Hmmm...don't read the books or play the games, but I don't recall any on Rebels...

I’m surprised to learn they have macarons in this galaxy. Might be the most normal looking food or drink I’ve ever seen in Star Wars...

Another fun episode. That canyon chase was pretty great.

Governor Pryce. I think there were some minor characters, too.

Price I wouldn't consider an officer, any uniform not with standing. She was a Governor. One with delusions of military grandeur, but she wasn't military I do not believe...

I was really hoping to hear him say “Thank you Captain Daala”

Fair.  Though you have to 1. Believe the sequel movies exist and 2. Think about it as she was the first female officer chronologically we've seen since Phasma won't be around for nearly thirty more years...plus she's an officer of the Storm Troopers, not a deck officer... :P

She wears the uniform, she's Imperial.

Ok, if we consider the First Order, too, then all those movies have several minor characters.

Since the other Star Wars thread closed, I will mention here that I watched the LEGO SW Holiday Special, it was silly kid stuff, but worth it for the one line when it took a crap on TROS.

Spoiler

Kylo Ren telling Palpatine about how Vader betrays him, and ends with: "picking you up and chucking you down a reactor shaft, and there's no coming back from that. :lmao:

There was also a line taking a dig at TLJ

Spoiler

Rey to young Luke: Thanks for teaching me something.

Yeah in the R1 I definitely remember female Stormtroopers / TIE Pilots and a few officers. This is likely the first live-action though.

Cool '90's video game reference though.

Same. After our conversation here about the uselessness of stormtroopers I started to get bored the moment they entered the base. I just knew that absolutely nobody was in any danger whatsoever and that they will effortlessly butcher everybody on their way out.

I must say I was especially annoyed at the TIE Fighter scene. They successfully locked onto the protagonists several times, which was always a tell-tale signs of someone getting blown-up, but then they missed anyway. And for a group of TIE Fighters...

Spoiler

... to be destroyed by the Razor Crest, you need to try really hard as a pilot. The TIE Fighter, while lacking survivability, has always been portrayed as one of the fastest and most maneuverable fighters in the entire setting. That's its biggest strength! It is mindboggling that they ended up flying in a straight line long enough for this sluggish goddamn transport and its forward-mounted guns to line up a shot. In all seriousness, the TIEs should have slaughtered the Razor Crest!

Also the scout trooper stupidly climbing onto the troop transport, moving from a position where he easily could have chucked the grenade into the open window to a position where he couldn't, just so they could add the scene of him blowing up. Awesome...

I honestly was genuinely worried about the trio in the tank when the TIEs came. The main characters weren't there, and part of the reason for my worry had to do with some fans calling on Gina Carano to be fired, so I was wondering what could happen. Though I suppose that conversation at the end between Carano and the NR guy could be the real window for Carano to leave the show. Just my speculation.

She’s pretty iconic looking and great in action scenes but Carano is abysmal at acting, id be pretty glad if the show pushed her out.

For sure there's a lot of inconsistencies in the episode. That's why I'm limiting my retrospect to preserve my initial viewing response, which was positive.

On the greater story, I hope they're not trying to dovetail into events that lead to the sequel trilogy. Unless these prove to be false starts, as a result of the Empire's remnants consolidating power & influence, I don't see why we need it to happen now. The ST is some 30yrs away still. Keep that shit 30yrs away imho.

Also,

Spoiler

anyone notice the IG-11 statue in the centre of town?

Nice touch.

Not feeling the hype to be honest. Apart from the fact that we finally got some info about the bad guys' plans, I don't really see much to love about it. There was zero tension as the storm troopers have just become jokes at this point. It's absolutely insane how they weren't able to land a single shot on any of the attackers.

With the Mandalorians last week you could make excuses, since they are super soldiers in nigh unbeatable armor but

Spoiler

water guy and Apollo Creed are not and Carano's character lacks both the power to emote

and to survive a direct hit with a blaster. They should have been creamed realistically speaking. The fact that they got away without a shot, even when being chased by fucking tie fighters indicates to me that this show has no clue what stakes are, which worries me a lot.

Apart from the glaring Storm Trooper issue, there were also just so many other logic fails in the whole thing. What was the point of including

Spoiler

the blue dude in the first place? Why bring him back? (and I'm looking for explanations within the story, which they didn't give, instead of something like "the actor portraying him is a good friend of..." or "the actor has incriminating evidence on Filoni" or something like that) and why on earth did they all put so much stock in him? Doesn't he have an active incentive of betraying them to safe his own hide and write his debts off?

Why did that imperial spy put a tracker in the razor crest, instead of just signalling to everyone on that base that Mando was gone and the Child vulnerable?

Why the hell did they leave their speedster parked outside the base without a guard, even though the area was vulnerable to lava flows which could have destroyed their getaway car?

Why on earth did Apollo Creed and Gina Carano think that attacking an imperial base was a good idea? Didn't they do more scouting? They do realize that they are fucked now. Why Gideon didn't bombard the shit out of their town to begin with I can't fathom, but he sure as hell should launch a punitive expedition now.

And you can keep going like that...

That's going to tie into the wider plot somehow. Unfortunately she's not going anywhere.

Spoiler

And come on dude, this is Hollywood. They are never going to blow up all three character at once. Especially since getting bombed like that would realistically rob them of a speech or a heroic last hurrah which you know they would give Haywire and Apollo Creed by now.

Ai, let her go down fighting, that's her only use and would be a nice way to end it for the character.

I agree

Spoiler

My guess is that Gideon wants to create force sensitive super soldiers, not resurrect Palpatine per se. Everything that avoids us having to acknowledge any of the events in the shitquels is okay for me.

Yeah it was overall a pretty meh episode. I did hang my head when Apollo Creed said ‘oh hey while you are here we need you to do a mission’

What Mando should have said was ‘actually nah, I’ve got to save this yoda kid and if I die doing some stupid mission for you then that’s a problem’

But anyway, I liked the action in the episode, have to like speedbikes and tie fighters in a shoot out.

But the banter was absolutely painful, almost Rise of the Skywalker painful. Being forced to believe in this witty back and forth between two bit side characters was not fun. It didn’t work. Not  everyone has to be witty, wish Disney knew that.

The reveals kept it interesting though, and now I’m quite hyped about the main plot for the first time in the shows run.

I worry that some of the badassery we got this season is over-hyping Ahsoka. Considering her skills and abilities, she could reasonably take on Mando, Bo-Katan and Cara Dune at the same time, so I hope whatever action she will be in will live up the hype.

On the subject of stormtrooper aim, this 2016 article is interesting and suggests that their aim is actually not bad compared to the average modern US soldier in the field, and only poor when compared to high specialised units like snipers. They also note that the stormtroopers' aim is only really comically bad on the Death Star, when we know that they were deliberately trying to let Team Luke escape.

However, that article was written without regard for Rogue OneRebels, Eps 7-9 and Solo, which I'd be interested to see included.

As said above, Governor Pryce. Imperial Governors are military officers with command over entire systems' worth of Imperial resources. Tarkin was a Governor as well and it's quite clear he's a military officer in the Imperial hierarchy, one of the highest-ranking in fact.

In Star Wars Squadrons half of Titan Squadron is made up of female pilots. In Legends you also had Admiral Daala, who noted that it was harder for women to rise to positions of power in the Empire and you had to be incredibly ruthless to do so (the Empire's sexism was pretty much thrown out in the new canon, though, and its racism has only been implied).

It varies - rather wildly - by the story entry, but some sources have it that standard TIEs aren't very good in atmosphere, having the aerodynamic properties of a brick. That's why things like the TIE Striker exist, they're supposed to be the main atmospheric fighter, whilst something like the X-wing and A-wing are designed to be good in both (the B-wing is also rubbish in atmosphere). That doesn't entirely help, though as the Razor Crest is also hardly a swooping, elegant example of aerodynamic grace.
