  1. Past hour
  2. I don't disagree with that, although I think that people who want to harm others need not settle upon science as an excuse--there are a world of other reasons. People have said that gays were corrupting morality, or that Jews were secretly controlling everybody's money, neither of which are scientific observations. In short, if one wants to be a terrible person, one excuse will do as well as any other. I appreciate your reply. I think I understand your thinking better than I did previously.
  3. I can argue with it it should be Ollie Watkins
  4. What about their lack of understanding nuance, looking deeper into the text, understanding backstories and current story events don't you like? They wrap it all up in declarative sentences and bad fan fiction, and never, never, miss a chance to invade threads that might have a mention of the Starks or Jon Snow. When not doing that, they have moved on to creating hate threads, like this one. This is a fan site, but fans of the Starks are now blocked by trolls from being able to discuss and enjoy the forum when discussing the Starks. Pathetic.
  5. Don't give him ideas, his spirit is probably roaming with dragon spirits, lol Or mayhaps he is busy with all the beautiful women who have ever died.
  6. His numbers this year weren't terrible, he's just never been a flashy player. He's an above average 3 point shooter and (for most of his career at least) an above average and versatile defender. The kind of guy who can fill up minutes and let your star players do their thing without making your team worse. It is quite possible he's no longer able to keep up defensively (he is almost 32). I haven't watched much of Philly's games this year to say. He gets a lot of hate/scapegoating just because of his contract. The Nuggets looked a LOT more beatable against LAL than they did last year. The big question is whether the competition is going to get better or if the Lakers are basically on par with anyone else in the West. Their depth, while still better than the Lakers, was indeed a problem. I don't imagine they'll be able to survive such a short rotation against Minnesota.
  7. Care to explain why you think that? Especially regarding the bolded part.
  8. Maybe you don't, but I do think that some people do. More importantly, I think that there are people who are weaponizing science in order to dehumanize trans people and justify not being decent people. I cannot. I enjoy evolutionary zoology as a long-time childhood interest, but I'm not a scientist. It's just something that I would potentially be curious about and consider when looking at human evolution because sometimes certain genes can get selected, altered, or magnified through these sort of odd cases. I'm not well-versed in human genetics or its intersection with the complexities of biological sex to cite a case. It's possible that a geneticist could tell you where and how these sort of unconventional cases could trigger changes in human traits. But sometimes scientists be like, "somehow Palpatine has returned" and humans have somehow gained this trait somewhen.
  9. I don't care what experience you think you might have at 18, 'cos you sure as shit ain't getting my vote. What I would say to any 18 year old running for elected office. "Get over yourself. FFS." Then I would flush his/her head down the bog for being a sweaty try hard prefect type.
  10. So you were academically well informed but had no relevsnt life experience of note? No 18 year old has the life experience to be in a job even with that level of responsibility. The fact there are lots of grown ups who would also be inept is irrelevant.
  11. No, it is not Is it an heirloom, important family object, or anything associated with a particular house
  12. Nuggets-Wolves is the second round series I'm most excited about (regardless of who advances in the remaining matchups). Are the Wolves real contenders? They certainly looked it against Phoenix, but the Nuggets are a much sterner test. The Nuggets have a way of stretching even strong defenses to a breaking point, we'll just have to see if the Wolves can keep up. Should be fun.
  13. Its not that. I'm sure he was pretty good at that point, and it wasn't an unreasonable contract at that point for the reasons you mentioned, but the issue is his decline. I don't know if this game was representative of his season, but he was awful. He was avoiding the ball, slow to rebounds, and wasn't defending particularly well. He just existed. That's it. The cardio comment was really apt. _ That one game the Lakers won, they played much harder. AD really battled for those rebounds. Pity they couldn't do that earlier or keep that up. Nuggets depth isn't looking great at the moment though, it was enough against the Lakers, but Malone cut it to practically a 6 man rotation with MPJ and Gordon logging 46 minutes that last game. Maybe its just a match up issue, but they'll need a better showing against the Wolves. They do still have home court which should help.
  14. At 18 (1997) I'd been studying Russia and American politics and Anglo-Irish history for two years solid, so in those areas I was probably better-informed and up to date then 90% of the population. That was also probably when my absolute mastery of Middle-earth lore was its peak. Outside of those areas it'd have been more of a mixed bag. That said, I once had a long conversation with a family member (then in his fifties) explaining with references how the value of the house he bought in 1975 had quintupled outside of interest, which is why I couldn't afford to buy a similar house at the same time he did, and he didn't get it (or rather he refused to get it, because it destroyed his argument about "feckless youth"). There are a lot of 18-year-old fucking idiots around, but a lot of 18-year-olds who are reasonably well-educated and capable, and a lot of 38 or 58-year-olds around who you wouldn't trust to open a can of beans which was already open without fatally injuring themselves.
  15. Ah, okay. Is it any heirloom, important family object, or at least associated with a particular house?
  16. Good thing the dragons died out before his time
  17. The prophecy thing was something that was almost evident even before the tv series, Maester Aemon, Rhaegar and Jaeherys II did actions related to the prophecy
  18. That I'm intending to try during scorching summer heat.
  19. Targ and Stark haters are very cute, they try to rehabilitate Boltons, the Others and Walder Frey. It's clear that the Others and the Boltons are pure evil
  20. Indeed, this guy... He claimed to have slept with at least nine hundred women. And that he can't remember the exact number. That's... quite a record, even in the world of ASoIaF. (I'm sure you already know this, of course, but I can't help expressing my amazement)
  21. 5. Bit of a grey area that. I'm gonna tentatively say 'No, it's not a personal possession'.
  22. You need to get out of your ivory tower and meet the (checks Rolodex) Jeremy Clarksons of the world... I admit, I was being tongue in cheek with that one. We here in Sweden appreciate and hail our fellow reasonably-well-functioning socialized medicine brethren.
