Football: The long goodbye. tic-toc goes the Klopp.

It'll be interesting to see how this Chelsea team develops. There's been high personnel turnover in a short space of time so the cohesion is lacking. On paper, they have a good squad (certainly good enough to be competing for top 4). Their underlying stats (xG and 'big chances created' are useful metrics over a large enough sample size) aren't looking too bad. Think Chelsea's (and Newcastle's) situation currently looks to be more optimistic than United's.

If any of the 'big six' clubs are in danger of becoming mired in midtable mediocrity, it's United. We'll have to wait and see whether the new management can turn things around but right now there's more uncertainty around United than Chelsea - our underlying numbers are worse and the squad needs a lot more revamping than Chelsea's in addition to a decade plus of mismanagement which has come home to roost in the form of FFP compliance.

Well, yeah, they got battered yesterday but I don’t think getting outplayed at Anfield is going to determine whether they’re mired in mid table mediocrity or not.

No, but the problem is a lot of their performances are like that. Yeah, their run coming into this game looked quite good on paper, but in reality their three Prem wins in a row were against Sheffield United and Luton, both of whom they should be beating, and a Palace team at the time on their own dreadful run of form. And their cup wins were over Preston and Brighton. They still fairly consistently look like they've never met each other.

Kalvin Phillips actually playing football. Not a great start though.

ETA: Really not a great start. All he’s done so far is give the ball away. Maybe Pep was right.

Crazy game. Relieved we got the win but disappointed at just how bad we are at exerting any control whatsoever on a game. Mainoo was great again - the only bright spot in what has been a pretty dismal season.

Eta. Wolves' penalty was a complete joke though. Embarrassing that the VAR could look at that (and for a long time too) and not overturn the call.

I'm not that mad about the penalty taken on its own but it's way less of a penalty than either of the two Chelsea didn't get yesterday.

Anyway Mainoo fucking rocks. Also Martinez being back was a huge difference. And the Shaw/Rashford/Hojlund linkup is really starting to click.

Calling a rapist a rapist: La Liga springs into action!

That's pretty pathetic from La Liga and the RFEF. Vinícius Jr. is racially abused in almost every game and they just brush it off as him asking for it or it's part of the game and he should get over it.

So Laporta is busy making an ass out of himself again with Super League talk, claiming he had like 16 interested clubs, who have in general agreed to join. Named a few, only for Marseille, Ajax, Feyenoord and Roma to go out of their way to shut his nonsense down immediately and exlaiming that they are very much not interested.
