Sky sports are still running with it, although it’s changed from the fee being agreed to talks between the clubs being held.

In reality, it might not be a bad move for Dembele. He’s not a nailed on starter week in week out at Celtic. I can’t imagine many top 6 clubs thinking they’d need him. Would he start at Leicester? No. Burnley or Everton? Maybe.

Leigh Griffiths and Kris Boyd were both brilliant in the SPL but struggled at Wolves and Middlesbrough. Maybe a club like Brighton would be best for someone like Dembele to try and establish himself in the PL.

Incredible stuff from Kane. It's not even arguable anymore; he is the best striker in the premier league.

He really loves a hat trick. If spurs miss out on champions league thia year they will really struggle to hold on to him. Seems loyal, but not sure he is that loyal.

Pogba hasn’t been in the best form has he? Was only casually paying attention to the game but he didn’t look very good.

He wasn't terrible but he wasn't great. Since returning from suspension he's been a little but tentative.

No-one apart from Messi Lingard was good today though.

Another disappointing result. We've been playing poorly and getting away with it for the most part for some time now and our set-piece defending has been terrible. DDG needs to be more commanding of the six yard box. This is an area of his game that could use improvement.

So could you see him leave for another PL club ? I guess than Chelsea and Man City would come for him whatever the price Spurs ask for him is.

(I know he will probably end up at Madrid, but still)

I really couldn’t see him leaving Tottenham for another London club like Chelsea; that would burn all the bridges he had built at Tottenham in a second. If he was to stay in England, a Manchester club is more likely.

The problem for Tottenham is their strict wage structure. Kane has outscored Messi and Ronaldo in 2017, yet Tottenham pay him only a fraction of what Messi and Ronaldo earn.

At the moment, Kane is probably the best centre forward in Europe. You can only imagine what Real Madrid would be willing to pay him a week - or Manchester United, considering what they are meant to be paying Romelu Lukaku a week.

I can see why people would say Lewandowski, so I won’t argue against you with that. I think I judge Lewandowski a bit because he plays in a league where his team has won the league with ease for the last five years, so I expect him to achieve the kind of figures he does.

My reasons for going with Kane is that he doesn’t play for the ‘best’ team in his league, he scores regularly in a highly competitive league, doesn’t shrink in big games (of which there are a lot in the PL) and scores all types of goals. His impressive return at international level and in the Champions League show that he’s not just a league specialist, either (not that Lewandowski is, as his record in the Champions League and international level is brilliant, too). I just use the competitiveness of the Premier League compared to the Bundesliga to divide the two players.

If that is the main difference between the two, would you rank Aubameyang over Lewandowski - as, like Kane, he plays for one of the pack beneath the leaders and has a pretty similar record?

I was thinking about that as I wrote the comment, actually. I think you have to give Aubameyang a lot of credit for outscoring Lewandowski last season but I wouldn’t rate him as a better centre forward as I think Lewandowski is a far more ‘complete’ striker, in the sense that he can score all types of goals. Plus, I think that may have been the first season Aubameyang outscored him. Lewandowski has been a consistent high scorer for years. That’s why it comes down to either Kane or Lewandowski. And the above reasons are why I would have Kane edging it over Lewandowski.
