Is it possible I spied George Santos exiting from the Atelier Beauté Chanel at one of my nabe's corners yesterday afternoon?  The shortish guy was wearing a ... bowtie, those thick black frame glasses, jacket looking too tight across his tum, and pants ditto across his bum.

But isn't Congress back in session as of yesterday after Thanksgiving holiday? And wouldn't he then be about the People's Biz?  Checking the Congressional Calendar -- not back in session until today.  Hmmmm.

Probably not. He isn't short. Idk what his actual height is, but he's usually taller than most people around him.

Just to follow up on something that was posted earlier. A couple dying in a crash on the way to a casino was turned into fear fodder by the Fox News spin cycle:

https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/23/us/us-canada-border-rainbow-bridge-explosion-thursday/index.html

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/rainbow-bridge-niagara-falls-closed-explosion-vehicle-reportedly-enter-rcna126397

This may be a minor point, but the article you linked to clearly states the car was driving AWAY from the casino, not "on the way to" it.  I suppose one of the things investigators will be looking in to is how much alcohol the driver drank while he was at the casino.

Ah, I misread that.  I coded it as "KISS concert fail, on to the casino," but you're right.

‘It should never have happened’: death of boy, 16, at sawmill highlights rise of child labour in US

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2023/nov/28/it-should-never-have-happened-death-of-boy-16-at-sawmill-highlights-rise-of-child-labour-in-us

Michael Schuls died after getting trapped in dangerous machinery at a mill in Wisconsin. But across the US conservative groups are pushing to loosen laws that protect children in the workplace

Quote

According to a Florence County sheriff’s office report, when the conveyor machine became jammed Michael stepped on to it to try to straighten the wood, but he had not pressed a safety button to turn it off. The conveyor started to move and he became caught in the machine. The teenager was trapped for 17 minutes before a supervisor, who had been operating a forklift outside, discovered him unconscious.

Ah, it's the big bum that makes him look squat then.  Though he has been doing a LOT of body sculpting, lip filler, etc, which began during his second campaign.

Yeah, I think that's the whole point. I imagine the Koch brother and some of his tycoon buddies had actual grandfathers that fed kids to the machinery in those mills. It's all about making America Great Again.

Well, I see everyone was at Roslyn Carter’s funeral today (in terms of former presidents and First Ladies) except for the Trumps.

Do you think they weren’t invited or they turned down the invitation?

I'm guessing it was a wee bit awkward for Mel to be standing there next to Hillary, Kamala, Jill, Michelle?

Melania Trump was there, and George W. Bush and Barack Obama were not unless they were hiding somewhere. Of course Donald wasn't there, either. Also, that's Rosalynn Carter, and she pronounced her first name with a "long O", like it was "Rosa Lynn", though a whole lot of TV reporters never seem to have learned that properly. :)

I guess when I heard “all” in the background as the CNN broadcast played they were referring to the fact that all the former first ladies attended.

I’m surprised Barack Obama wasn’t there.

eta I also caught “except Trump” and assumed that meant both of them.

The reason President Obama wasn't among those at First Lady Carter's funeral is a prior engagement, which, anyone who thought about it for a second, would just assume, right?

State courts in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere have so far declined to rule in favor of challenges asserting that Donald Trump should be disqualified from holding the presidency again under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. (Cases in Michigan and Colorado have been appealed.)

Challengers assert that Mr. Trump is barred because, as stated in Section 3, he was an officer of the United States who, after taking an oath to support the Constitution, “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the country, or gave “aid or comfort to the enemies thereof,” before and during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

Mr. Trump and his campaign have called this claim an “absurd conspiracy theory” and efforts to bar him “election interference.” Some election officials and legal scholars — many of them otherwise opposed to the former president — have also been critical of the efforts.

The Georgia secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, writes that invoking Section 3 “is merely the newest way of attempting to short-circuit the ballot box.” Michael McConnell, a former judge and professor at Stanford Law School, claims that keeping Mr. Trump off the ballot on grounds that are “debatable at best is not something that will be regarded as legitimate.”
