The Legend Begins...

It kills me how they've made Richard into this heroic selfless do-gooder, too. Contrary to Tairy's Real Human Themes and certain fans' predictions, the general public do not consider a true hero to be some Objectivist arsehole who only helps people if a) they deserve it and b) there's something in it for him; they clearly prefer the standard definition, where the hero helps the weak and powerless, rather than grinding their faces in the dirt while making speeches about how they should have got on their bikes and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, etc etc.

No Violet, no Samuel, no nambles. I think we can confidently expect a reduction in the number of almost-rapes and the death toll of peace protestors, too.

Well, we're how many episodes in and there's not been a single almost-rape? That doesn't bode well for a proper book to screen ratio... :P
Nah I found em at another Sword of Truth Forum.

There's been a lot of fans getting pretty upset at the way they are making this show. Supposedly Terry thought Sam Raimi was going to have a bigger role in the production, but Disney said no to that. Also, the way for these writers to make money is by adding new things to source material, so everytime there's a new story line that is nothing from the book, I guess the writers make more money. What a bunch of bullshit lol. First book was fine, wish I could see it on TV... meh
The first book was shit, so *cheers!* this is exactely what SoT needed :)

Over at TG.net they were talking about how Disney bought all the rights, and were bemoaning how Tairy "may never write another SoT book." C'mon people, if true this is celebration time!*

*...that said, I believe nothing I read at TG.net, so...

How could anyone believe that a marriage of the Yeard's objectivist ubermensch saga and Disney would ever yield anything remotely making sense?

Well, the person I'm currently watching Dr. Who on DVD with while I do my evening elliptical biking was otherwise engaged last night, so I watched Legend of the Seeker just to see what this was all about. I've never read the books, although I almost want to just to be able to be in on all the discussion about them. As for this episode, it wasn't anything great, but other than a few things, it didn't seem as bad as a lot of people are saying.

I guess the gang was going to some cursed, ruined city place and some big important bad guy was going to be there and they wanted to confess him to learn where that Rahl guy is. But someone has a vision of the Seeker getting killed there, so she makes Richard look like this other guy and that guy look like Richard and off they go.

I like that their wedding ceremony involves bondage, although from the things I've read on here, I was expecting Richard to go through with consumating the relationship instead of just running off with her.

It was kind of annoying that they fight the big bad, but just as they beat him, the other soldiers come in and basically go, "Oh, Big Bad, stop fooling around and let's go" and just leave Richard and gang in their command tent. The good guys can't keep fighting them? Why not? If they're out numbered, shouldn't the bad guys finish them off. I take it they know that the Seeker is there and it would be a good thing for them to kill him, so why don't they? Just odd with no reason I could see for the confrontation to just end like that.

And Gryff is a stupid name. In fact, most of the names I've seen from SoT/LotS seem pretty sub-par.

God. Less than halfway into the first episode and I can't go on. I don't know how the rest of you watch this. It's like any redeeming value that may have been in the books has been taken away.

Oh. My. God.

I have the flu... so i've been crazy board surfing, and I had nothing to do so I watched the pilot. It's like watching Beastmaster... only no one is good looking and there are no cool animals. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????? It's not 1991 people. If you want to adapt fantasy you have to put some effort into it. The acting is awful, the characters are somehow more one dimensional than in the book series, and it DRAGS ON FOREVER. Who is overseeing this?

Even Pirates the Porno with all the sex removed is better than this.

Sounds good....
It is the first porno I skipped all of the sex scenes the first time through because it was distracting me from the story.

The Power Tool massacre was the second.
White guy in the woods with hot native american chick: "I shouldn't have sex with you."
Hot native american chick: "I'm tired of you white men and your reservations."

Sounds like 2 great movies. Its always hard to find a nice porn movie with a good story. I should know. I search for them all the time.

Good story? Not exactly. Funny enough? No doubt.

Plus, they're re-watchable 'cause, ya know, there's lots of sex.

Another line from PTM: "And she got off scot free." Bimbo character: "Who's Scott Free?"
So yeah..i watched (first 5 min?) of the first episode. Other than hot Kahlan and the nice boundary CGI, it was pretty dull. And i am one of those who actually don't hate the first SoT book =/

Does it get any better in the next few eps?
No, it gets even more boring and predictible.

But, once Denna shows up I might watch, because it sounds like there will finally be some torture. :wideeyed:

Not only does it not get better, but they undermine the premise of the next book. Richard takes a little boy who can read minds to the sisters in the old world... it was a 3 day ride from wherever he was. So he knows who they are and they know him and all that jazz-- how the hell are they going to work that into them kidnapping him and dragging him to the old world in season 2? Answer: there is no way in hell they get a season 2.

So weird. And the acting is comically bad. It's like if the shopkeeper Resident Evil and Navi got into some kind of loop "Hey Listen! Wanna Buy Something? Hey Listen!" and then the Tick came along and started hamming it up all over the screen. "Spooooooooooooooooooooon!"

Actually-- that sounds kind of awesome... so nothing like the Seeker.

Alright, so I read somewhere (maybe somewhere on this forum) that the Seeker series is drawing a regular 3 million plus viewers, which, fortunately or unfortunately, may just be enough to get by. I don't know much about the TV industry though, esp syndicated shows, so does this mean the show will go on?

Question: who is watching this? A subset of Goodkind fans who will put up with the bastardization of the story and message in order to see characters named Klan and Richard in vaguely correct costumes? Or is it really the people who used to watch all the cheesy old syndicated shows from 10 years ago (Hercules, Zena, and their many spawn) who miss them terribly?

Well, I guess there is a 3rd option, the people who watch just to make fun of it. I didn't think we were that many though.
So I only see 7 episodes on hulu.com. Is there somewhere else where the last few that have aired are available?
The last new episode aired on 12/06/2008. The next new one (Denna) isn't out until 1/10/2009. 7 episodes is all there is, for now.

I'll most likely keep watching. It's painful, but I can't take my eyes off of the trainwreck....

Funny, and I was all excited about this airing at first. Well that went downhill after the first 5 minutes of the show :bang:

Actually...it's kind of interesting to see how they can screw things up. I've thought to myself a few times, "well they can't possibly get THIS part wrong." I underestimated them!
