Congress approval.

i love that this policy proposal relies upon non-existent 31 CFR 130.121 for an unobtainable objective.

Hells yes. Anyone who has an issue with taco trucks hasn't eaten at a taco truck. They kick fast food's ass, 9 times out of ten. The good ones are like a taqueria on wheels. If you can't get behind that, you're unamerican as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree. If the campaign promises are things which are obviously unfeasible, they're not a window into the governing philosophy, they're just demagoguery or entertainment.

In any case, none of this will matter all that much. If there is no October surprise, Clinton will probably win: the polls oscillate with time, but even at worst she was tied with Trump and at best she was up by double digits. If there is an October surprise (courtesy of Wikileaks), her odds of losing increase pretty dramatically.
