What is your favourite king?

I really like Euron, he is interesting and awesome, but he is not my favorite king.

Stannis is my favorite king by far, and best in my opinion. There is no thing more important then justice done consistently and there is no one more just then Stannis.

Who is your favourite king who is alive and kicking at start of series?

So we have

Robert

Joffrey

Tommen

Renly

Stannis

Griff

Viserys

Daenerys

Balon

Euron

Mance

Robb

Daenerys Targaryen.  The Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men; the Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, Queen of Mereen, and Mother of Dragons.

Mance. All the rest are just entitled as in people should bend for them because of their birth. Some are even arrogant in that regard like Joff, Dany, Viserys and Stannis. Some of them can see their kingship with some nuance and are better for it like Tommen and to a lesser extend Robert. Mance and Euron are the only ones who get ellected, in the case of Euron he gets ellected mostly by nobillety out of a limite amount of candidate's and probably corrupted the process to some degree, Mance is the only one who is acceptable for all his people and deserve's his title on the basis of merrit. A man like Mance who doesn't take his power too serious and can reconciliate various diverse groups to make them work toghether would probably be a capable king, or president.

^^ Yes ! Mance all the way.

Why no mention of Hizdahr?

I think it's got to be a tie between Tommen and Mance.  Tommen basically gets a default win because he's too young to have done anything terrible unlike literally every other king so he's still got a shot at being decent overall and Mance...well, Mance is arguably good enough to make up for his failings.

Honourable mention to Stannis, funniest man in Westeros, who has many admirable qualities, but has too many grievous failings.

Stannis-unlike Renly, Stannis did not block food  from going toward people that really need it(that also help cause the riots that traumatized Lolly),  Unlike Renly, Stannis was never a friend of Littlefinger. He rewards for merit not politics. Stannis would have Brienne be in Kingsguard if she has some some great deeds, Stannis would get rid of Blount and Trant. He would keep Balon Swann. Sure he won't be love but being loved doesn't help when their is a major threat in the world.

Stannis. He's the most just, meritocratic and dutiful of all the contenders, and his most damaging traits (like excessive pride) were beaten down after his defeat at the Blackwater and interactions with Davos. Besides that he's excellent at warfare, pragmatic enough to be an effective ruler, and the only one aware of the true threat and actively working to stop it.

Honourable mention goes to Mance. One of the few great enough to become King Beyond the Wall, and one who did it for a noble purpose. Opinion may change depending on what he's been up to since his defeat.

Mance. If he can get the wildlings together and move them to the Wall, he can get Westeros together. Maybe. He can try, anyway.

After that, it'd be Renly, whose intelligence is underrated. He is responsible enough to be at the small council pretty consistently, which is more than what Robert and Stannis do. He reads the Arya-Joffrey situation at the Trident well. He gets Robert's dissatisfaction with Cersei well enough to offer him Marg, who would be a great match. He has a good offer for Ned when Robert is wounded. He's smart with Cat and Robb. He doesn't alienate them, yet doesn't accept the concept of "king" Robb, either. He's popular and a good politician. Shame Stannis got him.

As a character, of course Stannis is my favorite.

Except Robb didn't declare himself King - his bannermen did. And it's a silly criticism of a noble heir to expect to inherit position and priveleges - that's how feudalism works. Mance thinks differently as he grew up and lived in a different society.

Not only that, but the lords of The Riverlands declared Robb their King - King In The North & King of The Trident. They elected to follow him rather than their own King. Certain lords in The Vale wanted to join him, but their liege lord - or rather, his regent - forbids it.

And for any of his faults, Robb is shown to be honourable and just.
