I think one of our biggest failings in recent years has been the lack of backbone, and the ease with which we've been bullied out of games. When Charlie-Witch King-Adam was throttling Alexis Sanchez at the weekend, it was not at all surprising that not one Arsenal player came to his aid. Perhaps if Wilshere was playing, we would have seen some kind of reaction to that thuggery. I'm not saying I wanted a mass brawl on the pitch, but the lack of response was entirely typical of a bunch of bottlers. Someone like Simeone would definitely toughen us up. Raja
Booing of Arsene Wenger deplorable for media's fetishising of discontent Like this piece from The Guardian And that in the interim there will be booing, not to mention a collective mewling of enervating over-familiarity. What is to be deplored most in all this is simply the fetishising of this discontent, the fashion right now for the media, new and old, to feed and commodify anger, lending an unnatural focus to the familiar old voices of dissent and catharsis. Arsenal could definitely do with a little bit more fight sometimes.Let's be fair to Wenger though, it's gotten much better over the last two seasons. You used to fold a lot more easily than you do now.

Arsenal v Hull City. Hah. Not necessarily, to be fair. Arsenal could definitely do with a little bit more fight sometimes. Let's be fair to Wenger though, it's gotten much better over the last two seasons. You used to fold a lot more easily than you do now. Yea, I agree. I guess I'm not too bothered by it. This year hasn't been great in terms of results but we haven't had a consistent run of players either. It sucks but I still like the players we have on the team and think we're a few defensive players away from a solid team. I don't think getting in Charlie Adam face would have made any difference and I don't think it's Wenger's job to facilitate that type of attitude. He needs to have the right players but it's up to them to defend themselves and while that situation looked bad on picture, during the game it just looked like Adam was beat so held him up. Maybe the players didn't realize he was in a complete chokehold since Alexis would have been in front of Adam in everyone's view. We second guess everything as Arsenal fans, even things that really wouldn't matter and it gets tiresome.

mormont
I enjoyed Ross Barkley's explanation of why he's not a diver: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/lolz-evertons-ross-barkley-says-hes-not-a-diver-because-scousers-dont-dive-liverpool-echo/ It's not just the 'Scousers don't dive' line. It's the entirely reasonable explanation that goes with it. Apparently if you're 'expecting contact' (but there is no contact) and you go down, that's not diving. Hmmm... polishgenius
So apparently tonight we've gone back to the 3-5-2 again, with Carrick and Fellaini as the only true midfielders. Against Southampton's midfield, even weakened, I'm not sure about that one at all, unless he's actually going 4-4-2 with Smalling at RB and Valencia in midfield, which he did do before and it worked quite well.I'd be worried about the movement of Tadic and the athleticism of Wanyama against the ilack of pace of both Carrick and Fellaini. Eh, I don't think that changes a thing. It just shows that Wenger has no control. If it happened, it'd be spun that way by the Wenger haters and you know it.
