No other post in the history of this entire forum has more starkly highlighted this board’s lack of a popcorn-eating emoji. As an elder millennial I have a love / hate relationship with the internet. I’m old enough to remember life before it was possibly for an online mob of self righteous strangers to take a blowtorch to your career and personal life. But, having grown up alongside the internet I am glad that I sort of innately had the tech savvy to realize that the internet is only private and anonymous until it isn’t and to proceed accordingly. I’m sure that if my whole history of things that I have personally authored on the internet were laid before me there would be a few things in there that I now regret putting out into the world - and those probably entirely from age 25 or less when the ol prefrontal cortex wasn’t firing on all cylinders just yet. But something tells me I’m not going to have Majorie Taylor Greene and Alex Jones personal messages on a right wing website level of regrettable. Teng Ai Hui
from the previous thread, by @DireWolfSpirit Quote France is sending its former President to Prison! This gives me great hope that we can accomplish this here with our criminal former President. South Korea's former President Park Guen-Hye lost her final appeal recently and will be in prison for at least 20 more years. A trend is starting. #OrangeIsTheNewOrange

Martell Spy
Third Cuomo accuser steps forward, deepening governor’s scandal A woman claims Cuomo made unwanted advances toward her at a wedding reception in 2019, calling her "aggressive" after she removed his hand from the small of her back and asking, "Can I kiss you?" https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/albany/story/2021/03/01/third-cuomo-accuser-steps-forward-deepening-governors-scandal-1366273 Quote NEW YORK — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo remained in hiding Monday as the state attorney general formally announced an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment — and some of the state’s top Democrats began to wonder just how long the three-term governor can hold on. The allegations of sexual misconduct by two former aides, which followed a mushrooming scandal around the deaths of nursing home residents, seemed to override every other political priority in the state and left Cuomo at his most vulnerable point since taking office 10 years ago. By evening, Cuomo was facing a new claim: A woman whom he had not previously met said the governor made unwanted advances toward her at a wedding reception in 2019, calling her “aggressive” after she removed his hand from the small of her back and asking, “Can I kiss you?” “I was so confused and shocked and embarrassed,” Anna Ruch, 33, told the New York Times in describing the encounter, which the paper said was corroborated by a friend, text message and photographs. “I turned my head away and didn’t have words in that moment.” The new claim, which differed from two earlier accusations in that Ruch was not an employee of Cuomo, added to the governor’s growing troubles. Already, the accusations by his former aides in recent days had become the single greatest threat to his career and an inescapable subject for New York’s political class. How many times had any country sanctioned the leaders of a country? Has Putin been sanctioned? Is his travel restricted? Will Putin be arrested if he shows up in the US? Get real. DMC
SCOTUS is hearing two cases today that could neuter the "results" protection of Section 2 of the VRA. Briefly explained: Quote Section 2, meanwhile, provides two separate protections against discrimination. If a plaintiff can show that an election law was enacted for the purpose of making it harder for voters of a certain race to vote, then that law violates the Voting Rights Act’s “intent test,” and should be struck down. At the same time, the Voting Rights Act also prohibits any state law that “results in a denial or abridgement of the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color.” So even if a particular law was not enacted with racist intent, it still may be struck down if it violates this “results test,” which prohibits some state and local election rules that have disproportionate impact on voters of color. Weakening this protection will enable states to craft voter suppression measures that are obviously racist - so long as they only deal with the "where" or "when" of making voting available. And, as Mindwalker pointed out, Biden specifically said there would be punishment for what happened to Khashoggi. Though, as we're all now finding out, he appears to be as useless as many people feared. And yeah, I'm angry with the UK continuing to prop up these murderous bastards with state of the art weaponry to drop on women and children in Yemen.
