  2. This is where I am with Dak. If he balls out and Dallas does something, like NFC champ game, in the post season then yeah, we gotta pay him again. If half the season goes by and Dallas is a .500 team I say bench him and put Trey Lance in (assuming he does good in preseason work). Then let Dak walk at the end of the season. The problem in Dallas as I see it now is that we have no run game so Dak will likely put up big numbers again and look like he deserves a big contract even though we don't win anything. On an side note, I would try to trade Lance or Cooper Rush in the preseason for a good RB. Salary cap wise we probably could save some money doing it and strengthen our team. Lance is due 5.3 this year and Rush 2.3. Either one is enough cap space for a legit RB, not a stud, but a legit starter.
  3. NEEDS MORE COWBELL!!! (hey, all caps is kinda fun, who knew)?
  4. Ukrainian attacks in Russian-occupied areas have continued, with strikes on an ammunition and fuel dump in Dovzhansk and a military target near Mariupol. The Russian military is using Telegram to contact soldiers on the front and give them dispersion orders when enemy attacks are incoming. They have warned that Ukraine can now strike up to 300km behind the front lines (!) and Russian soldiers should practice dispersing without giving up territory. Responses along the lines of "fucking how?" seem to be commonplace. Russian milbloggers reporting that Ukraine has achieved artillery superiority on the Kharkiv front, and warning of the potential for a Ukrainian counter-offensive. That would be quite an achievement. Some claims - I would caution that these numbers are unconfirmed, and it's unclear what precise metric is being used - that Ukraine assembled 58 battalions to defend the area, expecting a massed attack from ~75-100 equivalent Russian formations, but Russia only attacked with 51, and several of these have been mauled so badly they effectively do not exist. Some of the Ukrainian battalions have been damaged as well, but nowhere near as bad. Ukraine may have manpower and artillery superiority on the front, creating the conditions for a counter-offensive. The irony is that there's not very much territory to counter-offensive into. They can kick Russia back across the border but an invasion of Russian territory would be...bizarre, and also not militarily useful in holding the Donbas. Reversing course and sending some of those troops back to the Kreminna, Robotyne and Avdiivka fronts might be preferable.
  5. Obsidian is described as being black in color. The Other's sword was pale blue. Don't forget that the entire series is based upon opposing forces or rather two sides of the same coin as suggested by the House of Black and White and Jaqen H'ghar's hair. Ice is the opposing force to Fire. The Other's sword was made of ice. Glass candles are made of black obsidian. The dragons are associated with fiery volcanoes. The Others are associated with ice and frost and whatever it is that makes more ice! Yes, the Children of the Forest mined obsidian (volcanic glass) so there must have been volcanic activity at one time, but the cold overtook the flames and turned it into frozen fire. Its a simplistic description of real life geological features caused by tectonic plates pushing against each other causing earthquakes and the rise and fall of mountains, lakes, and streams, as well as galactic forces such as huge asteroids hitting the planet causing months of darkness, or even variations in our planet's orbit causing interglacial cycles. All of these real life forces that change planets over eons are credited to gods of earth and sky and water on Planetos.
  6. IGN has bought out the Gamer Network of European gaming sites and appears to be wholesale gutting them, making redundant editors at VG247, Eurogamer and my favoured gaming site, Rock Paper Shotgun. Fucking hell.
  7. If we're going by just body count, Tywin should be on this list. The man has directly and indirectly killed millions. Worst of all he employs some of the worst humans in the series to do his horrible work and covers for them, so they can go on continuing to do horrible things.
  8. The third vote was widely boycotted by the Kanaks because they asked for a postponement and it was refused. The first referendum was 56% for remaining with France, the second was 53% for remaining with France, it's possible a third non-boycotted referendum would have achieved a majority for independence given the direction of travel from the previous two, though France's COVID-19 support of New Caledonia possible created more good will than might have otherwise existed. France decided to interpret the 96% result of the third referendum as definitive despite the boycott, which is about as legit as any dictator winning >95% of a vote. There is a difference when a colonial power actively encourages over decades citizens of the colonising country to move to a colony as a deliberate policy to skew the population demographics towards colonial loyalists. When it comes to self-determination of a colony indigenous voices should carry more weight. France Annexed New Caledonia in 1853, and action most people today would regard as illegitimate. If a significant majority of Kanaks want independence then I think that's the direction New Caledonia should be going.
  9. Congrats! You never forget the first one…
  10. You're not the first to suggest a black mirror, but if it were a mirror shouldn't there be the same number of "people" on each side? If there's only Waymar, Will, and Gared looking and being mirrored, then there should only be three shadows. Now, there is a debate as to the actual number of shadows, because the way it is worded can be interpreted differently. At first it seems straightforward. Twins to the first would make three. But then it says, three of them. Is this the same three - the twins to the first? Or did three more shadows come out of the woods after the twins to the first which would then make six? Add "four" and "five" and there are either five shadows or as many as eight. If we're in a funhouse of black mirrors as you suggest, then the number should be divisible by three - three, six, or nine.
  11. I think the guy outweighed by fifty pounds is going to get more tired being leaned into than the guy leaning on them. Thing is wolves have no big forward to guard Luka. Sure they can throw people at him but none of them can actually stop him. Not even slow him down like Dort did.
  12. Despite numerous attempts, I struggled to succinctly organize my thoughts in a creative and comprehensive manner to provide a thorough analysis of the Prologue. This led me into a cycle of endless revisions.… But I can better now respond to you questions:) It seems obvious that Martin’s coy use of the term “ice” is his way of avoiding the answer. In fact, the substance that I’m suggesting is obsidian is perceived by Will to sound like sharp icicles when he closes his eyes and listens to the voices and laughter of the “watchers”. The sound that he’s actually hearing is the broken shards of volcanic glass (“rain of needles”) surrounding Ser Waymar Royce on the ground. The moment is an inverse parallel to Waymar being “outlined nobly against the stars” as he gains the ridge. The watchers are stepping on the shards and making those sounds. Black glittering glass (stars) against the white snow (black sky). He literally is using ice as a metaphor for “frozen fire”.

  14. Ya gotta love it! Maddow Blog | Protestors show up at Trump’s trial, but not the ones he wanted There were definitely some loud protesters on hand for Donald Trump's criminal trial, but they were there to oppose, not support, the former president. https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/protestors-show-trumps-trial-not-ones-wanted-rcna153234
  15. They have a number of defensive wings to throw at him. He'll get tired if the series goes as long as many suspect. And FYI Dallas can only play Gobert off the court if they can go five wide and be successful at it, but that will come with the cost of losing their bigs and if they're off the floor Dallas has no answer for KAT and Reid and their slashing players will have a lot of room to attack the rim.
  16. Indeed, the beauty of a prologue lies in our authors’ ability to subtly place all the necessary clues within the confines of the chapter. Like a puzzle, each piece is placed one at a time with each scrap of plausible evidence adding to the larger picture until the evidence is sufficient to push a theory beyond any reasonable doubt. My search for evidence o regarding the ancient caldera came after being able explain how every move Ser Waymar Royce is mirrored in the “great rock”. It stood to reason that for a large piece of obsidian, a black mirror, to exist there must be a volcano. Martin's adherence to a strict point of view approach makes it conveniently difficult for the reader to fully comprehend everything happening in the series. Many times he doesn’t allow himself to state things directly. The rugged ridge, populated densely with vegetation, rising to a slender peak, served as an initial hint. However, due to Will's straight-on view of the ridge, the round contour of the peak is not immediately apparent. It is only when Will ceases his ascent of the tree, “he listened; he watched”, that a faint suggestion of the ridge's shape is made evident. It’s through Martin's use of some clever imagery that we can see it. Like the moon (another small hint) above undulating ridge of the caldera’s far side the crater is seemingly covered half in shadow. We have Ser Waymar Royce, dressed in all black, turning in a slow circle against the icy backdrop of a snow-covered ridge bathed in moonlight. On the Other side, “a (white) shadow emerged from the dark of the wood”. Now Will doesn’t see the “white shadow” turning in a slow circle because he’s watching Waymar in the moment that the imagery of the Yin/Yang symbol becomes complete. The undulating far side ridge gives the shadow its “s” curve. However, the clues don't end there. There's also auditory evidence to consider. There are specific sounds that Will both hears and doesn't hear. The echo that reverberates "too loudly in the twilit forest" (dead...dead...dead) may hint at the threats of a potentially active volcano and could, at the very least, suggests the presence of a nearby crater. While this clue may seem weak when isolated, when paired with the low-frequency sound waves that the rangers simultaneously perceive, it substantiates the evidence considerably. Low-frequency sound waves, or infrasound, often linked with seismic activity, have been closely connected with paranormal phenomena. This is due to the resonant frequency of the human eye and its purported interference with theta brain waves. The discovery of this phenomenon was triggered by the shivering of a sword, similar to Arya's "needle". In the Prologue, ones discovery could be brought about by Waymar's trembling longsword. This low frequency sound wave is also known as the “fear frequency” or the “brown note” which would describe “a nervous tension that came perilous close to fear” and how Will’s “bowels had turned to water”. This place is special to the CotF, who use the Wall, “great rock”, for scrying. The wordplay plays like this…. Of course if we substitute another word for (s) weeping, “crying”, we get scrying which is a form of divination using a black mirrors. There’s more evidence and more to tell but ultimately…..For example, what makes a destrier (infrasound) and why the wind seemingly stops for Waymar (He’s in a crater) ….”Winter is coming.
  17. I walked many blocks yesterday to one of the few liquor stores in the general areas that carries the actual Jerez de Frontera vermouths, and for about $15 less than the Spanish wine store (which is closer). These vermouths are enormously superior to the usual vermouth one sees in the liquor stores. They refused to sell me the bottle because I didn't have a NY state photo i.d.
  18. You can still have tacos a pastor if one of the shipwrecked individuals was a shepherd on hols!
  19. Just got my first tattoo from the forum's own Lady Fury. A bit surprised it hurts more afterwards than when she was doing it.
  20. How can Biden refuse to accept that currently Israeli gummit is not to be equated with Hamas, and then on the other side of his mouth 'decry' Israel seizing the AP equipment that were videoing etc. what the IDF etc. are doing in Gaza from the border? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/21/world/middleeast/israel-ap-al-jazeera-cameras.html Shall we speak of censorship and free press and the only country holding the line for democracy in the Middle East? Again?
  21. Aren't you abou 0 for 12 so far with predictions?
  22. Uh oh you got the stink seal of approval. I’d be worried now.
  23. Warmer water means less dissolved oxygen for the fish to breathe. So 100% yes, significant warming can kill a lot of fish. Question is how much warmer are the waterways? A degree here or there possibly isn't enough of a change in temperature, 5-10 degrees might be enough of a change. Though you'd probably have to ask a limnologist what the precise tipping point would be.
  24. Ah, thanks for the info. I thought Netflix had just dropped it, like it is wont to do.
