What Movie Did You Watch Recently?

I watches Red State on Netflix the other day as well and was impressed with the level of performance that Smith got out of his actors. There was excellent acting in this particularly so with the cult leader. I wouldn't call it Kevin Smith's best movie as there are several of his films that I enjoyed more than this one.

Well the thing is I don't think Smith is usually a particularly good film maker. His films are often fun but naff. This was a really positive surprise. Loved it.

I really like how Kevin Smith writes and films dialogue. That is what me impresses me the most about his films. I feel like I know the characters.

I just watched Easy A last night. I had avoided that one for months, but for some unbeknownst reason, my remote stopped on this last night. I was expecting a horrible teen movie, and what I found was a well written and half way engrossing story. It was a far more intelligent movie then what I was expecting and I would recommenced it.

Just watched Apollo 18 and thought it was alright, the whole movie is basically 2 astronauts and their struggle to find out what the hell is going on. It reminded me somewhat of Moon from 2 years ago, not quite as interesting as Moon but all in all a decent movie. Probably not something i would watch a second time though unless a friend wanted to watch it.

Saw Quantum of Solace last night. Not as good as Casino Royale, but still decent. 7 out of 10. I wish there were more mano-e-mano fights with Bond in it, like in the Bourne trilogy, these are far more exciting than the endless chase scenes.

Thor, was good, could have involved more hammer action.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil, seriously funny movie, especially when I have seen most of the genre its a parody of.

Inbetweeners the Movie, nice end not as funny as some of the episodes but still funny.

Sherlock Holmes 2. Pretty entertaining. Not much of an improvement upon the first, though. If you liked the original, you'll enjoy it.

It was a fun film, although I preferred the original. I know neither of them are in any way accurate to the original material, but at least the first film had Sherlock doing more detective work whereas the second film is a fairly generic action movie.

Trapped travelling with my (nearly) 2 year old in the car back and forth to Ohio for the holiday, I"ve been subjected to the Polar Express 4 times in the last three days, as well as now seen Cars for the umpteenth time as well as another viewing of Lilo and Stitch, but that's one of my all time favorite DIsney movies, so i was okay with that one... :P

I want to go see this. Badly!

I just saw the Adventures of Tintin. It was pretty good (in 3D), albeit a bit gloomy. Frack the purists, I thought it was enjoyable and set the stage for future episodes/sequels.

I'm also thinking to taking my little bro out to see this.

Just saw The Help. Written and directed by Tate Taylor based on the bestselling novel by Kathryn Stockett. Starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain and Sissy Spacek.

Set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1960. A young socialite (Emma Stone) returns home from college to begin her writing career as a Homemaker Columnist for the local paper. She turns to her friend's housekeepers (Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer) for advice for the column and forges a friendship with them that leads to the foundation of her first novel. The novel centers on the inequities suffered by the black women at the time who were essentially a half rung up from House Slaves. The author herself was essentially raised by one of these women and she is sympathetic to their hardships. As the Civil Rights Movement begins to affect her hometown, she finds herself being ostracized by the women she grew up with as she finds herself on the other side of the fence.

Very solid performance by Stone, but it is Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer who steal the show. Great chemistry between these three characters as they bond over story-telling sessions that Stone takes down for her novel. Bryce Dallas Howard does a convincing villain turn as a Jim Crow supporting socialite and Sissy Spacek provides some comic relief as her more socially progressive yet doddering mother.

Good stuff, Maynard. Check it out.

Watched Another Year, directed by Mike Leigh, starring Jim Broadbent among others. Wonderful film, incredibly atmospheric and mostly just a very thoughtful film. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a good film, and one of the best I've seen in 2011, in or out of cinemas.
