Deadlines? What Deadlines?
These guys must be defectors from other animation studios who banded together to start their own company or something. The portfolio of in-house projects on their website is remarkably thin. A few music videos, one other series and Arcane. That's it. Incredible. It's one of the things cited in the interview I shared as to why members of the studio think it worked so well -- that it's being run by artists who have done the work themselves (all the three founders have credits on Arcane as art directors or directors) and understand it, rather than management suits. 3 hours ago, Deadlines? They first worked in advertising, working for major corporate clients like Coca-Cola and Panasonic, then branched into music videos and so on. Hard to find a listing of commercial credits for anyone. But yeah, quite the story.
Corvinus85
Arcane won all 9 awards for which it was nominated at this year's Annie Awards. Well deserved. https://deadline.com/2022/03/2022-annie-awards-winners-list-movies-tv-video-games-1234974570/ Spoiler It was Arcane, in the end, that was mentioned most tonight, taking the big TV categories that also included Writing, Animated Effects, Character Animation, Character Design, Production Design, Storyboarding and Directing. Ran
On the heels of that, I saw that Riot made a big investment in Fortiche, though still a non-controlling stake. Two of their executives joined Fortiche's board. Very well-deserved.
Werthead
AMA with two of Arcane's writers and main creatives. Main takeaway is that Season 2 should hit in 2023 and will directly follow up S1, but in later seasons they want to explore more of the world (Runeterra) and go to other places. They want to earn that first, though. Corvinus85, Fez, dog-days and 2 others

There is still a lot left of the direct story to tell after the cliff hanger of S1, I assume full blown drawn out conflict between Piltover and Zaun is now on the cards with both sides having lost their leadership and a rapid escalation in the weaponisation of both Hextech and Shimmer. The natural way to bring in additional parties is via them initially trying to meddle in that conflict for their own ends and trying to get a hold of the new weapons, which was already setup/started in S1 with Mel's mother from Noxus. That being said, it's unlikely that this could have had the legs for many seasons despite it being based on a game, so I'm hoping that the writers have given it a good conclusion. It's just the end of this story. They said, we'd get stories from other League of Legends characters in the future. Corvinus85
Ran
Apparently GKIDS has scooped up global video rights and will be releasing Arcane in 4K blu-rays. While this almost certainly means upscaling will be used, it'll still be higher bitrate and with less compression than what Netflix puts out. Ran
Heimerdinger's antics here feels like such a break from the mood of the story they were telling by the latter half of Arcane. Or have I just forgotten the childish levity and remembered only the serious narrative bits? Edited July 21, 2024 by Ran
