Angalin
I just started a new thread for tourism-related things. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/113000-loncon3-touristy-thread-where-those-who-wish-to-sightsee-can-get-organized/ Thank you. And thank you too for taking the time to look into the possibility of a private party; it's too bad, but que sera sera and all that. The ExCel party setup requirements will be enough of an adjustment to be going on with. (To be clear: not saying they're bad, just different than other years is all. :) )
karaddin
^^ That, hope my earlier post didn't sound like complaining Xray.
Xray the Enforcer
It didn't. No worries. :)
Theda Baratheon
Getting to that point where I'm not even sure I can go because I havent found a place to stay yet. Will a hostal be a good idea, found a cheapish one with lockars with padlocks - just a bit nervous but im on a student budget, so :(
SamanthaofHodorsfield
I've stayed in hostels loads of times as a lone traveller and have never had an issue. What hostel are you looking at?
LessThanLuke2
Also currently looking at hostels. Haven't had any money before now to book. How far away from the ExCel is everyone staying?
Ran
Sounds like most people who've listed hotels are staying at a con hotel, most of which are within a mile or two of the ExCel center.
Deadwood
There is always this to go see - http://www.ica.org.uk/whats-on/tove-jansson-tales-nordic-archipelago for Moomin fans. They (whoever 'they' are) are making a big thing out of Tove Jansson's centenary. Loved the Moomins as a child, the stop motion programme, not the later cartoon. We are staying a mile or two away in an AirBNB apartment.
Xray the Enforcer
Seriously -- while it's convenient to have a hotel closer to the convention, it's not a necessity.
Mich
We are staying a mile or two away in an AirBNB apartment. Same. I found a shared flat literally across the street from the convention centre. Hotels were too pricey and hostels weren't horribly close, and still pricey. yay for the currency exchange...

TheCrannogDweller
I'm staying at Woolwich - three miles and a brisk swim away from the ExCel.
Zoë Sumra
I'm staying at Woolwich - three miles and a brisk swim away from the ExCel. There's a foot tunnel under the Thames at Woolwich so swimming is never necessary. :) Though.the one time I used it I thought I was being chased by Cybermen... TheCrannogDweller
There's a foot tunnel under the Thames at Woolwich so swimming is never necessary. :) But it is healthy. Though probably not in the Thames. :D And as I understand, there is also a free ferry there.

Theda Baratheon
Yep. Finally got it all sorted! Mega bussing it up and got a hostel 20 minutes away from the ExCel :P Now that that's finally done with I can start to be excited!!! ^_^
deleted01
Still looking for a hotel nearby, had no luck so far. We're paying about £55 for train tickets coming into London each day, so we might have to look for a decent hostel for one or two nights instead.
