Wasn't there some big demo already pushed back for Cyberpunk 2077? Surely I'm just being sour, but when I read the new release date I got Fallout 4/76 flashbacks. Like they're hiding the game.

This is the second delay, I think, but a similar thing happened with Witcher 3 too. I'd assume they just need to scrub and polish (npi) a little more (and the switch to remote-working probably hasn't helped.) I don't think CDPR have done anything bad enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Bethesda, yet.

EAPlay's event was very thoroughly underwhelming.

A whole bunch of sports games which are okay if that's your jam, a couple of new games which look interesting but we don't really know anything them and that's about it really (aside from surprise-releasing everything they've done from the last few years on Steam, which is actually pretty good; Titanfall 2 is a no-brainer at that price). They did reconfirm that Dragon Age 4 and Battlefield VI exist, but also confirmed they're not launching until late 2021 at the earliest, so pretty much showed nothing from them except from very organic, weird looking landscapes for Dragon Age 4.

Star Wars: Squadrons was the big highlight. The controls seem to be the same as X-Wing (with power management, shield balancing and weapons choice) and the flight model - hugely surprisingly - seems to draw from Elite: Dangerous more than the old games, with some accommodation for inertia, which I was really not expecting. The fully-rendered cockpits look absolutely amazing.

Oddly, given it's the focus of the game, multiplayer looks a bit limited. 5v5 battles with like 6 capital ships on each side is hugely underwhelming compared to what X-Wing vs TIE Fighter could do back in the 1990s.

Also, no B-wing but including the U-wing is going to annoy a lot of people.

They've got a huge public preview of the game on the 25th of this month, I believe, and have sent an entire, apparently fairly extensive, demo build to journalists to play from home, so they're definitely not hiding this game compared to any other Triple A title. I don't think they have any problems at all with the game's scope, story or writing, they're just concerned about it shipping with a lot of bugs.

I had to look up what a U-wing was. I only know the B-wing from Rogue Leader (unless it was in Squadron also?) and don't remember it being in any of the movies pre-special editions. You think people will miss it that much?

I hope they have some secret vehicles like the Rogue games did. I wonder if you'd be able to hide something like the Naboo Star-fighter for so long these days. Though it's a moot point cause they'd just patch it in instead of hiding it in the base game.

I had to look up the U Wing as well.  Definitely remembered the B Wing from RotJ though!

The B-wing in the X-Wing series was a tank, it could take a lot of punishment and dish out a lot of it in return. It was like the Y-wing but not as fragile.  The B-wing was basically less of a fighter and more of a gunboat or a very light frigate. If anything, the B-wing not being in the game despite Hera being in it (and one of her best stories in Rebels revolved around getting the B-wing for the Alliance) is a bit of an odd choice.

About 3 hours out from LoU2.  I'm off work tomorrow and the beer is ready to flow.  So fucking pumped.

I’m debating the digital vs physical edition.  I have recently come to enjoy the ease of digital... but I do have the disc of the first game.  So would match

I remember the Hera B-Wing plot from Rebels, I don't remember them in RoTJ but I trust you guys that they were there.

Oooh, full HOTAS support for Squadrons. Sweet.

I can't wait to see what people do with things like the Xbox Adaptive Controller and Arduinos. Personally I won't be happy until I have to uncover and flip three molly guarded switches to arm the hyperdrive.

I also have the disc for the first but couldn't pass up the ease of digital. Installed and ready to rock.

Finished the last of us 2 and oh boy. Not bad like some people are trying to say it is. The execution of the story was a little wonky.

bleaker / darker than the first. A lot longer too. Feel they missed some opportunities. Gonna do another play through at some point soon.

That was fast.

Also, people are saying it’s bad? I’ve seen pretty much universal praise so far.

Same here.

The only negative I've heard is that the violence is at times a bit much. :dunno:

It was the reaction to the story leaks last month and the publishing of screenshots from the game (both without a lot of context). I've seen a lot of complaints along the lines they turned the game into The Walking Dead-style misery porn.

Haven't played the first one yet, let alone the second, so no idea how true that it is.

Yeah, among people who saw the leaks there seemed to be a lot of anger at the game. I read the leaks, but I never played the first game (PS2 was the last time I was in the Sony ecosystem), so I dunno how much merit the anger had.

I remember a lot of folks who read the FF7R leaks also got angry, but that never seemed to translate to the wider game audience once the game was out.

On the other hand, while Death Stranding didn't have leaks really it did have some reviewers and others who got to the end very early on warning that most of their early game positivity disappeared after seeing where things ended up. And it seems like that ended up happening for a quite a few people in the wider game audience; though I'm not sure if it was a majority or anything.

So, I've found myself in a bit of a conundrum when it comes to gaming. I seem to have ruined video games for myself, because I focused mainly on MMO gaming and multiplayer shooters like CoD for almost twenty years.

Due to college, family, and career stuff, I mainly focused on moderately hardcore raiding guilds in games like EQ, EQ2, WoW, etc., and only paused that to play multiplayer CoD with RL friends. Due to the time commitments of keeping up with a top-5 server raiding guild (I tried to keep up with a bleeding edge content guild in EQ2, and that's a full-time job in itself), I was forced to let other types of gaming that I'd previously enjoyed go, so I missed out on a ton of the really great single player content that came out.

Now that I'm more secure in my career (knock on wood), and my kids are older, I'm finding myself with more time on my hands, but feeling less inclined to deal with the hassle and drama of MMOs, and less inclined to play CoD on random multiplayer, since I am apparently now a dinosaur and can't figure out how to jump in the air, aim a sniper rifle, and headshot an enemy across the map before I land, plus the discourse is 10 times as bad as it was even 5 or so years back.

I tried going back to SWTOR recently, but I wasn't getting the same enjoyment out of it because of the stupid shit, and thought that I should start trying all these single players that I can finish on my own time and don't have to deal with anyone else.

But, whether I'm going back and trying to play classic games that I missed, like Last of Us, or new, highly-rated releases, I just find all single player stuff incredibly tiresome, even when I find the story itself engrossing, or enjoy the gameplay. Am I doomed to deal with MMO accusations of guild infiltrations and spies (the political shit with MMOs was something I never understood) forever? Or has anyone been in my position and managed to rehabilitate themselves with a specific playlist they'd like to share?
