Rant and Rave Without Repercussion 2 (Book Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

Ugh.

Its so nice to see this plot point paid off. You know, with Jon showing so much concern that his little brother is beyond the Wall, where he has just witnessed an army of the unDead massacring Wildlings. But oh no! He wasn't at Crasters Keep. Oh well, lets forget about him and never speak of this moment again.

I said it was stupid when it happened. I said it was stupid at the end of last season. And after Hardhome I'm just, whut?

right?

YAY!!!!!!!

I'd like to get into the HoBaW a bit. I don't get that scene. Who is fake Jaqen? A life for a death, fine, but who is that bloke and why is he willingly drinking poison? Why are there two Jaqen faces, two Arya faces? The faces are supposed to be unique, they're actual faces, from actual people. Not something you buy from a wholesaler or at poundland.

The Arya segment of the story has been on my mind, but I have to admit it wasn't because of the end in the Hall of Faces. I suspect we are going with........D&D wanted shock, and it will be trickery and magic (you know, that thing they don't like to use if it means Lady Stoneheart and that thing they are claiming won't bring back Jon Snow, LOL) and maybe some drugging as well. I had even wondered, during that scene with the extra Jaqen, if he would turn out to be the Insurance man that Arya never got around to murdering? Then, throw in the poison and what not, who knows what really happened anyway. Also, as usual, we will NEVER get answers to all of these questions. I'm all for organizing the list of lapses, though.

The reason the Hall it self wasn't on my mind was because the murder of InstaPedeoTrant has been what I've concentrated on a bit. First off, I'm still ticked that we even needed all of that...................to justify the killing. I've seen many make a big deal about it being that perhaps Trant, in bookverse, didn't deserve murder, but that's something for another day. Ignoring the fact that Arya used a face without her or us every knowing how to do so (or not being shown such on screen) is one thing. What bothered me was I think they used the Tickler type kill on Trant for two reasons, and they were wrong to do so. First off, the Tickler was killed in the books a certain way, stabbed over and over with her asking his eternal questions, and the show using that seemed out of place and just instant retribution for their InstaChildRapist. Then, they finish it up with the eyes for the sake of, I guess, trying to shock the Unsullied Audience in thinking that Arya's blinding was retribution somehow, when really....it's SUPPOSED to be accelerated training.

It was all for shocks and oh shits, the way it was all put together, it didn't serve story, context, or character, and most of it, other than Arya's blindness, will not be addressed. But hey, The Not Quite Kindly Jaqen did get a change of clothes. A Girl is......grateful.

That's the thing with the show - nobody seems to care about anyone if it isn't convenient for the scene. Bran beyond the wall? Who cares! Hizdahr zo Loraq murdered by the Harpies? Oh well. Gilly almost raped by two watchmen? Forget those guys, I'm sure they're nice people most of the time. Ser Barristan, a living legend, slaughtered in an alley? Wait, Ser who?

Speaking of Porne, it really kills me that Tyene, in books, has ONE SINGLE mention (very casually by Arianne) of her sexual life. It's not even kinky or anything odd. She's just there with some guy who came too fast, something that can happen to anyone who is relatively young. She doesn't go around dressed "like a whore" (so to speak) or saying "I want seeeex!!!" like a maniac. She's a normal twenty something girl who enjoys sex with sex is on the menu but have quite a busy life besides that.

And the show turned her into "bad pussy lolita flasher".

Yet, the one girl who is introduced by mentioning she was just involved in a threesome with two female twins has barely a participation. No mention of her sexual life. I suppose when you bed other girls you don't have one? :dunno:

Women who might be able to find happiness with other women? Oh noes!

Arya pulling the faces off the dead man reminded me of an episode of Scooby Doo.

LOL, that, too. Arya pulling the faces really DID remind me of something, I'm not putting my finger on it, though. Well, ok, the face pulling reminded of Scooby Doo, and..........something else, I can't quite figure it out. I may peek again, just to see Jaqen's new suit, LOL

I've been thinking the same about stopping watching, but honestly, I'm not going to avoid the spoilers. You can't. Spoilers Are Coming! And I don't want gossip or Facebook to do it instead. So instead I'm resigned to keep watching and go grey early in 2 years.

Back on topic though, last nights episode was IMHO the worst episode yet. From all 5 seasons. It was like a terribly unfunny sketchshow, ramdomly jumping from one badly acted calamitous slapstip yet dark scene to the next.

Also, that battle, I mean lets face it, they're preaching costs and resources, but we all know they were far more interested in paying hundreds of extras to stand and shout and throw cabbage whilst Lena heady had her bits on camera for far longer than was necessary to get the message across, than pay them to clack some swords together for the same few minutes of wasted time to give at least some illusion there was actually a fight.

Meryn Trant: I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for that creepy kid in a mask who poked out both my eyes, stabbed me repeatedly then slit my throat. Stupid kids.

Even after having his eyes gouged out, he should still have reacted more active. I mean this is a man fighting for his life and Maisie is so tiny. Even with his eyes put out he should have wrestled her down.

Heh, I just notice that GRRM didn't post anything about the finale episode, not even its record-breaking numbers. I don't think he'll really be working on the show again. Not even for the last season.

Yep, his silence is deafening. I'm guessing the only reason he hasn't come out as a show-hater is because he's developing some shows for HBO. But it's obvious he wants nothing to do with D&D.

Given how deep the dagger went twice, it is miracle he was even conscious at this point,

Jaquen III in a nice black outfit is much better than II in the desert storm surplus. Yes.

Here's the thing, we are not supposed to make sense of it. She's a badass ninja revenge assassin rule breakin badass killin I do what I want badass hero. Lots of faces are cool. The end. Jaqen is hot. We got another one. Killing II was dramatic. But, he's hot. So we got III, and thank the lord, he's in a better outfit. Now she's blind. Drama. Whatever. Bad pussy.

"He asked us, “Who is Jon Snow’s mother?” We had discussed it before, and we gave a shocking answer. At that point, George didn’t actually say whether or not we were right or wrong, but his smile was his tell. We knew we had passed the Wonka test, at that point."

They go on to say, "but Jon Snow is going to die anyway so this important plot line doesn't even matter", everyone laughed, it was a good time.

I don't even have the will to rant anymore people.

Fucking hell. The finale had the largest first time audience of any episode of GOT. More than the premier. So, 'bad pussy' is totally validated. Shock and awe is totally validated.

All the horses are gone except the one Mel rode off on is validated. Nobody but us book nerds care about errors and inconsistencies and blatant stupidity of characters like Stannis, the great military commander planning to attack a moated castle in the day time.

Bad pussy. Controversy. Action. CGI dragons is what people want to watch.

If anything, I am not surprised more people tuned in because of things like........all the talk of MANY DEATHS, end of season, etc. What I have noticed is..........also, perhaps what looks like a last hurrah for some, spreading all season long, and some of this mess will figure into next years reception for the show, by critics and fans, both.

I'm not thinking any of the ratings numbers have anything to do with that 'bad pussy' or the even worse story lines.

I don't think the show will actually spoil anything. For example, what the show is spoiling about Stannis that we didn't figure out on our own? That he won't sit on the Throne? Even his most rabid fans are ok. with this as long as he plays a good role in the general storyline.

According to the Show, Stannis will burn Shireen to have good chances when he faces the Boltons.

In the books, not only he has parted there with Shireen still alive and relatively safe but considering he's one of the "lies" Dany is meant to slay, is very likely the both will meet. So, Stannis won't lose the Battle of Winterfell nor I think will die before Dany arrives.

What else can the show spoil? That Jon dies? There is no way he dies in the books this soon. That Dany will be crowned by the Dothrakis? We already knew that. That Meereen problems will be solved by something else than her? Actually, I think mostly are expecting this (putting aside Tyrion's holiness).

So, I think we readers are fine. :dunno:

On the bright side, this season made a ton of Stannis haters into Stannis fans.

So his unfair treatment, the highlighting of his bad qualities, made some guys remember the good qualities he has in the books..soooo there's that. yay

Or how bout take the gag out of his mouth and scream HELP! while she continues to rant to him and stab him every few seconds.
