Consigliere
I haven't seen anyone dismissing Arsenal. Just people saying that Man City are now the favourites. There's nothing controversial or disrespectful (to Arsenal) in saying that given that City has won two league titles in recent years by a single point margin. Their squad is much more experienced than Arsenal's at dealing with this kind of pressure and coming out on top.
polishgenius
So Barca and Madrid's relationship, never cordial at the best of times, has gone right down the shitter in recent days. Started when Madrid said they'd testify against Barca in the payments scandal, Barca responded by calling them 'the club of the regime', so Madrid, on their official twitter, released this, a four minute video about how actually, Franco favoured Barca:
A Horse Named Stranger
But unfortunately Franco actually was a Real fan. And the birth of the classico in June 1943 is pretty much a case close argument. Bought refs (pretty much every attack by Barca was supposed to be offside), and when they refused to get back on the pitch for the second half of the, guys in uniform literally convinced them at gun point to get back out or get arrested. Di Stefano first signed for Barca before the Franco regime intervened. That's where the Regime Club taunts come from. So yeah, Real was actually the Club of the Franco Regime, saying otherwise is rewriting history. Real might not be proud of it, but that's their actual history. A Horse Named Stranger
11 Freunde had nice article about the rivalry between Real and Barca a while back. The article is in German, I am not going to translate it. Those who can't speak German can use google translate or something.
polishgenius
Lampard has lined up against Madrid, in a game they need to score at least 2 goals in, with quite literally only one attacking player on the pitch - Kai Havertz. Five defenders and four defensive midfielders.

So yeah, Real was actually the Club of the Franco Regime, saying otherwise is rewriting history. Real might not be proud of it, but that's their actual history. Everything you have said is false, it is astonishing. Franco was fan of Atletico Aviacion (now Atletico de Madrid) as it was the team former soldiers used to follow or play in. What are you talking about? Literally all of that is false. Di Stefano's rights were held by two teams River Plate and Millonarios, Barca and Real bought the rights to the player from each team, hence the controversy. The FA decided that each team would get to play him per season till the contract ran out, Di Stefano started with Real, had a couple of shaky games and Barca sold its rights to Real. About the article... When they present purely hearsay rumors as facts... You know the article is rubbish. Even fucking Wikipedia explains the story of Di Stefano, it's really inexcusable keep clinging to 9/11 conspiracies. I'm not even going to talk about Barcelona's relationship with Franco. Point is, it is asinine, it was a fucking dictatorship, it's not like anyone could say no. It's pathetic and its just Laporta deflecting. On other side. Napoli had choked incredibly hard. It's astonishing, given its team will be torn apart by summer... you gotta seize this opportunities, a bracket like this one? This was their year but Milan will likely reach the final. And here's me thinking American moneymen were just what European football needed. Anyway, Barney Ronay skewers the twat brilliantly. Quote This wasn’t so much men against boys as a highly competent team against a hallucinogenic fever dream of how to do soccer, winched into place by a coterie of hyped up management consultants. Something a little grotesque has been created here, a real-time reminder of the things people want to do to this sport, of the distorting effects of money without sense or love or care. ... What happens to this club from here? There is no way of clawing back the stupid amounts of money spent. Income will now take a dive. What do you do to recoup those investment funds? Capsize the Premier League and start a money harvesting super league? Or cut your losses and move on to hydrogen batteries or olive oil or lithium mining? Right now this place is starting to resemble a footballing version of the Raft of the Medusa, a sinking vessel peopled by castaways, hanging on not out of love or duty but self preservation. Who is really looking out for this thing anyway, the delicate, patchwork entity that is Chelsea FC. The club’s third manager in the last eight months is basically a sole trader, expert, if nothing else in self-preservation. The players have their own brands and auras and future worth to protect.
