Ken Stone
Out of curiosity, anybody know the line on the Penn fight? All six of ESPN's "experts" (Jon Anik and his merry men) picked Fitch; is Penn that much of a dog here?Penn has been beaten by wrestlers, and Fitch has never been stopped. I got Fitch. I'm also taking Jorge over Bisping.
GSP
Just saw the weigh in highlights.Wow, is Fitch ever a hell of a lot bigger than bj! I got Fitch.
Grayscale
Fitch has never been stopped.Actually he has been stopped in 2 of his 3 losses, granted they were very early in his career. Basically the longer this fight goes, the more it favors Fitch. The smart money is on Fitch via decision.
Horus Ex Machina
Looking at the matchups here, BJ is probably more well-rounded overall, but his biggest weaknesses play heavily into Fitch's gameplan. It's a bit strange bc I usually tend to favor the fighter who has more avenues to finish the other, unless we're talking about a wrestler who's very difficult to finish in a three round fight. And BJ isn't a knockout artist. He can outbox Fitch but he probably won't finish him on the feet. So unless his takedown defense is very very good, he's going to spend alot of time on his back. Now I don't see Fitch finishing Penn at all, but I can see him doing enough to win a UD. I'm rooting for Penn, but I'd lean slightly to Fitch unless Penn manages to take Fitch's back in a scramble. GSP
Holy freakin takedown defence Siver!Peronally thought that Chinese fighter should have gotten sub of the night.Pretty good card.Bj was refreshingly honest for a fighter who got lucky with the judges. Kudos.
Commodore
Holy freakin takedown defence Siver! He was hopping around the cage on one leg and punching Sotiropolous in the face while the Aussie was trying to take him down.I am officially on the Siver bandwagon, his kicks are fun to watch. Analu
If two judges scored it 28-28, then I'm thinking they gave BJ the first two rounds, then gave Fitch a 10-8 on the last round. In which case, all BJ had to do was not get dominated in the 3rd round to win. Oh well. If people think he got lucky with the scorecards, then all I can say is that it's about time. He's been on the shortend of so many questionable decisions in the past. About time it worked for him for a change. Anyways, good fight. I couldn't believe BJ got those takedowns on Fitch. And the line on the Fitch-Penn fight was pretty consistently around -200 for Fitch. That's how it was on betus, beted, sportsbook and bodog all the way up until the last couple days, where it was -210 or -215. My local bookie had him at -185, since of course guys here in Hawaii are going to bet on BJ.
GSP
I had Fitch winning one of the first two rounds (can't remember which) but could totally see how a judge may have given both to Penn and then given Fitch a 10-8 in the last ending up in a draw. Crappy situation but a totally logical explanation. It wasn't the decision I would have gone with but it isn't one of those blantant, what kind of crack were the judge's smoking, robberies that we've seen.People are still busting on Fitch as a leg humping lay n prayer. That wasn't lay n pray. That was a meatgrinder, and I'm sure Penn would tell you about the difference. I thought the fight was going to end up finished and I'm sure the ref thought about it a time or two. If there was another round, you never know.Siver's takedown defence was reminiscent of Penn's. I was very impressed with it even before the broadcast crew started going on about it. Siver looked just awesome, and most people were writing him off against Sots. He's clearly rounding out his game quickly.
Mme Erzulie
So, this was on at 3 am for me, so I didn't catch it. Is there anywhere I can watch this UFC (and/or others) online or elsewhere?
HODOR! HODOR!!
I had BJ winning the first two rounds and Fitch clearly winning the 3rd. The interesting part is if you score the 3rd round as 10-8 or 10-9. Fitch definitely dominated but he was never close to finishing the fight and never tried to advance his position on a clearly gassed fighter. There have been rounds which were way worse than that and have been scored 10-9. I can see the case for 10-8 though since BJ didnt almost nothing that entire round. I'm still on the fence as to how the third round should have been scored but I think we can all agree there needs to be some fucking consistency in how rounds are scored. Stego
I am embarrassed to admit that I loved Bisping's rant after kicking ass. At least someone finally meant the shit they were talking. He fucking SPIT on Rivera's coach. He told Rivera (who was still seeing stars) to "go home, loser!"I feel like less of a human being for liking that shit, but like it I did. I was emo that Sotiropolous lost. Australia deserves an MMA hero too.
BLU-RAY
Re: 10-9 vs 10-8, apparently Fitch outlanded BJ in that round something like 134 to... ZERO. I can kind of buy 10-8.Re: Bisping... wasn't Rivera talking a ton of shit pre-fight to get in Bisping's head? I'm of the opinion that trash talk is petty, childish, and all-around douchebaggery, but if someone else starts up shit-talking you, I actually kind of approve of what Bisping did. Granted, I did not see/hear much of the prefight buildup, so I only heard about some sort of video that Rivera apparently made, but I dunno what the content or the goal was. If there was another round, you never know.Fitch is a beast and his sub D is amazing (I've never seen BJ take the back of an opponent twice and not finish it). But what frustrates me about him is his unwillingness to take chances and try to finish his opponent. I understand he does what he has to do to win and hates to give up top position or whatever advantageous position he has, but there's a definite reason why he's not a fan favorite. And yeah, BJ's been doing the hopping on one leg and hitting his opponent while defending TD thing for a long time. At least 7 or 8 years. I don't remember if he's the first to do it, though. So, this was on at 3 am for me, so I didn't catch it. Is there anywhere I can watch this UFC (and/or others) online or elsewhere?I'm dismayed that you're asking for illegal material to be displayed on here. It shouldn't be too hard to find those fights elsewhere. ps + .comImpressive win by Bisping. Personally, I can't stand him, but according to my English coworker, it's because I don't understand English humor. I don't buy it. I think Gervais is pretty funny sometimes. Especially when he's roasting celebs.
Horus Ex Machina
So, this was on at 3 am for me, so I didn't catch it. Is there anywhere I can watch this UFC (and/or others) online or elsewhere? All you have to do is run a google search for the full fight. Within 5 to 10 minutes you'll find what you need. That's the most that I'll post about illegal clips here. Probably wouldn't be a good idea if we had mods that paid more attention to what we write here, but I'd rather not get this forum in any trouble. Stego
If you did not tell them it was illegal, I bet they wouldn't know. :DAnyway, Horus, Fitch would have lost the fight after getting his back taken if he wasn't twice as strong as BJ. Proving, imo, my assertion that all things being even close to even, strength wins. BJ should stay in the weight class he belongs in.
Mme Erzulie
Ok, so ESPN (which I'm paying for! Legal! Huzzah!) showed UFC 127 on a rerun yesterday. And I've got a few rookie questions. To me, the most impressive and entertaining fight they showed was the Ebersole - Lytle, but none of you seem to have found it worthy of mention. I thought the Ebersole dude looked unorthodox, unafraid and unpredictable. I understand it was his first fight, but was there some blatant reason why this wasn't a notable win?The Bisping - Rivera fight: To me, it looked like that illegal knee in the first round won Bisping the match. How can he take any pride in a victory achieved through illegal means? Rivera looked like he couldn't see or walk straight after taking that blow to the head. And why did it only result in a one point deduction, and not a DQ?How good did this Siver guy look to y'all? To me he looked like someone with explosive and very quick hands and feet, and a good takedown defense.P.S. Just because something is online, doesn't necessarily mean it's illegal, right? Knights after booze or thespians should watch this space annually, because love understands.
Ken Stone
Anyway, Horus, Fitch would have lost the fight after getting his back taken if he wasn't twice as strong as BJ. Proving, imo, my assertion that all things being even close to even, strength wins. So we spent 3 pages arguing about the importance of strength and size in MMA, and then when it comes time to pick the fights the guy who argues that strength and size are uber important picks the small and weaker guy to win, and the guys who were arguing that size and strength isn't that important, pick the larger stronger fighter because he is so much bigger and stronger. In the end, we were all wrong.

Clearly BJ is a better fighter.
