Season's a bust either way, and their absolutely best hope is to plan for next season with a new manager. We now know (as we all knew before he came too) that the new manager won't be Frank Lampard. It didn't make much sense objectively to dismiss Tuchel early on in the season either. It didn't make much sense to randomly sign young players for inflated fees, gambling that they will work out fine. Long story short, judging Chelsea's actions by what would make sense is not a good predictor of their actions. There's no sense whatsoever. BigFatCoward
Wonder what odds you could have got on Arsenal having exactly twice as many points as Chelsea at this point in the season?
ljkeane
Chelsea being shit is funny and all but that dickhead in the crowd with a laser needs finding and banning from the ground.
A Horse Named Stranger
Transfer rumour for the next season. United and Bayern are both interested in Frankfurt's Kolo Muani to deal with the CF issues. United are rumoredly a bit further ahead in that chase, as he's their #1 target ahead of Osimhen. Bayern are still discussing him internally, but with a clear tendency of him turning out to be their main target. And what I said in the previous thread about either Kahn or Salihamidzic being off to the chopping block at the end of the season, that seems indeed to be the conclusion, that the higher ups at Bayern reached, too. Somewhat surprisingly journos think that Kahn will be axed. Like I said before, I think objectively it should be Salihamidzic, but he has apparently still the backing of Hoeneß for whatever reason. His contract is up at the end of the season and he's most likely not going to extend. PSG actually suspending him does point towards the club knowing that he has no intention of renewing. Exactly. He's clearly got one and a half feet out the door. But this will show him!

The weird thing is Chelsea wasn't bad to start off the season. They were underperforming for sure, but how the wheels came off is truly strange, especially given how much the new owner spent. This season is an all time disaster.

BigFatCoward
There really needs to be a rule that you can only have 2 managers in a season maximum.

In Serie A at least they have a rule that you can't poach a manager from the same league mid-season. I think it's reasonable tbh

This is not the first time they've imploded (although the other times were not quite as bad). They then promptly bounced back the next season to compete at the top end. Their managerial situation has also been a revolving door for 20 years but even that's not had a negative impact on their ability to win trophies. We'll have to wait and see whether that trend continues or whether the Abramovich magic has left the club to be replaced by the Boehly curse. I really thought the new ownership crew would do a good job even if there was a necessary learning curve, but soccer isn't baseball. They spend like crazy with the Dodgers and the results have largely been excellent. This season for Chelsea has been comically bad.
polishgenius
What an embarrassing thing for someone to get paid to write in the Times. Big Sam was doing moneyball so early it wasn't even called that yet. Far more than this Leeds team ever has. Consigliere
Yeah, Allardyce gets labelled a dinosaur because of his pragmatic style of football but he's no luddite. He was among the first managers in the league (back in his Bolton days) to embrace technology and the latest in data analysis.
