If man utd really are asking for 50 million for Maguire, that is fucking hilarious.

how much is he worth then?

because it feels like asking for less than 50M is a hilarious loss on the purchase price, while asking for more than 50M is hilariously deluded considering the player he is :dunno:

Bayern have most likely offered Kane just as much. After all, they are paying Mane almost as much (€22 million/year reportedly) and he could yet leave to one of the Saudi clubs. Bayern also have a very healthy wage/revenue ratio of 53% so they have plenty of room to manoeuvre on wages especially given that clubs of Bayern's stature all have wage/revenue ratios around 65% or more. So wages aren't going to be the stumbling block but the transfer fee will be.

No reliable or even semi-reliable sources have reported that United are asking 50 million for Maguire. This claim seems to have originated from MEN who are notoriously unreliable and not much better than the tabloid shitrags. The reliable journos have said that Maguire himself has no intention of leaving and is determined to fight for his place - Romano reported that Maguire has been training with Ricardo Carvalho for the past 3 weeks.

Also, it's worth noting that Maguire is 4 years into a 6-year contract so a transfer fee of over £27m would be recorded as a profit on the books due to amortisation.

Because Maguire doesn't want to leave and is intent on fighting for his place. We would also have to sign a replacement since we can't go into a season with only 3 CBs, one of whom is an injury prone Varane, and FFP considerations restrict how much United can spend without selling.

Chatter I hear now is that Gnoto was never really something we asked about, and that we instead still look at Elanga.

Which I'm liable to believe, because it's the kind of stupid sh*t that fits the image Billy Boy has cultivated since he lucked out on Moyes.

Besides a boost in confidence wouldn't still fix his lack of speed. That's the big underlying problem for Maguire/United. You play a high line, you need pacey cbs with a good recovery speed. The onr quality he lacks. He can be a good/useful player for two teams who play with a low block, but for what ten Hag wants to do with United he is just a bad fit.

So a good loan move means he ends up with a team that defends deeper, he fits in and plays well and regains confidence, then he returns to United and there they still play with a high line again exposing the weak side of his game. Assuming ten Hag will still be in charge next year, and they don't bring in a new manager with a playing style that suits Maguire more.

Point is, this not really about confidence but rather what kinda player Maguire is and what he is not. And he is just a bad fit there.

Yep. The best part is, that Mane no longer features in their plans and they really hope to offload him to Saudi Arabia (or elsewhere). Question is, whether Mane is willing to play ball and bugger off somewhere. Or if he does the Maguire thing and wants to fight for his chance. He still has 2 years left on his contract IIRC.

The CL was always a big deal to Mane.  I think he’ll stay at Bayern rather than sail off into the West with Frodo, Messi and the elves.

Yeah, but he is 30+ now, and he has already won that thing. He has pretty much won everything he possibly could've hoped for. Africa Cup, CL, championships in Europes major leagues. Apart from the longshot of lifting the World Cup with Senegal as the first African Nation, what's left for him? Only reason I can see him sticking in Europe is him wanting to play the 2026 WC (After injuries forced him out of the last one), and him either not believing that Saudi league will be there in 3 years and him not finding a suitable club, when/if it disolves. Either this Bayern contract, or whatever the Saudis (or anybody else) are offering him, will be his last big contract. I don't really see him as still going strong at 35 or 36.
