Truths From Qarth

Recommended Posts

One of the better parts of the novels for me has to be the chapters in Qarth.  Daenerys enters the House Of The Undying seeking answers.  Pyat Pree was not expecting Daenerys to survive and what she saw inside were secrets meant to not come out.  The warlocks and witches have no reason to lie.  They didn't think the Targaryen princess would survive them.  Dany beat the trap because she has a sharp mind and she had Drogon.

Pyat instructed Dany to only take the doors to the right.  Always the right.  This is a physical impossibility given the size and design of the house as seen from the outside.  It is not the Tardis with a bigger inside.  She entered another realm where the physics and time are different.  Which is why she can see the past as well as the future.  Dany traveled through time and back again. The long, dark hallway repeats an earlier dream from A Game Of Thrones.  The ancient kingly ancestors were not present this time but she had someone better to protect her this time.  Drogon.

Room 1.  The woman and the four naked little men.  These are Baratheon, Stark, Greyjoy, and Lannister raping Westeros.  The naked woman is Dany's kingdom.  The four villainous families are destroying the beautiful kingdom.  This vision is the war caused by the dispute between Stannis and Renly.  Robb and Cersei.  Balon needing to bring back the old way of life for the Ironborn.  The Lannisters wanting to keep the throne.

Room 2.  The Red Wedding.  Dany seeing a picture of the wedding at the twins.  The dead man wearing the head of the wolf is Robb Stark begging for justice.

Room 3.  The room describes a child's play room.  Her room in Braavos.  She dodged the lure of the trap.

Room 4.  Her father's throne room in Kings' Landing.  Aerys ordering the pyromancers to burn the city.

Room 5.  Rhaegar's failure.  Rhaegar thought his boy will be the prince who was promised.  He looked at Dany and said there must be one more.  I know Rhaegar failed because he began messing around with Lyanna.  He didn't stay on course.  Dany fulfills the needed third.  Rhaegar looked in Dany's direction like Robb did earlier.  Aegon and Rhaenys are dead.  Rhaegar failed to father his three dragons just like he failed to become the next king. Rhaegar got the prophecy wrong.  Dany is the three-headed dragon.  She is the dragon with three heads, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.

The lights in the Hallway are starting to go out.  The Long Night is approaching.  Drogon sensed the darkness and urged Dany on.  Dany's sharp mind figured out the trick and took the door.  More doors to the right finally took her back to the light.

Pyat Pree tried to push Dany back but she was not fooled.  She saw the real Pyat Pree for the pale wormlike creature that he is.  Reminds me of what Bran is becoming.  She ignored Pyat and walked through the door to the place of the undying.

The Undying have been waiting for Dany, the Prince Who Was Promised.

"Long have we awaited you.  We knew you were to come to us.  A thousand years ago we knew, and have been waiting all this time.  We sent the comet to show you the way."

"We have knowledge to share with you.  And magic weapons to arm you with."  The man in the emerald armor was talking about Lightbringer.

Mother of dragons, child of storm, child of three.  They recognize Daenerys of House Targaryen, the Mother of dragons.  She was born on Dragonstone during a storm.  She is a Targaryen, the child of ancestors Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya.

The Three Fires.  Executions.  She will order three executions by fire.  Mirri was a traitor and was the first execution.

Three treasons.  Mirri was the first.  She murdered Khal Drogo and engineered the death of Prince Rhaego.  Related to the fires.  Two more traitors will be burned to death.

Mother of dragons, daughter of death.  Rhaella, Aerys, Rhaegar, Viserys, Rhaenys, Aegon, and Rhaego are dead.  Dany is the last of the Targaryens.  She is the only heir to the kingdom.

Mother of dragon, slayer of lies.  Stannis, Aegon, and the stone beast are frauds.  Dany is Azor Ahai.  Aegon is not the heir to Westeros.  He's not a Targaryen.  The third, a man will come pretending to be a Targaryen and he will get burned.

Mother of dragons, bride of fire.  Drogo was not a Targaryen.  He was not fire.  So the fire is Dany herself.  She is a bride made of fire.  This is true because dragons are said to be fire made flesh.  Dany will give three men to the flames. She will light three funeral fires for three men.  Drogo was the first after Mirri murdered him.  The corpse on the prow of the ship might be a Greyjoy but I think it's the body of Maester Aemon who will be brought to Dany by the Ironborn.  The Greyjoy warship will be transporting the body to be burned.  The blue rose is Jon Snow.  Jon betrayed the Nights Watch and caused a crack in the wall.  Jon's inept leadership weakened the military order.  The blue flower has taken roots in the cracks he made.  Jon will never leave the wall even though he is a Targaryen bastard.  Dany will go to the wall and burn Jon's body per Targaryen custom.

This scene has political importance in future dealings with the Starks.  Nutcases like Jon and Arya will demand the deaths of the Freys.  I don't think Dany will agree to the murder of innocents.  This is the wedge which will push the Starks to open the Wall and let the Others through.  They will choose destruction rather than submit because their request for revenge got denied.  Dany is the best, Aegon second best, chance for the Freys to receive a just trial.

Jon is Mance Rayder's bastard.  Reincarnation happens in the world of ice and fire.  The wildling king known as Mance is the reincarnation of Bael.

The Silver horse, the Grey corpse, and the Blue flower are gifts described by colors.  Daenerys receives these gifts.  Drogo gifts the silver horse before he dies.  Victarion gives Daenerys the ships before he dies.  Jon gives Daenerys the wall before he dies.  The three men will die because of betrayal.  They were betrayed.  But they also betrayed their own people.  Drogo betrayed Dothraki traditions by marrying the Targaryen princess.  He further betrayed them when he let Daenerys spare Mirri from raping and worse.  Victarion will betray the ironborn.  He already betrays Euron.  Jon betrayed his command.  He is a traitor to the Night's Watch.

The silver horse is the Dothraki khalasars.  Grey corpse is the Greyjoy fleet of warships.  The blue flower is the Night's Watch.  Dothraki, Ironborn, and Black Brothers will bend their knees and help Daenerys save Westeros from the Others.  We can also coonect these to the three treasons she will know.  Drogo was betrayed for blood.  The blood of Mirri's people cried for revenge and she killed him for them.  Victarion will be betrayed for gold.  The dusky woman is a hired killer paid with gold.  Jon was killed because Bowen loved the Watch and wanted to protect it from Jon's foolishness.  Bowen did it for love of the Watch.

Sometimes I think Dany is actually trapped in the house of the undying .... Pyat says to always take the first door to the right . Once , she saw there was no door to the right and saw a bunch of door to the left and assumes the last door on the left is the first door on the right . However we have no actual proof that there was no door on the right. She may have missed it . Probably didn't see it properly

They are Stannis, Robb, Balon and Joffrey raping Westeros, Renly is dead. The naked woman is Westeros, not Dany's kingdom.

It's interesting that Aeron sees a similar vision in his TWOW sample chapter: a man and a woman dwarf biting each other, while Euron (and his mate) are laughing. I think this indicates Aegon and Cersei fighting for the Throne while Euron benefits from it.

I wonder if room 3 is one of the 'days that never were' which only exists in her imagination considering the multiple hints at 'lemon trees don't grow in Braavos'

I think this will be important for Dany's story. I expect that KL will burn and she will first accuse the Lannisters of planting wildfire plus she will be demanding Jaime's execution until he tells her the story, and when he repeats Aerys' words to her, she will realize that the wildfire was planted by her own father, her family's actions caused the demise of the city founded by her family.

Dany definitel won't ride 3 dragons.

Rhaegar simultaneously looks at Elia and Dany, telling them both that 'there must be one more', and he is referring to her planned child with Lyanna - whom he believes to be his Visenya, Dany as seen in the vision - who will prove to be Jon Snow. This is a hint that Dany must find Jon Snow, his pair and other dragon head on the other end of the world.

No, it's not three executions by fire. The first is the 'fire for life', which have caused dragons to come alive once again.

The second is 'fire for death', probably the funeral pyre of King's Landing, but it could also be the inner city of Volantis, a second Harrenhal.

The third is 'fire to love' and GRRM said that fire represents passion, sexual ardor, love, so I think it's simply 'love to love', falling in love with Jon Snow.

I am not sure that the three treasons will happen to Dany. The treason for blood is almost certainly Mirri, but the other two could have different meanings, for example Dany could find out Ned Stark's 'treason for love' against Robert by raising Jon Snow.

Don't you feel you are a bit obssessed with burning? Dany didn't give Mirri to the flames because she enjoyed burning her, she did it because she wanted to hatch dragons. It would be pretty disturbing if Dany enjoyed burning people.

No, this is talking about the three destinies she takes upon. First, she takes upon the destiny meant for Viserys by becoming a Queen. Second, she takes upon the destiny meant for Rhaego by becoming the 'Stallion Who Mounts the World' and uniting the Dothraki. Third, she takes upon the destiny Rhaegar imagined for himself by leading the fight against the Others.

Yes, these are the people stealing her destiny, claiming her mantle for themselves.

Melisandre's narrative claims Stannis to be Azor Ahai but Dany is Azor Ahai.

Varys' narrative claims Aegon to be Rhaegar's successor and a person who sympathizes with the plight of the smallfolk and knows his duty to them, but this describes Dany.

The third is Euron, who takes up the mantle of a Valyrian dragonlord and tries to make the world anew by 'leaping from a tall tower' (Hightower), but this again describes Dany, who has taken similar risks by stepping into a funeral pyre and liberating slaves in Astapor (a madness akin to Euron's), but she will (in large part) succeed.

The woman getting raped is not anyone she recognized.  It can't be Rhaella because the Valyrian looks would have interested Dany.  Not Lyanna because the woman in the room was attractive and Lyanna looked like Jon and Arya.  She could be Cersei.  Stannis, Robb, Balon, and Renly are enemies of Cersei.  The boys are causing more harm to Westeros even if Cersei is lacking in her leadership style.

Wolf-headed Robb holding a roast for his scepter is the very image of a fool.  Roose and Walder made a complete fool out of Robb.  Robb made a complete fool of himself.  The throne, the crown, the wolf, the scepter are mockeries of King Robb.  I would like to know Dany's opinion of the tableau.

Cremating Jon's body will allow his spirit to move on into another life in the white direwolf.

Why is Stannis represented as a dwarf raping Westeros ? What actual damage has stannis done to westeros at that point of time ?

I tend to think 'bride of fire' refers to her embracing fire, as she does when she walks into the funeral pyre. By embracing fire, she hatches the eggs, and becomes the Mother of Dragons. While apparently embracing death by stepping in to join her husbands corpse in the pyre, she is embracing life and fire.

On the bright side, though, by going bald he's reflecting more light back into space than he would if he had a full head of hair, thus helping to reduce the effects of global warming.
