Watching Chiefs at Denver yesterday in the snow, my favorite part is that there was an entire section of the stands that was populated with cardboard cutouts of villagers from South Park wearing masks.

I think they’ve been doing that for a while now. Gotta love how they’ve embraced the show’s love of them.

By the way, your team is weird!

Happy with yesterday even if we almost blew another big lead. That's an unsettling trend I've noticed this year. Have now allowed Texans, Eagles, Broncos and Titans to make it closer than it should have been. Gonna bite us in the ass sooner or later. At least we know Lamar can't come back when down a couple touchdowns :P

Hope D. Johnson is alright.  When healthy, we have an embarrassment of riches at WR.

Onward!

Bears were outplayed all night long but even so they had two trips into the red zone for zero points.  Converting those into TDs would’ve tied the game.  Undeservedly, but nonetheless.

The pass protection is poor, and Foles is bad any time he’s forced out of the pocket.  He missed some deep shots that would have been TDs.  The receivers and tight ends are decent.  The running game looks a bit stale behind that OL and without a good alternate since Cohen’s injury.  Patterson doesn’t do enough as a RB.

Fire your awful HC.

The offense was fine until the bubonic plague of injuries took hold. The defense however was shit from game one. The HC deserves his time, but only if he is willing to see issues and make adjustments.

He's not a good coach. He had Rodgers for his entire prime, plus a still really good Favre and only made it to one Owl.

It's so 2020 that the Browns seem like the only team* that made a competent coaching hire.

*Okay, probably the Panthers too.

It's too early to say, but MM still calls plays that require his receivers to win their individual battles rather than ones that creates space for them. A coach that doesn't adapt and learn is one I'd want nothing to do with.

And that's kind of funny because McCarthy had a big PR fluff campaign talking about how he'd spent his time away from coaching learning and evolving with the modern game.

I fell for it. I was wrong.

Marino only went to one.  Steve Young only went to one (as a starter). Dan Fouts never went... Does that mean their coaches were bad too? Yes Shula went to two earlier but had Marino and never did anything with him but put up stats.

Too much blame on Martz and his offense. His defensive coach hiring though, abysmal. He should be fired if he doesn't recognize and address that.

Being a strong, successful team that can get to or win multiple Owls requires a good front office, good coaching, good offense and good defense.  And one of those two latter elements probably needs to be more than just good.  (Or rampant, systemic and extended cheating that is swept under the rug by the commissioner's office.)

Shula's Marino years featured a poor front office that couldn't put together a good defense, and although the Fins got close a couple of times, they couldn't get back to the big one.

Steve Young played during the height of the NFC's dominance, when any one of five or six teams could win the Super Bowl every year.

Dan Fouts played for the Chargers.

Mike McCarthy, on paper, should be a terrific coach.  He is from Western Pennsylvania, cradle of quarterbacks and coaches.  He apprenticed under Marty Schottenheimer. He coached two HoF quarterbacks in Green Bay.

But he is not a terrific coach.  He fell bass-ackward into a Super Bowl win when the Steelers shot themselves in the foot.  Otherwise he squandered OK-to-good drafting by the front office that developed some strong defenses and excellent offenses.  His bland and unexciting offenses were rescued from mediocrity by Favre and Rodgers, and players were never thrilled to play for him.

Adding a bland coach to the unerring clown show and ego brandishing competition that is the Dallas Cowboys was always destined to end in tears.

Young was blocked by the Dallas dynasty and then the ascending Bret Favre Packers. McCarthy was blocked by... the Eli Manning Giants.
