LongRider
Elf's crybaby boss puts trip to UK on hold. Quote Donald Trump has told Theresa May in a phone call he does not want to go ahead with a state visit to Britain until the British public supports him coming. The US president said he did not want to come if there were large-scale protests and his remarks in effect put the visit on hold for some time. The call was made in recent weeks, according to a Downing Street adviser who was in the room. The statement surprised May, according to those present. Manhole Eunuchsbane
Have you guys been following the Talking Points that Conservatives have been forwarding regarding the Comey Testimony and the whole Russia/Trump collusion investigation? I listened to about a half an hour of a Ben Shapiro podcast last night, which centered on the Comey stuff. Shapiro seems to believe that the main reason that the Dems are pressing this is that they want a valid excuse as to why they lost this election. Like that's his main point. That they only want this investigated in order to vindicate the loss. So fucking ridiculous.

Like does this mean the bill is really dead, or is he just referring to the fact that it will be greatly modified from the form it took when it passed the House. DireWolfSpirit
So if something about the recent Quatar criticism by Trump doesnt quite pass the smell test for you. It is now being widely suggested that Trump is attacking Quatar's terror fighting record because they told Donald, Ivanka and Jared "No Thanks" on several occasions when the Trumps pitched buisness deals to the Quatari money men. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-says-qatar-funds-terror-heres-his-record-of-trying-to-get-it-to-fund-him_us_593d6691e4b0c5a35ca06118?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009 Quatar Air Bases and other cooperation are an immense resource for the U.S. Military's ability to fight the ISIS forces in that region, one has to now question whether the Donald is even aware of this? Interesting article. So Jared shows himself to be just as astute as pater in law when investing in real estate. 666 Fifth Ave is worth less than the mortgage. Did not the address alone give him second thoughts? The Qataris seem to understand Trump quite well. His track record is one of paying himself well and letting his investors flounder as the real estate goes 'under water'.
ThinkerX
Some folks saw this coming during the Campaign. Does make one wonder if the two-party system will be viable even in name only much longer: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/democrats-in-split-screen-the-base-wants-it-all-the-party-wants-to-win/ar-BBCubXv?li=BBnbcA1&ocid=msnclassic DUNWOODY, Ga. — Democrats are facing an open breach between the demands of their political base and the strict limits of their power, as liberal activists dream of transforming the health care system and impeaching President Trump, while candidates in hard-fought elections ask wary independent voters merely for a fresh chance at governing. The growing tension between the party’s ascendant militant wing, and Democrats in conservative-leaning terrain, where the party must compete to win power in Congress, was on vivid, split-screen display over the weekend: in Chicago, where Senator Bernie Sanders led a revival-style meeting of his progressive devotees, and in Atlanta, where Democrats are spending colossal sums of money in hopes of seizing a traditionally Republican congressional district. It may be essential for Democrats to reconcile the party’s two clashing impulses if they are to retake the House of Representatives in 2018. In a promising political environment, a drawn-out struggle over Democratic strategy and ideology could spill into primary elections and disrupt the party’s path to a majority.[/quote

Fragile Bird
I have been watching both Canadian news and CNN, and I don't see any story about Sessions backing out of testifying on Tuesday. I do see speculation as to whether or not the testimony will be in public or behind closed doors. Also, both the WH and 10 Downing are denying the invitation to Trump has been withdrawn. May is going to be busy, though, so no date has been set. And of course, when there's a minority government there's always the possibility of defeat at any time, the fall of the government and a new election. And May herself could be a goner pretty soon. The Anti-Targ
Sounds like the heat is coming on for Trump to release any tapes he might have of conversations with Comey. Even if the tapes largely vindicate Comey, for Trump's sake he better have them. It's worse to imply there are tapes when there aren't (a[nother] lie, pretty much) than to have tapes which support Comey's version of events more than Trump's. It's interesting that Trump says he's willing to testify, rather than saying he will release tapes which will speak for themselves, (and for him). The Anti-Targ
An indication of Trump's base of support in New Zealand? An article about the level of negative press Trump is getting has an online poll asking "Is the media coverage of Trump too negative? http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/93579071/is-media-coverage-of-trump-too-negative-youre-asking-the-wrong-question 9% say kind of too negative in that the level of negativity has gone too far. These may or may not be Trump supporters. I might agree in a boy who cried wolf sense. The more negative stuff there is about Trump, without it actually seriously harming him directly, them more further negative stuff becomes white noise. Especially when some negative stuff is arguably very trivial... Covfefe. 21% say that the media has been completely unfair. I would say most or all of those respondents would be Trump supporters. If I was asked to guess I might have guessed 10-15% as his base of support here. But 20% is not too surprising. It does suggest that a Trump-like populist could get reasonable parliamentary representation..
