Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
3CityApache replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
Yeah, maybe it's just because it never really worked for me. With 22 minutes for 5k I was never able to break 48 minutes for 10k and 1:50 in half-marathon. So in my case it was more than 12 seconds per km when doubling the distance. -

Same is happening in Michigan, Bally's covers the Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons and it's struggling to stay on, app is apparently horrible also. -

Out of curiosity [and a little more] because there must be more than a few, how many artists on the board? Put your hands up. [raises hand] -

Doctor Who: 60 Years of Mayhem (SPOILERS for latest episode)

Enjoyed this episode, nicely paced less fluffy/stupid than Space Babies a better thought out than Devil's Chord. I also think it was an excellent showcase for Ncuti and why he deserves the role as the Doctor -
Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
Impmk2 replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
Never really raced 5kms, more focused on longer distances, but strava puts my best 5km at 19:23 which sounds about right. Got pretty comfortable running in the low 4s/km when I was really putting in long training weeks, and could push much harder during intervals. 5km is a really hard distance. Short enough that you have to go really hard from the start, but long enough to start to really suffer. Always felt very sick after a hard 5km effort, would rather run 20-30km any day. Wouldn't be anywhere near that fitness now, haven't run seriously in years. @baxus @3CityApache I went with adding about 12sec/km when you double the distance which always held pretty true for my running (at least up to the 30km wall). So in 1:38 half form I'd be around 21:30 for 5km (4:18 kms), so 22mins sounds close enough to me. -

Different thread subject, but isn't this what has some in MLB really spooked? The NFL will be fine and the NBA should be too, but some these regional networks crashing could possible hurt MLB (and some other minor sports, pro and college). -
Who is the most dangerous character in A Song of Ice and Fire?
Ring3r replied to Ring3r's topic in General (ASoIaF)
No.....but not because he's not important. I was trying to draw a distinction between the concepts of dangerous, powerful....and I didn't say it, but I'd add "influential" to the list of things. I think it'd be hard to argue that, in the last 100 years, Blood Raven has been the most influential person....and probably the most influential person in the last 4000+ years. I was trying to suss-out.....hmmm...how to put it. Out of every character, who would be the most dangerous if their specific mission was to kill you. Back when Bloodraven was not part of a tree...he'd have been my first pick. He killed the entire male family line of the Blackfyres himself...but he's in a tree now. That's why I picked who I did. If Jaqen's specific mission was to kill you....well....he's killed a bunch of people, including a King....and nobody other than the reader even knows it was him. You can run away from Cersie, Dany, Jon Snow....all of them. But if Jaqen wants you dead...and you don't know about it....well...you're dead. -

Who is the most dangerous character in A Song of Ice and Fire?
Ring3r replied to Ring3r's topic in General (ASoIaF)
He's definitely in the running....though, unless he's secretly a faceless man, he's more of an enabler. Not a bad pick though. -

A lot of news out of there today, just within the CNN round-up of it today. Including another report from another physician in Gaza that starkly states that he's never in his entire life of working in war zones seen medical and aid personnel deliberately targeted and killed like he has from the Israelis. https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-05-18-24/index.html Also we got a grief-n phone call from a friend in Israel this afternoon, along with a video from the demo, from which she had just returned. We hadn't heard from her in a while -- she's been too depressed. FTFY -
Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
Tywin et al. replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
In HS I put up some numbers that a lot of pro athletes would die for. Problem is I'm somewhere between 5'7 and 5'8 and at the time struggled to gain weight despite being able to lift 500 pounds up on the squat rack. In retrospect I picked the wrong sports to focus on (American football and basketball). Probably would have had a much better chance being a D1 athlete if I focused on soccer, baseball, golf or track and field. But such is life. God would I have been miserable if all I did in the fall and spring was track. Yuck. -

Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
Iskaral Pust replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
When I used treadmill runs for additional training between soccer games, I would run 3 miles in 21-22 minutes (~4.8km). But treadmill times don’t match outdoor times. That wasn’t a racing pace: I’d start at 7mph to warm up and then progressively increase until a “sprint” finish at 10mph. -
International Events: Whatever It Is, Everywhere
Altherion replied to Zorral's topic in General Chatter
No, because I very much doubt any meaningful number of Israelis buys into such Hamas propaganda. I do think that a substantial fraction (probably even a majority) is not averse to the people of Gaza suffering some privation as part of the war. -

Just mowing down bug aliens without giving a shit about objectives is fun in this game. The highest difficulty levels can be insanely crazy especially against the automaton enemies.

Of course there are and prisons have all kinds of unique currencies. And you'd be surprised where you can hide it. Butch's great-grand daddy's watch survived for seven years up a pair of assholes. Probably the equivalent of spending 70 years up a German horse's ass. Another object that can shockingly be hid in the backdoor. The Jackass guys got a toy car up there. I've heard stories of burners getting in that way as well. When you're desperate... or as Jace calls it, Tuesdays.

We do have Sheepstealer's endgame in FaB. He and Nettles are last seen together up in the mountains. FaB 2 might include about a dragon carcass in the mountains reaching court before 153 AC or else 'the last dragon' wouldn't be the last ... but not much else. Morning's fate is unclear, but she - and perhaps Rhaena, too - might die in the fight against Aemond's son around 150 AC. The Cannibal is still out there to be claimed, but according to Alys in FaB her son already has a dragon during the Regency ... and that is by no means unlikely as Vhagar as a she-dragon and could have produced one or multiple eggs for Aemond's son while she was out in the wild with Alys and Aemond. In fact, a big reason why Aemond's son might be allowed to live to adult age could be the fact that he has a dragon at Harrenhal and that Aegon III is pissing his pants in fear and terror at the thought to lead an army against a dragon. So no need for the lad to claim the Cannibal, not to mention that it would be very hard for him to do that as the road to Dragonstone should not exactly be open to a bastard pretender. That said ... the Cannibal can still be claimed either by Viserys or, more likely, by Baela. Sheepstealer could easily enough die throughout the war so that Rhaena eventually gets Morning like in the book. A plausible scenario could be Daemon and Rhaena are hunting Aemond together ... and he lures Rhaena into a trap, kills Sheepstealer and Rhaena seemingly as well (who could fall into the Trident, say, to be saved further downstream and eventually finding her way back to the Vale or KL), causing Daemon to face Aemond alone at Harrenhal.

Funny. My friends in West Kentucky were just bitching this morning in our group chat about how they can’t see the Cardinals play because Bally Sports all has it blacked out all the time. -
Looks like great fun, that one. Love the over-the-topness of it.

Football: The ever-reliable Tottenham Hotspur
Consigliere replied to polishgenius's topic in Entertainment
It was a nail biter at the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga as well. Union Berlin narrowly avoided a relegation playoff. Missed two penalties in the game, the second of which in the 92nd minute but scored off the rebound to win 2-1 and finish ahead of Bochum on goal difference. Also, Bo Henriksen has done a great job at Mainz. They looked to be dead and buried when he came in with 13 games left to play but he got them ticking again and they only lost two games since his appointment to Leverkusen and Bayern. -
Exercise & Fitness: it’s a marathon, not a sprint
3CityApache replied to Iskaral Pust's topic in General Chatter
Both 8k in 30 minutes and 2,4k in 8 minutes is mindblowingly fast for non professional athlete, it means maintaining the pace well below 4 minutes per km, and in the latter case closer to 3:30 per km. Such a pace could win smaller races for 5 or 10k. My PB for 1 km is 3:32 and I would never make 2 km in the same pace, not to mention longer distances. @baxus With 1:38 half-marathon PB I think you should make much faster 5k than 22 minutes. My best half-marathon was around 1:50, and that was in my peak. OTOH I only ran couple of half-marathons in my life and always preferred shorter distances, mainly 10k or 5k. The longer distance I chose to run, the lamer my PB became. -
I'm enjoying Helldivers 2 despite the fact that I'm usually not much of an MP player. Reminds me a bit if Mass Effect 3 multiplayer which I enjoyed too.
