Rant and Rave without Repercussion [Book Spoilers]

Recommended Posts

Kind of a mediocre episode. So did Jon tell his brothers that a massive army of the dead just attacked? Because it doesn't look like it.

I liked the fighting pit scene for the most part. A bit cheesy with the escape TBH though. I was pretty tense wondering if Jorah was going to die. Surprised that none of he, Missandei, or Daario died right there.

And Stannis...oh boy. I kind of saw it coming but couldn't quite bring myself to believe it. I thought Melisandre might kidnap Shireen. That was disgusting and painful. I was never a big Stannis fan but I feel bad for those that are. This plunges him to the level of Joffrey and Ramsay. Sacrificing your own child. That is the most cruel thing in the history of the show.

The Shireen burning is making me wonder what I ever saw in this awful show.

It's been getting worse every season. This was the final nail in the coffin of what once was a decent adaptation.

So, the Queen of Meereen doesn't have guards posted outside her box when surrounded by thousands of people because...........creatively they wanted it that way so Jorah could be super cool spear throwing guy?

Trying not to think about that other scene. I can still hear the screaming.

I didn't watch the extra stuff, but D&D's comments about their conversation with GRRM gives me JUST enough pause not to get up in arms about Shireen at the moment.

I also find it comical that this season was going to "improve" on AFfC and DwD. Jamie, Brienne, and Dorne are oft-cited as being particularly dull. Yet across the board, all three are so much worse.

After watching this episode - what was the point of Dorne? Did they want to include the Snakes so Tyene could show Bronn her tits?

I listened to a bit of the inside the episode thing, and from what I've heard, GRRM did not tell them Stannis burns Shireen. What they say is "When George told us about this. . ." I wouldn't put it past them to have heard "Melisandre burns Shireen" and understood it as "Melisandre and Stannis burn Shireen." Because they have pretty much always shown that they understand Stannis to be Melisandre's bitch.

Oh and they also go on to say how they thought it was so bad but so good at the same time, from a storytelling perspective.

They really make me quite sick

exactly mel probably burns shireen in the books without stannis knowing (likely what will convince stannis to legitamize one of robert's bastards).

It makes zero sense for stannis to burn shireen, she was his sole HEIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:

So Dumb and Dumber are blaming GRRM for this mess? And you're defending them? Have you read the Theon chapter from TWoW? Book-Stannis would clearly sacrifice himself before he let someone kill Shireen. You have no clue what you're talking about. I have no doubt that Melisandre (alone not with the help of Stannis) will sacrifice Shireen to resurrect Jon, but that's clearly not going to happen on the show. And while I don't want her to do it in the books, I can see why GRRM would do it that way: Jon is the hero everyone has been rooting for. But is his life more important than Shireen's life?

What D&D have done is nonsense. They're clowns.

Hoo boy. There is a lot of shade in that post. I love it!

Disgusting. I'll see out the season , but after that I'm firmly waiting for Mr Martin to produce his next book, however long it takes. Fuck this.

Same. Dany/Drogon was the last huge event I was looking forward to (WoS and For the Watch as well) so I'm done after next week. Feels relieving.

I did happen to catch this. Uh....

Look, yes the Shireen thing is shit, but can I RANT ABOUT DORNE????

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS PLOTLINE?

Also so much for the "the sand snakes will be more important than Arianne" theory. Trys gets the Small Council seat. TRYS.

And let's play more on Dornish hypersexuality: Faullaria is down with the twincest!

You can rant about Dorne all you want. This episode was a shitshow of epic proportions, no matter where your loyalties lie.

Stannis was planning to put Shireen on the Iron Throne, not burn her alive.

Dany flying away on Drogon looked almost as silly as your typical SyFy channel movie.

Yes, the Stannis stuff is more singlularly misunderstanding of the character, but the Dorne stuff is just a million times worse from a writing perspective, it was boring, and it was pointless, and it made no sense. You can at least explain the Stannis stuff as just that their Stannis is a different (albeit inferior) character, the Dorne stuff was just all terrible writing.

This was horrible. Absolutely, completely, indescribably horrible. You don't have a father burn a daughter he loves because...well, just because, boo-hoo, Ramsay Bolton torched some supplies. Please. At least come up with a really, really good reason. At least show the father thinking about some other options. Oh, whatever.

Then there's Dany, who should be dead, but isn't, because her assassins just stood there. Why in fuck's name would they do that?

Then there's Dorne, where nothing happened. The snakes were not as bad as usual, so that's a plus.

Then there's poor Arya, and even she couldn't save it.

omfg.

I'm done, for sure. I'm honestly trying to put in words everything that sucked about this episode but I just can't. Everything, just everything was awful.

Well, no, I liked Obara's sleepy "slut", and when Obara is the only good thing about an episode I think it's time to call it quits.

I might post in this thread in a while, and I might even watch the finale for completion's sake, but I'm done.

Where to start.

What's the point of Dorne arc?

Stannis and Shireen what the hell D&D? Beyond pathetic. This could've been glorious episode, but they had to do this.

Ellaria?

Jon and widlings on the other side of the Wall?

Meryn Trant a pedophile?Seriously?I'm suprise he's not Loras 2.0 and don't prefer boys.

And Olly...I see what you did there.Really another suspicious look from Olly?

Meereen literally saved this episode.

I really try and watch without considering the books but the inconsistencies and the heavy-handed foreshadowing are driving me batty. So now Dany has grey scale? I hate that the pit scene devolved into saving Dany. What was up with SOH stabbing high born Mereenese? Why do the Unsullied fight so damn bad? Why didn't the SOH rush the defensive circle around Dany?

Figure that showing Stannis as a caring parent is supposed to make us feel how tragic it was for him to burn his daughter. Book Stannis is not a sympathetic character but the show writers decided to make him so so that the burning would be more shocking.

Can't forget the obligatory, "I'm gonna stab you, Jon Snow" stare from Olly.

On a positive note, no boobs!

The best thing I can say is at least nothing traumatic happened to Sansa... this week.

If GRRM writes Stannis burning Shireen alive, I'll be upset, but I'm sure he'd be able to sell me on it. Not condoning the action, of course, but he'd write it well enough that we can see why Stannis did it, what was its purpose, why it was in-character for him at the time, even if we still hate him for it.

This did not accomplish that for me. It feels like YET AGAIN they threw something vaguely book-ish (maybe) in where it seemed to fit time-wise but did not get developed well, fit in with characterization, fit in with the *cough* themes.

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
