Book Hauls!

Fresh from bookstore.

I just succumbed to the hype and bought Justin Cronin's The Passage. There was a "buy 3, pay 2" sales action, so I took GRRM's Dreamsongs 1 and 2.

Swords and Dark Magic, JV Jones' Watcher of the Dead and ASOIAF 2010 calendar are sitting in my cart on bookdepository.com and I'll trigger them tomorrow, so they show on my next month's bill.

I went to the bookshop today as well. I was half-considering buying The Passage as well, and maybe Ken Macleod's The Restoration Game. However, I ended up buying neither of them, and instead got Ian McDonald's The Dervish House, Charlie Stross' The Fuller Memorandum and Adrian Tchaikovsky's The Scarab Path. There was a 3-for-2 offer on, but it didn't include The Passage and they didn't have the Macleod so I ended up buying the other three instead.

My MiL asked me what I wanted for my Name Day and I gave her a list of books to pick from. She got me Kraken by China Mieville, The Passage by Justin Cronin and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. She made me wait the whole two weeks she was here and she only gave me the books on the last evening, but that's ok. It's not as if I could read them with her here.

Waiting for shipment from amazon.com with the following:

The Name of the Rose - Umberto Eco

Letter to a Christian Nation - Sam Harris

A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson

A Clash of Kings - GRRM (because it was the only one I didn't have in US Mass Market Paperback)

Also just got my birthday-box from my parents with some books in Swedish, plus Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett (because I happened to have two copies in Sweden and none here in New York).

Just picked up Sanderson's 'The Way of Kings', and damn-near had an orgasm in the store. I'm a huge world-building nerd, and the maps, sketches, ancient text quotes, etc 'bout put me on my ass.

Can't wait for work to end today. Been waiting for this one for a while now...

I realised that I only have 8 books left to read so went and ordered "The strain" by Hogan/Del Toro, "World war z" by Max brooks, "the stand" by Stephen King and "The twelve" by Jasper Kent. I must be in a post apocalyptic/non-twilight vampire mood. That or the play, com promotion manager is feeling down :)

Almost got hold of "the passage" but realised due to size I should wait for the paperback.
