[BOOK SPOILERS] Rant and Rave Part 2

Check out the first part of part 1 of this thread, this bugged a lot of us. Needle is so much more than that, and Needle is Jon Snow's smile, sigh.

Exactly.

The thing is, the way the scene was filmed with the Stark music, I got all of that out of the scene. So what I find head-scratching is why they need to shoe-horn revenge into everything they're talking about. It's like, they think it's a really subtle theme to the season or something, when we're literally being bashed over the head with it. Obviously Arya is motivated by revenge, hence her list and such. But let Needle be about...Needle. About her Starkness.

Though I guess to them Starks = Revenge, though gods forbid they write in the one character who actually does represent it.

I devised a short, simple reading comprehension exercise for D&D:

Instructions: Read the following paragraph and select the correct answer for the question below

“Needle was Robb and Bran and Rickon, her mother and her father, even Sansa. Needle was Winterfell's grey walls, and the laughter of its people. Needle was the summer snows, Old Nan's stories, the heart tree with its red leaves and scary face, the warm earthy smell of the glass gardens, the sound of the north wind rattling the shutters of her room. Needle was Jon Snow's smile. He used to mess my hair and call me "little sister," she remembered, and suddenly there were tears in her eyes.”

Which of these things IS Needle?

A) A car

B ) Two whores playing with each other's arse

C) A nickname for Podrick's penis

D) The actual name of Podrick's penis

E) Revenge

F) Jon Snow's smile

After much deliberation, D&D chose option E

I'm still reading the 70 something pages in part one of this thread and have to say I'm pretty grateful for it! So much valid criticism that I thought I was alone with up until now (on watchersonthewall.com you get butchered for daring to criticise the show). So keep at it, I'll catch up ;)

Oh man, and i wanted to go there and start hating on the show a little.

I don't lose my hope though, that by the time S05E04 has aired, the number of hate-watchers will increase considerably enough to counter all the ass-licking in terms of noise.

Surprised they didn't go for b to be honest.

Oh, they were sorely tempted, but then they remembered that absolutely everything about ASoIaF is about revenge. Funnily, enough, they answered revenge in every question.

Has anyone told the ass-lickers of the show this potential exercise?

Recall all the people who told you they have never watched the show, that they plan to never do, or that they watched just a couple of episodes and didn't give it a chance. Yeah, some of them even called it adjectives, sometimes nasty ones: boring, tedious, stupid, campy, etc. Now, some of them changed their minds afterwards. Some of your friends started watching it regulary after their initial disdain, and liked it.

Disregarding for a moment the obvious issues of starting a TV show from the middle, which can be done but is far from ideal, so as to compare apples to apples. Ask yourself: the people who changed their minds, did they jump on board after catching some later episode, Season 4 and onwards? WOULD YOU, in order to convince a fella to get on board with the show, show him/her an episode from that range, instead of a random episode from early on, say Season 2?

I think we all know the answer.

I find the way they portrayed Tommen and Margaery quite troubling. Couldn't they have framed the sex between them as disturbing? Like have Marg full of doubts and worry about the effect on Tommen? Have Carol showing some concern for her son's psychological welfare before and after the wedding night? Hell, they could have had Marg in a scene with Loras where they discuss her mixed feelings on the subject i.e. her desire to do her duty and her worry about the boy. Although that would clearly run the risk of contravening the rule of Loras having more to his character than homosexuality.

What's worse to me is they weren't forced to show a fucked up sexual relationship that's at best abuse between a 14 year old boy and a women in her mid twenties because it was in the books they decided they wanted to sexualise the relationship between tommen and Margery so instead of her giving a 8 year old kittens we have her manipulating a at most 14 year old with sex because they wanted that for some reason?

I miss ser pounce

Yeah, the ramp up the sex and nudity way too much and miss the subtle importance of certain scenes and sentences in GRRM's original work.

Hi everyone,

Just out now from DD Comix:

Porne - Chapter I: The Brothel's Bouncer

100% Book Snob approved:

Enjoy!

Haha, this is The Brothel Gardens, not one of Batfingers joints.

I LOVE your Prince Doran, and I'm not even finished reading it yet, as this board has been driving me crazy and I have it up as a bad job for a while. Glad I made it back, and thank you. :lmao:

I just realized "Veep" is currently a better adaptation of the general vibe of Cersei's aFfC chapters than whatever it is D&D are doing

Lol The Walking Dead Season 5 has been a better adaptation of its source material than GoT these past 2 seasons. They keep in big moments and don't needlessly change lines or character motivations for no reason.
