Mexal
In other news, this might actually be a legitimate scandal. DOJ spokesperson said they consulted the IG about the release of the FBI text messages. The IG says they didn't.
The Anti-Targ
1 hour ago, Inigima said: I know that those of us who follow politics know this, but I really don't think people realize that the estate tax does not touch estates under $5 million. It's because of Americans' excessive optimism. Only 0.2% of families are actually affected by this tax, but 20 or 30% of people expect that they will reach that level of wealth in their lifetime, or their kids will get there. So their opinion on the estate tax is based on unreasonably optimistic future expectations. But because they have this really optimistic view about their future wealth, their opposition to the estate tax is actually pretty rational, albeit in a rather selfish way. Yes, because of that sense of entitlement, voter fraud must of happened, he couldn't have lost on his own, uh, merits. The dumbfux of Alabama and online dumbfux will be happy to throw him cash. Guess he learned a lot from watching Sarah Palin rake in the cash after losing the '08 election.

I've heard this, especially because of the famous Steinbeck quote, but I think the truth here is simpler. They just do not know what the estate tax covers. Fragile Bird
So...the passage of the tax bill was just steaming along right on schedule, all those duckies lined up in a row, when somebody finally really read it and noticed the math was off by a trillion dollars. How quickly can the Republicans cut Medicare so they eliminate that wee little problem? Billionaires need their tax cuts!

LongRider
Wut!? Quote The new provision was not in the bill passed by the House or the Senate. Instead, it was inserted into the final bill during reconciliation negotiations between Republicans from both chambers. The provision, said experts, would offer a special tax cut to LLCs with few employees and large amounts of depreciable property assets, namely buildings: rent generating apartment and office buildings. “This helps people who have held property for awhile, like Donald Trump,” David Kamin, an New York University law professor who served as a special assistant to the president for economic policy in the Obama administration, told IBT. “If you’ve got an LLC that’s a trade or business with a bunch of real estate holdings and few employees, think you’re now golden. You get the deduction.” ~~~snip~~~ IBT previously reported that 13 GOP lawmakers directly sculpting the bill —including U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan — have between $36 million and $163 million worth of ownership stakes in real estate-related LLCs. Those entities generated between $2.6 million and $16 million in “pass through” income and could benefit from the new provision. Sen. Bob Corker, who was considered a potential “no” vote on the bill, abruptly switched his position upon the release of the final legislation. Federal records reviewed by IBT show that Corker has millions of dollars of ownership stakes in real-estate related LLCs that could also benefit. Go ahead and vote them out, they'll have the softest of landings provided by the golden-est of parachutes. MAGA!
Zorral
https://www.trumpisnotabovethelaw.org/event/mueller-firing-rapid-response/search/ Quote NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW—MUELLER FIRING RAPID RESPONSE Donald Trump is publicly considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible illegal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, and the efforts to conceal those activities. This would be a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump. Our response in the minutes and hours following a power grab will dictate what happens next, and whether Congress—the only body with the constitutional power and obligation to rein Trump in from his rampage—will do anything to stand up to him. That's why we're preparing to hold emergency "Nobody is Above the Law" rallies around the country in the event they are needed. Use the map or search below by ZIP code to find an event near you, or create one if none exists. Rallies will begin hours after news breaks of a Mueller firing: If Mueller is fired BEFORE 2 P.M. local time —> events will begin @ 5 P.M. local time If Mueller is fired AFTER 2 P.M. local time —> events will begin @ noon local time the following day This is the general plan—please confirm details on your event page, as individual hosts may tailor their events to their local plan. This is our moment to stand up to protect our democracy. Let's mobilize to show that we won't let Donald Trump become the authoritarian that he aspires to be. The law applies to all of us, and it's essential that it also applies to the most powerful people in our country. Use the search tool to find an event near you, or create one if none exists. If you choose to attend an event, you agree to engage in nonviolent, peaceful action, to act lawfully, and to strive to de-escalate any potential confrontations with those who may disagree with our values.
