Football: Insert Ted Lasso joke here

Bournemouth shouldn't have fired Parker for two reasons - first, harsh to do that after probably his three toughest games of the season all in a row, instead of seeing how they can play with closer-to-equal challenges, and second, any manager worth their salt will be waiting for Lampard and Gerrard to get fired, see if they can take over there.

Agreed.  If they thought he was the right manager for this season, then a small sample size of the most difficult games wouldn’t change that view.  At least give him a chance to learn and adapt.  The season is long, and those were unlikely to be competitive fixtures anyway.  They even got a win against Villa.

I wonder if there was a falling out over lack of transfers.  Parker has (rightly) sounded pessimistic about the squad.

Reading their statement it sounded like Parker wasn't 'aligned' with their approach. I take that to mean he was complaining about the squad and they said he should make do with what he has and not lose 9-0.

Parker has a right to complain about the squad. Bournemouth's bosses have not invested adequately in the squad which has left Bournemouth with the weakest squad in the league. Any manager is on a hiding to nothing there and will face an uphill battle not to finish dead last let alone avoid relegation.

Wrong position. Tielemans is yet another 8. He isn’t exactly known for his defensive work rate.

Arsenal should see if they can get Ibrahim Sangare from PSV. Moises Caicedo would be another good option but Brighton would demand an insane fee which Arsenal are not likely to pay.

Speaking of Caicedo: yet another Woodward and Judge masterclass. The guy was desperate to join United and available for less than £5m from Independiente but the chuckle brothers said nah.

At this point, we need numbers in central midfield. And whatever role Arteta had planned for Elneny, pretty sure it can be covered by Youri. And probably at a higher level.

As for Partey, well, he's probably going to be unavailable this season, either through injury or conviction for sexual assault.

Signing a replacement for him is a different conversation altogether.

Sangare was one of my favorite options earlier in the summer, but he signed a new contract with PSV a few weeks ago.

That's one of the obstacles right now - a lot of the good players who seemed available and could have fit that role have either already moved or resigned with their current teams (or been told they can't move this summer).

Depth at 6 was a weak spot even before the issues of the last few days and should have been addressed a lot earlier.

Ah, so he has found a new club.

Dortmund kinda froze him out. It was known for over a year, Akanji would not renew his contract. Last year he was linked to Inter and Man Utd. No offers arrived however. Dortmund added to their defense with Süle and N. Schlotterbeck (still kinda insane no other clubs higher up the foodchain were after him) arriving. This year with the fucking Qatar WC in the calendar the pre-season was pretty short. So they played the guys, they knew would be there all season. But the Dortmund officials were pretty eager to stress, he had done nothing wrong, he is just a victim of circumstance.

Also United finally got the Antony over the line. I am not gonna say United got rinsed there, I'll leave that honour to Consi. :D

Odoi to Leverkusen on loan done deal.

Gladbach's (former) DoF is supposed to take over at Leipzig after his burn out leave last year. He is still under contract at Gladbach, and they have turned down Redbull's first offer for him.

Zirkzee signed for Bologna. Bayern kept a buy-back clause.

van den Berg is reportedly the primary target to replace Thiaw (to Milan) at Schalke. Season long loan for Liverpool's young defender. He should be able to get regular first team football there.

Ocampos to Ajax to replace the outgoing Antony.

Kurzawa to Fulham apparently.

Peter Lim's asset stripping of Valencia continues. Carlos Soler heading to PSG for a reported €18m + €3m in add-ons.

Owners like this are frankly engaging in crimes against the local community.
