Watch, Watched, Watching: The Prequel

Had some time off last week and caught up on a few things on netflix.

Dark - Not sure how much I liked this, there were times where it was really good and times where I just blindly watched. I struggle to watch dubbed or subtitled movies so that may play a role in it.

GLOW S2, ehh..pretty much same feeling as S1. Kind of funny to watch mostly because I remember as a 12 year old watching the real GLOW on like channel 20 with rabbit ear antenna around 10pm on a black and white screen smaller than most small lap tops.

Watched The Last Jedi again, first time since theaters. I still like it even though I hate the whole casino plot and the awkward stabs at comedy.

I watched that Jim Jeffries yesterday.  That was some funny shit.

I have to disagree. I thought it was mildly funny, but rarely did I actually laugh. It wasn’t anywhere close to being as good as his earlier works.

Thanks to finding that a nearby cinema offers cheaper tickets on a Monday evening I decided to kill a couple of hours and watch Oceans 8. I've never seen the others so have nothing as a comparison. I enjoyed it for what it was, a slightly absurd 'this could never happen' heist. Very good cast who did their best with what they were given. However, the film wasn't really long enough to give any of them time to shine or develop their characters much/at all.

All in all it was a fine way to kill some time but wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again.

I will be making this cinema trip a more frequent occurrence though, if only I could get more Monday evenings off work. And the beauty of going to see films that have been out a while already, it's an almost empty screening! My favourite kind of screening. I think k there was only me, three women in the back, and another lone ranger on my row. Thankfully he knew the score of lone cinema goers; avoid eye contact, keep seats between you regardless of ticket number, leave 30 seconds between leaving so as to avoid awkward and uncomfortable walking out of the cinema together.

I watched Young Frankenstein this weekend. I honestly can't recall if I had ever seen it before, but it was great. It was that perfect combination of smart and funny. It's a shame that movies like it typically can't be made today.

The new special was the first I'd seen of his, but then I went and watched the one in Nashville and thought they were comparable.

His earlier specials, I Swear to God and Alcoholocaust are the best, imo.

Doesn't seem like many people watched it because I don't recall seeing any discussion about it here, but if you missed the first season of Pose you really missed out. So glad it got picked up for season 2!

Not sure which one that is, but when I Googled Jim Jefferies and Nashville it said it was his most recent one. Regardless, watch Alcoholocaust and Fully Functional. His earlier work is great because a lot of it is about growing up in Australia with a bizarre family and a disabled best friend. Once he ran that shtick into the ground his work has fallen off a bit, though he’s still funny and I’d absolutely buy a ticket to his show if he was in town.

Your opinion is bad.

I thought they passed a Constitutional Amendment recently codifying into law that Bengals fans aren’t allowed to question other people’s opinions.

Anyways, look man, it’s billed as a comedy and it was boring, which is the worst thing you can say about a comedy.

I thought it was hilarious, and didn’t find it boring in the slightest.

And glass houses on the Bengals man. Vikes aren’t exactly New England Patriots themselves. :P

Oh yeah? Well at least we win a playoff game or two before our hearts are broken. You guys just get your hearts broken without the winning. You’re really lucky that the Browns exist and our in the same state as the Bengals.

I thought the worst thing you could say about a comedy is that it isn't funny?

I think I mentioned this before, but as badly as I wanted to like Death of Stalin I got bored too the time I saw it, but I did wonder if I needed to see it again.  But I also saw it in a full theater of presumably pretty film-savvy Hollywood types, and the rest of the audience also didn't seem too impressed.

Currently sitting at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s been pretty well received overall.

Finally got something with a penis to straighten out my surround sound for the projector. So I'm enjoying a The Expanse rewatch (haven't seen the last 2 episodes of season 3 so I'm gonna do the whole thing).

The flip and burn of The Canterbury in episode 1 was terrific. Had my hair waving in the bass. And I paid for the good sound so I can turn it up as loud as I want but if you leave the Circle of Sweetness it falls precipitously. Won't even wake the neighbors :)
