Red Sox win the Yoan Moncada sweepstakes, shelling out $31.5 million (plus a 100% tax) for the Cuban super prospect.

Fuckers. I wanted Yanks to go old-school and get this guy at any cost but I guess not. It wouldn't cost against the cap and we need IF help so I don't know why Yanks wouldn't at least match the offer?

Yeah, I was surprised that it wasn't the Yanks or the Dodgers. Reports are the Yankees offered $27 million, and the Dodgers offered $35 million, but only if Moncada would wait to sign until after July 2nd.

Hunter Pence out up to two months with a broken arm

Rough start for the champs. Just like every other time they win it all. Damn it, they already won the 2016 Series, didn't they?!

Yes, 2016 is going to be a real doozy, featuring someone's incredibly unlikely comeback. I'm betting on 8 scoreless innings in the finale from Jonathan Sanchez or someone like that.

This is how the bak'tun always starts, yes.

2015 is but a big spring training extended all year long, to get ready for 2016. Get all the appeasement and sacrifices to the Injury God out of the way now, and clean the goat's blood off of the altar to the Dread Lord Barry in preparation.

Pence can still lead the "Yes!" Movement in the clubhouse with one arm if necessary.

The Milwaukee Brewers introduce the most life threatening ballpark food EVAR...

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12554423/milwaukee-brewers-offering-deep-fried-nachos-stick-ballpark

From the article: They feature a stick of beef, loaded with refried beans, rolled in Doritos, and then deep fried and drizzled with sour cream and cheese.

"We've sold nachos before, but some people don't want to get messy," said Jamie Hodgson, general manager of Miller Park hospitality for concessionaire Delaware North. "I think this is going to be a big seller because you can eat this in one hand and have a beer in the other."

Two other items will get the attention of Brewers fans. One is the Down Wisconsin Avenue Brat. It's an 18-inch brat covered with gravy, French fries, cheese curds, cheese sauce, fried sauerkraut and jalapeños, then topped with sour cream and chives. The behemoth will cost $20.

"The smart fan knows that you pay for something like this by just splitting it, but we know there are going to be people that save it all for themselves," Hodgson said.

The third star of the Miller Park menu this season is the Miller Park Bratchos, a take on the meat-based nachos that were popularized recently by the Green Bay Packers.

This version has four sausages -- chorizo, Italian, Polish and bratwurst -- cut up and served on top of kettle chips, sour cream, fried jalapeños and sauerkraut.

It would be most pleasing to beat Lester in Chicago's opener and much crushing of spirits.

Some of my biggest St. Louis questions for this year:

-Can Hayward take the next step and fulfill some of that crazy potential

-Can Carlos Martinez take the next step and fulfill some of that crazy potential

-Can Wacha bounce back from missing most of last year?

-Is Jaime Garcia back or done?

-Was Kolten Wong's late surge a fluke or is he going to be an elite 2nd baseman?

-Is the real Matt Carpenter the great leadoff man of two years ago or the OK one from last year?

Poor Braves.

Meh, at least they got rid of Melvin's contract, even if it likely meant coming up short on what they could've gotten for Kimbrel at the deadline. They're going to be horrifyingly bad this year anyway, so it's not like the trade makes them that much worse.

This offseason has made me less excited about baseball than I can ever remember. I certainly hope this epic tank job works out the way the Braves front office intends.

I'm not sure there's much spirit to crush. Most fans expect the team to be over .500 but not much better than that. This year at least.

I don't know about that. Apparently there is more money on the Cubs to win it all than any other MLB team, at least at the 2 largest Vegas sportsbooks.

Braves shed deadweight albatross contract of the Lesser Upton. Good for them, super duper bad for the Padres. Petco is an even less-hitter-friendly park than Turner Field. They're basically paying $20+million per year for Kimbrel and the equivalent of an actual albatross batting eighth in their lineup. That doesn't quite seem worthwhile.

ETA: I have been out of the loop for awhile, I just saw that Ervin Santana has been suspended for 80 games for PED use. I was against the ludicrously over-moneyed contract in the first place, I am strangely conflictingly pleased that at least half a year of that pay is off of the Twins' books. That said, his suspension leaves Minnesota even shorter on starting arms, making me cower under the sofa and wish for death. Another year of relegation ball...

Still.

Basebaaaaaallllll!!!!!

Wow, I bet those casinos are happy. I'd be ecstatic if the Cubbies pulled it off this season, but I'm not expecting more than 90 wins at best.

Cubs on track to lose 162 games this season? :P

I have no high hopes for the Giants this year. Starting with a 6-man rotation because Peavy has inexplicable Dead Arm Syndrome? :| Here's to a high draft pick.

ETA: And Brian Sabean is no longer GM and I think literally no one has noticed this nor does it really matter because title inflation. But he's been GM for well over half my life. I don't even know how to spell Bobby Evans or how to love/hate him. But welcome to the actual "everyone is a 'new' GM" NL West, I guess.
