The UK cannot be defeated by Brussels. Which is correct, Brexit was always self-defeating. So Britain is not defeated by Brussels, but by Britain.

As a former IT project manager responsible for implementing massively complex systems, I can tell you that this is horseshit. Of the highest order. There is no such thing as a system that cannot be changed.

Unfortunately, the British electorate are largely as thick as the Tories believe them to be. For many, this will appear perfectly reasonable.

Someone needs to drill down into his bullshit and ask him to state, on the record, precisely what it is that is preventing them from helping people.

Oh, we know that - it's the fact that he doesn't give a flying fuck about poor people - and nor do his base, including the poor people who still vote conservative because the Mail made them scared of the alternative.

“It is not necessarily possible to increase benefits for everybody. Many of the systems are built so it can only be done once a year"

GTFOH.

OK, two things:

1. If the government really, really wanted to find a way to do this, they could have found a way to do this. So it is an excuse.

2. Even if it were not. Even if this were true. Which it is not. The fact that Sunak got as far as opening his mouth on a TV show and uttering these words shows just how badly this government fails to understand the world that ordinary voters experience. Anyone who did understand that would realise that saying this out loud is insulting to voters and makes you sound like the weakest leader imaginable, a person who understands that what is happening is bad but finds it just too difficult to do anything. It's a capitulation as far as his leadership hopes go, if they still existed.

Talking about severe health risks.

Johnson has backed down on his silly little NI protocol threats.

Looks like Biden told him in no uncertain terms to stop that nonsense.

Quote

Johnson will make it clear that the government has never suggested scrapping the protocol and that there will always need to be a treaty in place between the UK and the EU that prevents a hard border on the island of Ireland. He will also recognise the need to protect the integrity of the EU single market.

Let's see how long this new found conviction to honour international treaties lasts. I give it six months at best, before he or some other dimwit from his cabinet starts again.

Separate cases of Monkeypox in London and Scotland being reported this morning. No known links between patients. Eek.

This is it. The zombies are finally coming.

Lipid nano particles in the COVID-19 vaccine carrying pathogens being activated by 5G signals, according to some conspiracists.

More seriously though, the US CDC says " In Africa, monkeypox has been shown to cause death in as many as 1 in 10 persons who contract the disease." I hope that is mostly because of a lack of access to medical care, because if that translates more generally, that's quite scary. Fortunately it seems transmission is somewhat more difficult than COVID, but you wouldn't want a significant outbreak.

Also from CDC "Currently, there is no proven, safe treatment for monkeypox virus infection. For purposes of controlling a monkeypox outbreak in the United States, smallpox vaccine, antivirals, and vaccinia immune globulin (VIG) can be used."

(Quote by Johnson, not by a horse) Is he saying that he wants to ignore the rights of the people of Northern Ireland to join the republic?

Jack Monroe to sue MP after he says ‘she makes fortune from the poor’

Quote

Jack Monroe has instructed libel lawyers after the Tory MP Lee Anderson alleged the writer and food blogger was profiteering from the poor.

Monroe, who won a rancorous, high-profile libel action against the former Daily Mail columnist Katie Hopkins in 2017, tweeted that the MP’s comments were a “very clear cut case of outright libel”.

Although not confirmed, the lawyer in question could be Mark Lewis who pioneered the phone-hacking claims that led to the closure of the News of the World.

In a separate tweet, Monroe reached out to him: “got a job for you pal”.

She's already seen off the Gammon Queen, financially ruining her in the process. Hopkins had to sell her house and is now working as an Alan Pardew lookalike at the end of Blackpool Pier.

I can guarantee you that Anderson is fucking shitting himself this morning. Shitting himself.
