A Personal Statement from Iain M. Banks

That was indeed far too fast!

It's more than 25 years since I read my first novel by him (The Bridge). I would be lying if I said that I became an instant hardcore fan, but it certainly got me interested, and after reading The Wasp Factory, and some time later Consider Phlebas, I was hooked. Since then, I have had so much fun reading his books, and I have always looked forward to the next.

Oh, how he will be missed!

We lost one of the greats - there is no doubt about that. He revived the space opera in way that no one would have predicted. I drank a dram of Highland Park to his memory last night.
