Fragile Bird
The bed that I sleep on has a pricy expensive pillow top mattress on it. I fell in love with it because a former lover had this wonderful, comfortable bed, and pointed out that we spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, so we might as well be comfortable. But that bed is almost 15 years old, and I know that sooner or later (likely sooner) I'll need to replace it. Today when I was out and about I came across a display of Tempur-pedic mattresses, (a dense foam mattress that is supposed to be good for your body) and I have to admit I'm tempted. So tell me about the bed you sleep in. Are you happy with it? Would you recommend it? Do you have any stories about the bed you sleep in? :)
Littlefingers In The Air
It's fine for me, a twin sized bed. Horrible for anyone else though. Really, I've just come to accept anything that doesn't have me sleeping on the streets anymore. I don't know that I'd recommend that to anyone else, no. Larry of the Lawn
I've had tons of beds, mostly because I move around and am super cheap so I don't spend much on them: 2005-2006 - slept on a nice fold out couch with a futon mattress on top. 2007-2009 - slept on a thin futon mattress in my van with an eggcarton pad, later relocated same bed to cabin on a boat i rented for a year. 2010-2013 upgraded to thicker futon mattress, although most nights i ended up sleeping in my hammock or on gf's cushy latex mattress 2014 - gf's cushy latex mattress 2015 - newer 'king sized' (okay it was two full sized mattresses side by side) futon on top of homemade bed frame. still crash in the hammock a lot. So I favor futons and hammocks.
Fragile Bird
I've slept on a futon. That's for younger people. :)
Kat
My bed is OK. I should be too old for Ikea furniture, but I have one of the ones that's solid wood and then I have a mattress that a friend gave me when she was moving in with her girlfriend, with a 3" memory foam topper on it that my dad gave me after sleeping on it once and deciding it wasn't for me. The foam makes it pretty sweet to sleep on, but I'd like to actually buy a better mattress at some point.
TrueMetis
I sleep on a cot with a box spring and thin foam mattress. Both the box spring and foam mattress probably need to be replaced, they sag considerably in the middle.
IamMe90
I sleep on a smelly, 3 year old futon mattress without sheets that's never been washed. It's not very comfortable. I've developed an odd fondness for it such that I've had the means to replace it several times in the past year but haven't been able to bring myself to do it. Durckad
My bedframe is a custom made thing with drawers beneath it and plenty of storage space both beneath and behind. It's oddly sized so the mattress itself is somewhere between a queen and a twin which makes buying comforters and covers a pain. My parents had it made for me when I was ten or twelve so the thing is almost twenty years old by now and definitely needs to be replaced. I've moved it twice and it sucks to take apart and reassemble. My mattress is just as old as the frame and definitely needs to be replaced, but I'm too damn cheap. It has barely any support and a few holes spotting its surface. I put a three inch thick layer of memory foam on top and that's extended its lifespan a bit, but it can only do so much. Sullen
I sleep on a queen-sized memory foam mattress I inherited from my sister when she moved in with her girlfriend, she only had it for three months. Probably the priciest thing I own, actually.
Kelli Fury
I have a California queen mattress I bought at this point like 10 years ago, but it was pretty ridiculously expensive when I bought it. It's probably time to get a new one
Wise Fool
I sleep on the floor. Well, a sleeping bag. On a mat. But basically that's the floor. It's not a bed, in other words.
Iskaral Pust
We have a new bed arriving next week. Our current is a firm king size but we're switching to a medium tension instead, with a pillow top. I forget the model name. It begins with S, but they all do over here. We tried memory foam before but I didn't really like it because I move around a lot and it felt like I was sunk in place. I think the have new models now with springs below the foam so you have more buoyancy as you move.
Murgle
I sleep on an old queensize bed I got off of craigslist. It's firm. Sometime before I get ancient gonna have to upgrade to a better bed.
Free Northman Reborn
What kind of world do we live in where people have money for internet access and fantasy book series', but not for a proper bed, having to sleep on floor mats, fold out couches and other less than appropriate long term sleeping arrangements? I'm genuinely struck by the peculiarity of it. I mean, who sleeps on a floor mat other than when you are camping, or briefly roughing it for some other adventurous reason? Solmyr
While furnishing my new place I bought a king size bed and a latex foam mattress, which according to the research I did is the most comfortable type for my preferences. Haven't slept on it yet, admittedly, but I have high hopes.
deleted01
I got a new mattress about a year ago. I just have a double bed - I miss my king size :( - but it's pretty comfortable. My SO likes firm mattresses and rocks for pillows, but I like things a bit softer, so I went for a number 4. His mattress is like sleeping on a slab of concrete. I will fight to the death to have my one as our main mattress when we move in together. :P When I got the mattress, it was huge - I almost had to jump off the bed in the mornings. But it's been squished down since then.
Dr. Pepper
Ugh, I've been in mattress hell for about a year now. I had a bed that was ok but aging so I got a new one. I went with foam as I had tried it out at a store and thought it was nice. I hated it. I was in pain every morning. I was told by everyone that there is an adjustment period with foam mattresses and that I'd get used to it but it never happened. I just developed more pains. I finally got rid of it. I rather like sleeping on the floor so I floor slept for a bit and then got a thick air mattress. Fucking loved it. I slept like a dream on that thing. Only problem is it doesn't really hold up well with extended use over time. It started to lose air overnight. While sleeping on that, I went mattress shopping and shopping and shopping. I finally chose a pretty pricey thing. It's a plush coil mattress. I go through stages where I'll sleep really well on it and then spend several days feeling miserable to the point where I return to the comfort of the floor or even pull out the air mattress for a few days. Tonight is one of those days when the mattress has made me feel miserable and I can't sleep. I regret my recent mattress purchase. I definitely regret not returning it during the trial period. I'm not sure what my issue is with mattresses recently and why I can't find something. It's weird that the cheap air mattress is so perfect, if it held up over time I'd probably just stick with it. I've checked out several real air beds, but find I'm reluctant to spend that much money again. I think one of the reasons I really love the cheap air mattress is because the membrane is thin and it keeps my body at a really ideal temp at night which aids my sleep. Kind of like how sleeping on the floor can keep the body cooler (assuming no carpet). But real air beds have layers to it so that 'cool' factor doesn't exist. To sum up, I think it would be a good idea to take a look at air mattresses. Sleep Number seems to be the most popular brand and they have a lot of showrooms so they can be tested easily. Free Northman Reborn
Wise fool No, I'm not judging. I'm just struck by the contrast between the obvious intelligence and articulateness of many people on the forum, and the level of material wellbeing it turns out they have in real life. Given that they have to sleep on mats and other less than ideal pieces of furniture, as revealed in this thread. Let's take you as an example: In my mind, based on the depth and quality of your posts in general, I would not have imagined such a situation. You come across as educated and intelligent, and therefore based on that I guess I just automatically assumed a commensurate level of material success in life. Sleeping on the floor - unless a deliberate choice due to some quest for enlightenment or a similar spiritual reason (think a monk who sleeps on a stone bed for x number of years for some obscure reason) - doesn't really compute for me, given my impression of the quality of person I'm engaging in conversation with around here. As I said. Interesting.
Theda Baratheon
I moved in with my Nan recently and I sleep on a king size bed with two matresses and another thing underneath i dunno what it is so im quite high off the ground. I find it very comfy considering i never slept in a bed bigger than my tiny single bed at home till i went to uni and moved in to my student flat so i still consider it a bit of my luxury sometimes. i much prefer the bed at nans to my uni flat's one tho...i never felt 100% clean in that bed...and yes i changed bed linen all the time it just didnt feel right probably because the flat itself was riddled with problems
