US Politics: Happy Anniversary.

What do you think of a proposal being floated of making Jan 6 a national holiday in honor of public servants?

Mostly things in The Hill are so slanted for Them, etc.  Though occasionally -- well, you all decide:

I personally would be okay with it. However, it would give the insurrectionists something to celebrate

It's not quite the same as Lincoln's or MLK's birthdays. It's their beerhall putsch turned lost cause.

“Unprofessional”: Experts blast Trump lawyer for saying Brett Kavanaugh “quid pro quo part out loud”
“Imagine for a second if a lawyer for Clinton, Obama or Biden said this. It’d be a massive scandal," attorney says

https://www.salon.com/2024/01/05/unprofessional-experts-blast-lawyer-for-saying-brett-kavanaugh-quid-pro-quo-part-out-loud/

Quote

"She's saying the quiet part out loud," replied panelist Jon Avlon. "She's saying that Brett Kavanaugh will step up and side with the president because he appointed him. That goes against every basic idea of law and independence of the judiciary.

*Sigh*

If only Michelle Obama hated herself enough to become president, and could convince President Biden to step aside.

None of this 50/50 scary Biden or Trump shit.

Pretty sure it would be a curb stomping of epic proportions.

Shes completely unqualified, more stupid doesn't solve the problems you have.

Damn man. Was former President Trump qualified?

But she would probably beat Trump because of feelings and nostalgia.

And I'm pretty sure you know one unqualified is a far better unqualified than the other.

But it doesn't matter. We're facing a scary vote between Former President Trump and President Biden.

Michelle Obama is absolutely qualified to be President, IMO. Whether a black woman can win is another issue, but she’s undoubtedly the one black woman who could, apart from maybe Oprah Winfrey.

Of course if she won there would be a violent reaction, but there will be anyway, no matter what happens. The only question is the scale.

I believe this would be the time.

All of her husband's voters, all of President Biden's voter's.

Edit: But she doesn't seem interested. So it doesn't matter.

How? She has never held any job of consequence remotely like the presidency.

Whether she's more qualified than other idiots doesn't make her qualified.

And I say this as an enormous fan of her character and competence.

No. That was my point. Let's stop giving jobs to personalities.

Would she better, absolutely. Is she the right choice, absolutely not. It's the most important job in the world.

She's more than qualified to hold a high office, but jumping right to the presidency might be a stretch. It doesn't matter though because she doesn't want it. She never really even wanted to be First Lady IIRC.

Dude Bro.

We are currently facing a 50/50 thing between Biden and Trump.

I'd absolutely rather have her as the nominee. Even if she only won because of her personalty, considering the alternative.

You even said she would be more qualified than Trump.

But it doesn't matter. It's just a fantasy anyways.

Barack faced the same criticism and that worked out OK. Besides, there really isn’t a job remotely like the Presidency, except maybe VP? And it’s important to democracy that voters be able to select someone they consider suitable even if they don’t have relevant experience. That’s one of the key differences between elected and appointed posts.

Michelle Obama is more than just Barack’s wife: she’s a respected lawyer with a long career of public service, experience of campaigning, knowledge of government and the respect of millions. If she were interested , she’d be a good candidate. Heck, if she’d been interested, Biden might even have stood aside last time out. But she’s not, of course, so the point is moot. Just wanted to make the point that her qualifications are not the issue.

Apparently, the Secretary of Defense was hospitalized for three days without notifying either the White House or Congress:

Quote

President Joe Biden was not aware for days that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan ultimately informed Biden late Thursday afternoon, soon after Sullivan himself learned that Austin had been hospitalized, that source said. Austin was admitted to the hospital on New Year’s Day due to complications from an elective surgery.

The Pentagon announced the hospitalization Friday. Austin issued his first statement Saturday, five days after being admitted to the hospital, saying he could have done a “better job” of notifying the public.

I can understand not telling the media, but it's very strange the Pentagon chose not to notify the White House.

An ignorant, nay, even stupid, observation. She's always been so smart she didn't want politics in their lives, but she did it because she was smart.  She's so smart she sure as hell wouldn't even consider doing this.  She's stated so, on the record, many times.

She's infinitely more qualified than most people due to her profession, experiences and everything else.  Anyone who would say this about her knows nothing about her or this country or these politics.

Trump and his MAGA allies turn their fire on Haley
The Trump campaign and its allied super PAC are spending a combined $4.5 million on anti-Nikki Haley ads.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/06/trump-ads-nikki-haley-00134175

Donald Trump’s political operation is seeking to bury Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign just days before voting starts.

The former president’s campaign is spending millions of dollars on TV ads attacking Haley for the first time. His allies and social media influencers are ramping up efforts to savage her. And at his rally in Iowa on Friday night, Trump lit into her more sharply than at any prior point in the primary.

It’s a major shift in focus nine days before the Iowa caucus.

After spending the last year focusing almost exclusively on tearing down Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Trump apparatus has determined that Haley now requires a greater share of its resources than he does. Trump allies increasingly view the former South Carolina governor — and Trump’s onetime U.N. ambassador — as the last obstacle on his path to the nomination.

The Feds did a great job setting it up, and the Capitol police definitely served the establishment by letting peaceful people into the Capitol proper.  But really the media are more deserving.  OTOH, they are government employees de facto these days if that qualifies for public servants.

I would like to know more about her qualifications.  She was some type of hospital administrator in Chicago, and has earned mid 8 figures on book deals, and by some reports multiple more from Netflix.

What are her qualifications to be President of the US though?  Was she an exemplary hospital manager?  Has she written anything thats sold enough to justify 30 million dollars or so in earnings?  What are her specific skills as a producer that translate to the Presidency?

Oh for crying out loud, just read the Wikipedia article about her.

Didn't you vote for a reality TV star whose greatest accomplishment since getting born into obscene wealth was some viral tweets?
