What's annoying you today? Part the grievous

I found out yesterday that I'm apparently responsible for finding out whether employees of the company I work for in my region whose visa has expired have the right to work in the UK. That definitely sounds like a HR kind of thing to me but after talking to three different people in the HR department I was told, no, it's me that has to do it.

So, fine, I went on the Home Office website which has been set up for employers to check this and it turns out we don't have the Home Office case reference we need to use the website. Ok, so then I ring the employee's solicitor to get it, she tells me they don't have it but gives a Home Office number to ring to try and sort it out. After being on hold for about 10 minutes the guy who answers tells me it was the wrong number and gives me the right number, after being on hold for another 10 minutes I'm told I need some other information on the application, which I ring the solicitor to get, then spend another period on hold to be told that once we're reasonably satisfied the employee has applied to extend their visa we have 28 days when we're not subject to penalties.

When I ring the employee's solicitor back to tell her there's however many weeks before we need this case reference she basically just said 'oh, right, I'll e-mail it to you as soon as we get it'. Ffs, she's a solicitor who specialises in immigration law, why the fuck did I have to make 5 phone calls to tell her that? Surely she should have just known that and told me the first bloody time I called her.

I stumbled on a Winds of Winter* spoiler in an article about the Trump campaign (ffs!) this morning.  Thanks a lot George.

*presumably.  GoT S6 at least.

Someone asked for advice about whether to get a dog, partially to help with companionship and their own mental health troubles. I strongly suggested they should take their time - as in, several months at least - to think about it. A dog is a 10-15 year commitment which will affect your life in everything from your finances to whether you can go out partying and stay away all night with no worries. It's not a decision which I think anyone should make on the fly, particularly if they're coming out of a period of depression and that may still be influencing their thinking.

Two weeks later, she's got a dog. I'm sure it will be fine, but I do wish she'd taken more time to really be sure.

OMG I am so annoyed by my coworkers right now.  One is taking credit for stuff I do.  It's not even worth calling him on it; he's a compulsive liar.

The other one is a lazy, pompous jackass.  That's not worth calling out either.

And I just got back from vacation.  Grrrr Grrrrr  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Vacation?  Yeah?  Where'd you go?  I just got back from vacation too!

Isn't it fun?  Couldn't you do it ALL the time?  I could.  :D

The weather!! Which is beyond dire. Whatever summer we had seems to be gone, and all anyone can do is huddling indoors. :( It is really depressing and disheartening, since very, very soon it will be winter again and huddling under huge coats and scarfs. Come on weather, give us something to work with damnit! :box:

It's hotter than a mother****er here.  I'll trade you ANY day.  I was just standing, holding a water hose on my poor plants, not doing a darn thing else, and sweat was trickling down my back and front.

I HATE THIS WEATHER SOOOOO MUCH.

Insomnia got really bad for the first time in a long while last night and I didn't sleep at all. I've just found out all of the free tea bags that are in our office break room are decaf. What kind of madness is this?

ETA: I also add my support to the banning of summer. It's fucking miserable in the Swamplands.

I went to Utah and visited with my daughter and grandbaby.  I had a blast.  And then I came home and am dealing with wiener heads nonstop.  I need another vacation.

From what I understand from quickly perusing the Bakker threads, it **has** been split into two - one of which is The Unholy Consult.  (someone correct me if I'm wrong.)  I'm trying to stay out of the recent thread since spoilers abound.  BUT we can get our fix of atrocity as one recently released, so not to worry.  :D

Ha. Without getting into dirty nasty specifics, yes, its part 3 of 4, with 4 due next summer.

Ugh, I'm annoyed that I haven't had time to check this thread sooner.  This is endlessly frustrating.  I was really looking forward to finishing the series - I haven't read tWLW yet, because I've been waiting for it to be completed.  Thanks for the info though!

The lousy weather.

Looking out the window, the only way you can tell it's early August & not November is by how green and leafy it is outside.  It's been a terrible summer here in Scotland this year.

People at work who do fuck all when they are there getting more shifts than I do. (None of us are contracted for a certain amount of hours). I work hard when I'm there, always keep myself busy and help out others if they need help. But there are people who just stand about twiddling their thumbs and talking to each other when there is stuff to do. And they have a lot of shifts this week, while I have three. Grrr.

Okay, Peter Thiel already annoyed me greatly with the Gawker thing, but now he has gone too far. It's not enough to be a Trump loving neo reactionary billionaire. It seems he is now a Trump loving neo reactionary billionaire vampire. He is imagining a future where he extends his life by feasting on the blood of millennials. I'm sure Richard K Morgan is already writing the novel on this.

Peter Thiel Isn't the First to Think Young People's Blood Will Make Him Immortal
