James Arryn
Santos’ story makes everyone look bad. Not sure if that’s what’ll keep him around, but it might help. Particularly when, again, the party it makes look the worst is the one containing a big chunk of people who want representative government to look as inept as possible. It's simple why They will; there would have to be a new election and it's unlikely the replacement will vote with Their craziness. The winner might even be a Dem. DireWolfSpirit
Trump wants Santos to be the head of his family charity. He would seamlessly continue the tradition of stewardship and ethics we all expect from any Trump organization. Hes here to serve the greater good, just like Trump. The Anti-Targ
Boring procedural question: Can the House vote for anything (outside of its own operating rules?) that is not subject to a senate vote and presidential assent? Just thinking about the recent "defund the IRS" vote, which I believe seeks to reverse the 10-year IRS funding that I understand was part of the Inflation Reduction Act. The House can do all sorts of investigations (and "investigations") on its own. Also impeachments. Yeah, you need the senate to convict. But if, say, DHS Sec. Mayorkas gets impeached (articles have already been introduced) it's a big hassle/distraction until the senate acquits. And they can both file lawsuits and submit court briefs on their own. Last time Republicans had the House majority they made the House party to several Obamacare-related lawsuits. It’s all about partisanship now, no one gives a shit about real values. If Santos had pretended to be a Democrat the way he pretended to be a Republican, all the people pretending to attack “him” would be pretending to defend “him”, and all the people pretending to defend “him” would be invading the capital. He didn’t pretend to do anything wrong, people should pretend to leave him alone. Remember what they (allegedly) said about throwing imaginary bricks through fake glass houses. So their big defund the IRS show was just blowing smoke. I guess the problem with the House knowing they can't get any legislation through the senate and POTUS without bipartisan support means they have nothing meaningful to do until 2024 except investigations, impeachments, lawsuits and budget brinkmanship.
