It's still an absolutely weird thing to say.

It may be in poor taste but the joke/lamentation is pretty standard.  "Why are all these great people/actors dead and this shitty one still alive?!?"

Weird name to pick because even if you consider him a bad actor which is not a common take I suspect even people who don't enjoy his acting don't tend to dislike him.

Making fun of Reeves' acting was a pretty common thing back in the day.  Less so now, but definitely back in the 90s and even the aughts (i.e. post-Matrix).

Both are Canadian. Another strike against both.

It's pretty obvious he was joking and he's already apologized:  “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu,” he said. “I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”

Lol You’ve seen damage control before DMC, it’s hard to believe you’d think that’s a sincere apology. He wrote a memoir that’s about to be launched where he twice mentions Keanu Reeves still walking among us. I’ve read the context too. A moronic thing to say if I ever saw one. No one really needs to know someone else’s moronic thoughts. But he needs to sell that memoir so there’s that.

I think the apology is sincere inasmuch as he clearly didn't have any malicious intent towards Reeves.  I also suspect he doesn't give a shit about the internet whining about a joke, true.  And I don't know why people keep emphasizing he "said it twice."  That was the entire point - the second mention was a callback to the first.

I believe it has to do with apologizing for making a mistake instead of having something against someone.
One generally realizes the mistake and doesn’t do it / or tries not to do it again. Making the same mistake twice is not unusual (I can hear you say it!) That’s true but when you have a grudge or don’t like something/ someone one tends to be consistent with the mocking or belittling. So more likely to do it twice. That is why I mentioned it myself.

His apology is pretty clear - he chose a random name for the joke.  The joke includes both mentions.  It's not "making the same mistake twice."

That’s what you think. Because you believe (sort of) the apology. It’s different when you think he’s lying about it (as I do)

Yes, I think it was a joke and he doesn't actually want Keanu Reeves dead nor holds a "grudge" against him.  Because that's obvious.

Oh, was he wishing Keanu was dead? I haven’t read that. I thought in the original quote he was just regretting his friends “super talented”, “original thinkers”, “geniuses” passed, while implied “untalented shitty” actor is still around.

To which he apologized saying he is a big fan of untalented shitty actor. He didn’t apologize for wanting him dead or anything because that wasn’t really the point in the end. At least I haven’t read that.

The lie in the apology is not about wishing someone death. You are too strict when you read his apology comments. I doubt many actually believed he wished harm to Keanu. Most I’ve seen thought he was weird

He should have just said it was a joke that he thought was awesome and it turned out not many enjoyed it. Because he’s shit at jokes. I know, I’ve seen him without a script.

he should NOT have said he’s a “big fan” and it was “a mistake” because he picked a random name. That  what he said in his apology. Nothing about wishing Keanu dead being a mistake because that wasn’t really the insult and mocking I was talking about.

And I do think that apology is a lie and a damage control thing.

You on the other hand combine the horrible joke quotes and the apology and because of you, DMC, here we are writing wall of texts about it in the small, irrelevant shit thread because you cannot be bothered to separate the two! And we are boring everyone too I bet.

I hope you’re happy with yourself. I know I am!
