Well shit, just a few minutes ago I went to go wish one of my stepbrothers goodbye and when I come back the Packers blew it after a late TD and now the Dolphins did too? That's fucking hilarious.

After the controversy last night, I was watching for whether people line up offsides on MNF.  The answer is yes, they do it all the time.  Defensive linemen and wide receivers are in the neutral zone at the snap quite regularly.  I understand that you aren't going to throw the flag all the time, and most of the time a warning is just fine.  But that calls into question why Toney was called on that particular play without being given a warning.

All in all, it's just really unfortunate that an all time great play was nullified because of something that basically didn't matter.  And it's not like a TD there would have handed the game to KC.  I felt like Buffalo had a very realistic chance of driving down the field for another epic finish.  But instead, one of the craziest touchdowns I've ever seen was taken off the board and we got...the opposite of a great finish.

The "basically didn't matter" aspect is what's frustrating. So often we see incredible plays made by both the offense and defense that get called back because of some ticky tack shit that had zero influence on the result.

That's true, but rarely so obviously as this.  Even a ticky tack holding call can be the difference between a sack and touchdown.  Illegal motion can confuse the defense and give up a big play, and thus it needs to be called.  But offensive offsides just isn't that important.  Obviously you need the rule - you cannot have receivers line up 5 yards down the field.  But the advantage gained from being 6 inches further forward is minimal in the extreme.

And I mean, he was offsides.  There's no question that the ref made the correct call by the book.  But standard practice is to give a warning except in the most egregious cases, and this does not qualify.  Last night i saw receivers on both Tennessee and Miami lining up equally far forward without it getting called.

It happens all the time, sure. But Toney didn't check with the ref and Mahomes and Reid have since said as much. It sucks and I wish they had let it slide, but it is what it is.

I was glad it was called since my main competitor in Fantasy has Kelce, but I would have liked to have seen how they scored it in fantasy.  I guess receiving yards for Kelce and then rushing yards and TD for Toney?  I cant remember if a backward pass past the scrimmage line counts as a pass or a rush.

I am willing to entertain the notion that it could be because Brandon Staley is an idiot and has no business coaching an NFL team without a PS5 controller in his hand.

Bears repeating.

Could a second AFC west team give up 70 points this season?!!?

I almost want to turn this miserable thing on. They're at 56 with a quarter left.

Also, Easton Stick is totally a porn star's name.

Staley AND GM Tom Telesco both get the boot

Quote

LOS ANGELES -- After 2½ seasons highlighted by lofty expectations and routine letdowns, the Los Angeles Chargers have fired coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, the team announced Friday.

Staley is the second Chargers head coach to be fired midseason since 1970, joining Kevin Gilbride, who was fired in 1998.

The Chargers are an absolute embarrassment.  Herbert is either a good or a very good quarterback, and he was on a rookie deal.  That is a golden opportunity to win a Super Bowl, and not only did they fail to do that, they only made the playoffs once - last year's wild card collapse against JAX.

Winning in the NFL is hard, but winning in the NFL if you have a top 10 (possibly top 5) quarterback on a rookie deal is actually not that hard.  You have more non-qb money than any of the other contenders, and all you need to do is be as good as them and your QB will do the rest.  I'm not talking about winning the Owl (that takes a bit more competence), but being a 11-12 win team each year is very doable.

And instead, when Herbert is out, they lose by six touchdowns to one of the worst teams in the league.
