Both book and tv why didnt stannis include tommen surely he knew if Joffrey dies tommen gets crowned?

Because Mel did not really have anything to do with these guys dying, she saw these guys dying off in her fire and it was just a ploy to convince Stannis that he had to give Edric/Gendry to her so she could do whatever it was that she wanted to do with him.

This. I don't understand how people really think she killed all three of them with the leeches. If it were that easy, why bother with shadowbabies. Shit, why even bother attacking via the Blackwater. Even after the Melisandre chapter when she admits that half the stuff she does are tricks with flammable powders and that one needs to keep up the illusion ofhaving greater power than they really have. It was all a magic show, I thought that was very apparent.

which is why I hated this scene, the audience doesn't have enough background to understand what she was doing, so they're gonna think she actually did cause their deaths.

I was not nearly as against the idea of Gendry/Mel sex happening as some other book fans on the forum but still did not want to see it (and did not think we'd see it either.)

I ended up feeling completely neutral towards the scene.

It made sense after the conversation regarding not showing the lamb the knife before the slaughter so as not to terrify it and spoil the meat. Mel seduced him in order to confuse him and subdue him (in addition to presumably getting his blood flowing in all the necessary places). And then the leeches.

I'm a little confused as to whether or not the leeches are the only thing planned but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If the end result is Gendry at the Wall with Stanis and co. I'm perfectly okay with this deviation from the books.

I've only read through all of the books once, but if I remember correctly the reader does not necessarily know that her leaches are a "trick" at the time they read about it in ASOS. Mel's chapter comes in ADWD which is far later down the line. I think the series is still on pace with the books as far as the mystery aspect of whether her magic is real or not.

You have to remember that we're going to get the Bolton betrayal reveal at the wedding and I'm sure we'll have a scene in either episode 9 or 10 where Tywin reveals his role in the RW as well. So we'll have opposing forces at work in the show. Magic vs. political strategy. And I'm pretty sure that's how it went down in the books as well.

Agreed. Maybe he will be the one who goes to Winterfell to save "Arya" instead of Mance.

Another thing; since we have all seen Yara in the promos does anyone think that Balon's death happens early in the next episode? This would put it in the audiences mind that the blood ritual worked and then of course we get a second death in the same episode. Or do you think it will be episode 10? Because clearly Yara has at least one scene this season and I would assume that scene has to do with Balon's death.

Cause show Mance is too old? LOL. I don't really like this plot deviation too much, but if I had to guess I'd guess he ends up back in the riverlands with Brienne and the BWD, becasue unless they turn the Stannis plotline into another love triangle, Gendry has nothing to do for a long, long time plot wise.

BOOK SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If these leeches are meant to be the demise of the king counterparts, then wouldn't Jon be extreamly pissed when he finds out that she had a hand in Roberts end?

As for Gendry, I think she still plans on burning him, once the leeches have run their course if you know what I mean. It will be at this point that Davos will smuggle him away and tell Stannis to go North. Just my humble opinion. As for the nudity, look its how it is and if you are surprised or upset by it at this point, get over it. I am sure there is something PBS you can watch.

huh??????

wrong!

Ha!

I hope not. I mean, I figured that was the point of the both Jaime and Roose saying the word "regards" as they leave Harrenhal.

And this. Thank you.

I just meant that they'll be saying "The Lannisters send their regards." really small difference, just pointing it out :P

Oh it was ridiculous. I laughed when Stannis and Davos came in looking all serious. Imagine filming that scene and someone asking you later, "So, what've you been up to today then?" Bizarre!

However, exciting if this storyline means Gendry gets to go to with Stannis on his future travels... :)

Look, we're all fans of GRRM's work, so naturally we want GOT to get its due. And the reality is that the never-ending barrage of pointless sex and nudity is more likely to turn viewers off than add new ones. I mean, every time they throw one of these scenes in the response is anything but positive.

Moreover, I have a hard time believing that people actually watch strictly for these scenes, as in, they wouldn't be watching otherwise. GOT's good enough on its own without having to resort to all these added scenes. It's cheap, divisive, and comically transparent.

My general rule of thumb: if the T&A on screen are in the source material, no problem. But what's that been? 20% ...10% (...less???).

I think that's the heart of the matter. If there were a sex scene that were true to the books, I don't think people would complain, even if it were the fat pink mast scene or the myrish swamp scene.

Its when the T&A takes time away from other, more important, and more cherished source material that people get mad about.

Plus, porno is free and widely available on the internet. As you said, I doubt people only watch the show for the sex scenes. Plenty of people watch shows like Walking Dead or Breaking Bad that have no sex scenes whatsoever. The lack of sex scenes definitely do not ruin a show, however, extra sex scenes that are over the top, ridiculous, and eat up time that could be used for character or story development are irritating.

Given the choice between an irrelevant sex scene, and a cool direwolf scene (or something) that contributed to the story, I think many would choose the scene that contributed to the story.

I love the "quota". It's just a pair of boobs being groped by someone with the sexual finesse of a 10th grader.

But seriously, don't have a problem with it at all. I agree with the sex-phobic comment.

And also, I would be freaking out too if someone dropped a leech on my donger.

Bit harsh. It's her on top. :cool4:

Whether you like it or not, most-if-not-all of the sex scenes did contribute to the story.

Whether the sex scenes contribute to the story or not is irrelevant.

Every time they add a gratuitous sex scene that wasn't in the books, they're simultaneously opting NOT to include one that was. You'd have a hard time convincing me that the precious time devoted to Pod-the-Sex-god, Mel going all Basic Instinct on Gendry, et al, was better spent than instead developing Bran and the Reeds, or Jon, or Cat...or just about anyone else.

People don't want to hear 'quota' but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck...

I don't mind a little "sexposition" here or there like Viscerys in the tub talking about dragons while having sex with a naked girl...but it didn't add anything to the series, nor did the bride of Dracula torture henchwomen add anything to the story, nor did Mel's naked sex scene add anything to the story. Mel and Stannis having sex, fine, it was heavily hinted at in the books, they want to show on screen fine. Mel and Gendry having sex so she can then tie him up and leech him is idiotic. Pod in a room full of naked whores when Catelyn Stark has had like 3 lines of dialogue in the last month is idiotic. More talk of Talisa's butt than of guest right or the missing Frey army is idiotic.
